Of all the offensive things about this whole circus, the contrived non-sensical scenarios in these comics ranks in the top 3 for me.

I get that she is LARPing as some sort of transgendered Bill Watterson but Calvin and Hobbes had actual grounded situations that a precocious child could reasonably find him/herself in which acted as a springboard into the more dense philosophical material.

And there were plenty of straightforward strips where the twist was just the sudden transition from Calvin's imagination into the real world that established his character that you understood that he was a little neurotic and had some deep anxieties about the world so the philosophical strips weren't jarring; they were a natural progression of a line of thought.

Also Calvin wasn't perfect and his rich imagination would lead him into trouble sometimes. You know, like a flaw.

I don't know what's supposed to be compelling about a 20-something XY chrome transparently setting up these situations so he can lecture a dopey strawman a-la edgy junior college kid who is halfway into Gender Studies 101. Except these are supposedly... children? Why do they talk like this?

Like a 5th grader just randomly shouts at another kid about genders? Cool dunk there, he doesn't know shit about biology. Very poignant. I'm sure he walked away from that encounter thoroughly schooled.

Same with the guy in a car yelling at someone on a sidewalk about whether they're a boy or a girl. That's a classic situation I'm sure all of us can relate to.

Waiting until the next news cycle and then carrying on as if nothing happened is generally a good way to deal with a scandal. Every time you comment, including apologies, just drags things out for longer and exposes the info to any followers who may not have heard it otherwise. There will always be a handful of people who won't drop it but most people on the internet have short memories. Unfortunately for Bill, it doesn't work immediately after you admitted everything.

A better way to play it would have been to keep quiet, restrict comments, and pop back up in a couple of weeks to a month when most people have moved on. Maybe drop the "I won't be shamed" comment when memories are fuzzy.

Just about everything on Patreon got leaked in late 2015, their entire database. (No credit card numbers or anything like that though)
