Is “strata” just Canadian for condo complex or is there some additional layer of meaning implied that I have been missing this whole time? I think Strata sounds like some kind of Shared Ownership scheme, or one where even if owning a home in the complex, you have to abide my a certain set of rules with regards to appearance etc, like those Homeowners Associations that they have in the USA?

Strata is just a term used for a multi-level or side by side condo complex where everyone owns their unit. Canada doesn't have HOAs but they have the lite version, they set some baseline rules, and charge a monthly fee for building maintenance, unit repairs and building insurance. The most they can do (in Yanivs and LRs case) is have a bit of control over how you alter the outside facing part of your unit, like no flags in the windows or no BBQs (if you live in a high rise).

There are co-op ownership buildings that are more run more like the US HOAs but it involves more of the tenants taking a role in cleaning and lawn maintenance from what I heard. Canadian property ownership laws prevents secondary governing bodies from imposing leans on your property, or even fining you in some cases.

I lived in one briefly, had their own police force (security) that could issue tickets that you paid to the HOA, if you didn't pay it was added to your dues.

I feel sorry for that cafe owner after reading the decision. The customers were being shitheads to her, possibly on racial grounds, possibly on sex grounds, and the court found she had every right to kick them out, but she said (in anger) “you Arabs” and even though they were Arabs, that’s why she got stung with penalties.

realistically...half the world knows canada harbors this blight on society. I imagine at this point the word has spread so that everyone in the building is aware of Johnathon and actively reports to the LR account holder what is going on. Imagine knowing you lived a door down from someone who is gaining international infamy for being an absolute creep online. If you were a good citizen...the most polite thing you should do is let someone who lives near someone like that know; "Hey btw..here's the social media account of xyz unit. Be warned and keep your distance."
