SCP Foundation - Creepypasta with roid rage - now ITT: SCP fans

Hey Harmony, remember when Kaktus interviewed Mann on his podcast and Bright's past antics came up and Mann was like "Yeah sometimes you just gotta ignore him... that's just Bright!" LOL

Hey everyone here's some etc good bits from staff chat, for tonight's reading pleasure.

22:49:55: <taylor_iOStkin> Holy shot
22:49:57: <taylor_iOStkin> Shit*
22:50:03: <taylor_iOStkin> Kinch wants to add the trans logo to 2721
22:50:09: taylor_iOStkin pinches bridge of nose
22:50:40: <bright> :)
22:50:50: <Roget> good
22:51:28: <taylor_iOStkin> No
22:51:30: <taylor_iOStkin> Really not good
22:51:52: <taylor_iOStkin> That’s going to be throwing lighter fluid onto a fire that has BARELY begun to go out
22:52:19: <LadyKatie> Can we veto that?
22:52:25: <Tombstone> I hate 2019 so much
22:52:34: <taylor_iOStkin> I doubt it, Katie
22:52:41: <Roget> taylor_iOStkin: so less than ideal then
22:52:50: <taylor_iOStkin> Roget: ...yes
22:53:21: <Roget> taylor_iOStkin: okay but real talk I don't think there's anything we can do to veto that move or prevent kinch from doing that, but given that it's a collab it would also require dolph to agree
22:53:26: <Roget> I think that's the other collab partner right
22:53:45: <Tombstone> +yup
22:53:56: <taylor_iOStkin> I know I just think it’s a stupid idea
22:55:00: <Tombstone> it's certainly not a smart one
22:55:12: <Roget> We can always lock the discussion page if it starts to get out of hand again
22:55:26: <taylor_iOStkin> According to her ‘I’m not going to spend the rest of my days on the wiki tiptoeing because of transphobes’
22:55:36: <taylor_iOStkin> You don’t have to tiptoe just don’t fucking stomp
22:56:13: <Roget> I can get behind that sentiment, kinch has caught as much shit as anyone from this and wanting to be defiant is a natural instinct
22:57:55: <Tombstone> I don't really want to ask her to not do this tbh but at the same time I'd really prefer if she didn't
22:58:37: <taylor_iOStkin> Exactly, Tombstone
22:59:04: <Joreth> same
22:59:08: <Tombstone> problem is we didn't exactly go all out on supporting her in the past
22:59:21: <taylor_iOStkin> We can’t veto this. Like. We just can’t
22:59:22: <bright> Why not stomp?
22:59:30: <taylor_iOStkin> Even if it was within the power of staff to veto it we can’t.
22:59:33: <Tombstone> if we had, we'd be well placed to ask her to work with us
22:59:36: <bright> Stomp, makoe a scene, make people care.
22:59:42: <taylor_iOStkin> bright: because then we have to deal with all the backfire
22:59:47: <taylor_iOStkin> People do care
22:59:48: <Tombstone> as it stands, we need to show her we can work with her
22:59:52: <taylor_iOStkin> At this point I want people to forget
22:59:53: <bright> draw aggro for those who can't
23:00:01: <taylor_iOStkin> Bright to be perfectly honest
23:00:06: <Tombstone> some of us /are/ those who can't
23:00:22: <taylor_iOStkin> I’m sick of deleting people jacking off with hamburger buns from Facebook my dude
23:00:23: <taylor_iOStkin> Like
23:00:37: <taylor_iOStkin> 2721 should not be deleted but I think calling attention to it is ridiculously stupid
23:00:53: <Tombstone> hmm
23:00:54: <Tombstone> y'know
23:00:59: <Tombstone> we may actually be overblowing this a little
23:01:10: <Tombstone> changes to individual articles aren't noticed that widely
23:01:30: <taylor_iOStkin> Yeah but I’m pretty sure there are more daily views on 2721 than most articles
23:01:40: <Tombstone> and most people going to 2721 have either decided they hate it already or are approaching it with an open mind deliberately
23:02:06: <Roget> Tombstone: I think it might be somewhere between those two extremes
23:02:24: <Tombstone> I'm not saying nobody will notice
23:02:27: <Roget> I think we still see daily complaining and using 2721 as a symbol for what's wrong with SCP but it's at a much much lower volume than when it initially happened
23:02:39: <Tombstone> just, y'know, it won't be June2018 level fuckery
23:02:42: <Tafbeda> guys
23:02:46: <Tafbeda> are y'all serious
23:02:48: <taylor_iOStkin> Roget: and I think adding this will raise it again
23:02:54: <Tafbeda> why do we think that adding the trans logo is somehow going to inflame people more than they already are
23:03:13: <taylor_iOStkin> TafBEDa: I don’t think it will inflame them more I think it’s just going to call attention to the article again
23:03:44: <Tombstone> TafBEDa: find the nearest guy yelling at a 17 year old because of his fast food or whatever and just tell him "no" without any context
23:04:02: <Tombstone> I predict he will mange to get even angrier
23:04:13: <Tombstone> There isn't really an upper limit on rage
23:04:29: <Tombstone> Except I guess whatever blood pressure people literally explode at
23:04:56: <taylor_iOStkin> I’m not saying we should tell them not to do it I just think it’s stupid

05:02:45: <Clef> when I first met you, Bright, I think you mentioned you were living with your wife and a slave
05:02:49: <Clef> and I was like, "wut."
05:02:57: <Dexanote> i heard 'girlfriend'
05:02:57: <TheDuckMan> With my wife, but i had a slave, aye.
05:04:28: <TheDuckMan> Now it's wife and life partner, and a good dozen occiaional play partners... Yeh. I always have that issue when dealing with incels, or that type, like... I could have been one of you. I'm fat, often obnoxious, horny, and loud.
05:04:30: <TheDuckMan> Like.
05:04:53: <TheDuckMan> I coulda been one of those guys complaining about not getting laid, or how women are just there for sex.
05:05:04: <TheDuckMan> But I drank "Respect Women Juice" and got laid.

(How the hell NO ONE thought or had the guts to address that this person was probably not a good person in a position of authority... is BEYOND ME.)

05:07:01: <Dexanote> Honestly we have a pretty solid group
05:07:11: <Dexanote> Even the worst of us are pretty alright

05:06:20: <Ard> honestly i discovered the scp wiki during like
05:06:23: <Ard> the most formative years of my youth
05:06:38: <Ard> so i ended up getting drenched in that respect juice

(BANANAMAN is Roget/Harmony)
20:45:16: <SubtleTea> Taylor had been doxxed already, yes?
20:45:22: <SubtleTea> On Kiwi Farms.
20:45:24: MobileMagnus nosepinch.
20:45:25: <DrBleep> Yep
20:45:26: <AbsentmindedNihilist> yes
20:45:31: <Ard> lord
20:45:33: <MobileMagnus> This is a bad move.
20:45:34: <SubtleTea> MobileMagnus: smell a rat?
20:45:35: <Ard> fuck kiwifarms too
.....
02:46:00: <MrAnakinSpecter> some weirdos think you're like a spy or something
02:46:02: <MrAnakinSpecter> it's hilarious
02:49:21: <salvagebar> me?
02:49:23: <salvagebar> Who does
02:49:39: <MrAnakinSpecter> the nutters from that forum that lordstonefish found
02:49:50: <MrAnakinSpecter> that shit on raccoon [ProcyonLotor] for seven pages
02:49:57: <salvagebar> WHo am I spying for
02:50:10: <salvagebar> linkum pls this sounds goood
02:50:12: <ProcyonLotor> let's see if they're right
02:50:14: <MrAnakinSpecter> social justice warriors i think lol
02:50:19: <salvagebar> you have me
02:50:21: <salvagebar> I am a spy
02:50:56: <ProcyonLotor> funnily enough, while I lean left, if you take SCP staff, both wiki and chat, as a group, I am one of the most conservative members by a fairly wide margin
02:51:01: salvagebar pulls back his leather duster and reveals a syringe, tiny radio, microfilm rolls, invisible ink, cyanide pills
02:51:39: <MrAnakinSpecter> salvagebar: https://kiwifarms.net/threads/scp-foundation.30545/page-5#post-2246936
02:52:13: <salvagebar> oh I forgot what cow is
02:52:27: <salvagebar> Salavagebar has confessed to being an active member of the SRS community, but seems really good at covering their tracks.
02:52:29: <MrAnakinSpecter> idk what that is either. i asked in 19 but got drowned out
02:52:29: <salvagebar> thank you
02:52:33: <salvagebar> my efforts work
02:53:39: <MrAnakinSpecter> salvagebar: "Many users on the staff appear to have some sort of seedy past (salvagebar is a chat mod who admits to using SRS),"
03:00:42: <salvagebar> a lot of this is reasonable criticism of the site
03:01:21: <MrAnakinSpecter> to be honest i am rather disappointed that the other users seemed to want to give their opinions about the site and not shit on staff like the original poster wanted
03:02:19: <ProcyonLotor> I'm just surprised they thought that xtube profile was mine
03:02:24: <ProcyonLotor> it doesn't even have a raccoon avatar
03:02:30: <ProcyonLotor> I give //everything// a raccoon avatar
03:02:32: <salvagebar> For the life of me, I could never understand the SCP phenomena. Despite the handful of interesting monsters, the nature of the site meant nothing of value was done with them and even if it was, the writing was typically just as [redacted] as [Charlie-Walker-Charlie #Jewel-A level clearance needed]. The only good SCPs have received Jeff the [redacted] level of exposure, causing a massive influx
03:02:32: <salvagebar> of shitty authors with bland, unoriginal ideas. Frankly, I'm not surprised this dynamic has resulted in such a fucking awful community. Especially since the major contributors all seemed to be self-insert Mary Sue writers to begin with.
03:02:37: <salvagebar> nail > head
03:03:21: <MrAnakinSpecter> i know right?
03:04:27: <salvagebar> these guys are huge fans
03:04:46: <BANANAMAN> I like that they're all talking about the Scp foundation being on a downward slide and using articles from when they descriebd the site as being in a golden age as proof
03:04:47: <BANANAMAN> genius
03:04:52: <salvagebar> need to make sure my walls are tight
03:05:01: <ProcyonLotor> bend over salvage
03:05:37: <ProcyonLotor> also, it's generally true for ED and same for here
03:05:38: <salvagebar> MY DREAMS
03:05:43: <salvagebar> finally come true
03:05:51: <ProcyonLotor> the people who write this shit are usually passionate fans, just disgruntled
03:06:01: <ProcyonLotor> and they try to separate themselves through irony and insults
03:06:17: <ProcyonLotor> because //no one else gives a shit enough to track this shit if they have no investment in it//
03:06:48: <MrAnakinSpecter> well one person there had at least tried to submit something to us but gave up after one coldpost it seems
03:06:55: <salvagebar> They are just talking about "Good SCPs I Have Known"
03:06:57: <salvagebar> bless them
03:07:03: <salvagebar> I see this as vindication
03:07:27: <salvagebar> also I am feared - it's been ages since I even talked about SRS
03:07:40: <salvagebar> they moved to Discord for better control and security [Wait I thought discord was a mess and SCP staff doesn't want to do it for that reason?]
03:07:45: <MrAnakinSpecter> they are wrong aout good skips too, mine isn't listed there once
03:08:12: <salvagebar> your writing is too highbrow MrAnakinSpecter
03:08:19: <salvagebar> they want BIG MONSTAR
03:08:25: <MrAnakinSpecter> the things i suffer for my art
03:08:35: <MrAnakinSpecter> philistines
03:08:41: <AidenEldritch> EVIL
03:08:48: <AidenEldritch> MONSTAR, SHOW ME THE THINGS I NEVER-
03:08:49: AidenEldritch cough
03:10:10: <MrAnakinSpecter> ???
03:10:19: <ProcyonLotor> oh take me, MONSTAR
03:12:20: <BANANAMAN> I'm sad they didn't try to stalk me :<
03:14:46: <BANANAMAN> "I refuse to believe a woman or group of women who aren't emotionless husks came up with some of the more horrifying and popular SCPs. " who the fuck are these people
03:15:07: <MrAnakinSpecter> social shut-in hateful kids
03:15:38: <BANANAMAN> heh
03:15:39: <salvagebar> Bananaman they explain that they feel spergs write the best horror/creepopasto
03:16:07: <BANANAMAN> "Man reading these logs between this Roxie tranny and the admins has to be some of the cringiest shit I've ever seen. They treat this shit as serious as a fuckin court case."
03:16:15: <BANANAMAN> my god we treat things seriously call the fucking presses
03:16:31: <salvagebar> Speaking of dumb SCP ideas; I recently got one too since the thread shifted; a scratch lotto ticket whose numbers randomly result in events happening to you within a week or two of scratching for them; the closer you are to a winning number, the more unlikely and significant the event. The only problem is it's about 50/50 good or bad.
03:17:46: <BANANAMAN> ProcyonLotor: man these people really went after you
03:18:34: <ProcyonLotor> I know, it's great
03:18:49: <BANANAMAN> I'm jelly tbh
03:19:23: <MrAnakinSpecter> jesus christ if they actually dug around porn sites for your username that goes beyond hatred
03:20:43: <ProcyonLotor> fun fact, besides like, some furry smut sites which are all under old names, I don't create accounts on porn site
03:20:44: <ProcyonLotor> *s
03:20:53: <ProcyonLotor> because why the fuck would you create an account on porn sites?
03:20:59: <MrAnakinSpecter> exactly
03:21:03: <BANANAMAN> Right?
03:21:04: <BANANAMAN> who does that
03:21:14: <MrAnakinSpecter> people who comment on porn
03:21:34: <ProcyonLotor> I mean, the dude on xtube who has my name is so transparently not me I'm kind of ashamed they fell for it
03:21:51: <ProcyonLotor> Like, he's from Central Pennsylvania, and I'm like... not exactly shy about being a born and bred chicagoan
03:22:04: <BANANAMAN> did you ever live in hawaii
03:22:12: <ProcyonLotor> It's a good thing they're chasing their own tails, but come on, up yr game
03:22:13: <BANANAMAN> because I saw them post that and it seemed very odd
03:22:14: <ProcyonLotor> nope
03:22:17: <BANANAMAN> lol
03:22:33: <ProcyonLotor> I went to school for two years in Virginia, but other than that, Illinois all the way
03:22:41: <ProcyonLotor> and like, the same county in Illinois
03:22:48: <ProcyonLotor> I'm not exactly a nomad
03:23:09: <salvagebar> but did you cover your tracks well like I did
03:23:50: <ProcyonLotor> fuck no
03:24:03: <salvagebar> I actively deleted things for a bit
03:24:04: <ProcyonLotor> like, I've said my full legal name like four times in public chat in the past month alone
03:24:15: <BANANAMAN> I have my full legal name on my wikidot profile
03:24:16: <salvagebar> Pro C. Lotor
03:24:31: <ProcyonLotor> These people are pleb tier f
03:24:33: <ProcyonLotor> *.
03:24:41: <ProcyonLotor> Like, I'm glad I don't have to deal with someone actually skilled
03:24:42: <ProcyonLotor> but still
03:24:44: <ProcyonLotor> c'mon, guys
03:25:01: <ProcyonLotor> you're making me look bad, bringing in all the fuckboi doxxers
03:25:10: <salvagebar> maybe they don't believe that's real info because it's out in the open
03:25:14: <salvagebar> red herring
03:25:18: <ProcyonLotor> hiding in plain site
03:25:31: <ProcyonLotor> fun fact: that xtube profile is the only place where I'm being honest about my life.
03:25:39: <salvagebar> lol
03:27:02: <BANANAMAN> I kind of want to make an account to post and refute these guys but I don't want to give the the satisfaction+it would be an exercise in futility
03:27:13: <salvagebar> oh hell yeah
03:27:20: <salvagebar> I felt the same impulse for a minute
03:27:53: <ProcyonLotor> please don't
03:28:00: <salvagebar> but there's no way
03:28:06: <ProcyonLotor> 1) actually interacting with these people is basically catnip for them
03:28:08: <salvagebar> it can only make things worse
03:28:14: <ProcyonLotor> because that's when shit gets //fun//
03:28:41: <BANANAMAN> yeah that's what my second thought was
03:28:45: <BANANAMAN> they don't want to learn
03:28:47: <BANANAMAN> they just wanna be haters

05:49:41: <Roget> I think the move to bring in the reddit mods of other subreddits has worked out wonderfully
05:49:55: <Roget> they've all been excellent to have in the fold for the most part and it gives us a much better finger on the community pulse
05:50:01: <Roget> plus it expands our messaging options
05:50:21: <trets> Agreed
05:50:33: <trets> Mod, Yossi, and Tsat have all stepped up wonderfully
05:50:49: <bluesoul> where is yossi active
05:51:39: <Roget> bedtime for me
05:51:42: <LadyKatie> They're really bringing more life to the subreddit. It's not the same stuff over and over again (well it is but such is Reddit) but they're bringing in new ideas and new ways to keep people engaged. Plus, I don't know how many of you have access to the RSS feed, but 105 troll is incredibly active and they stay on top of that like bosses
05:51:42: <bluesoul> man, turns out that when dinner is about a hundred calories of soup, a whiskey and coke hits like a bomb
05:51:52: <trets> Roget: Can you hold off for like two minutes
05:51:53: <LadyKatie> Also, the password debacle was handled incredibly well
05:52:11: <Roget> trets: yee
(Anyone know what this "password debacle" was?)

On monetizing the site. How much of this is joking?
04:54:51: <trets> also in fun survey data fact
04:55:30: <trets> In the year and a half since our last survey, our % of 15-19 year olds has gone up three percent
04:55:47: <trets> And our Native English Speakers has dropped by 5%
04:56:26: <Roget> advertisers will love us when we can sell our own ads
04:56:33: <trets> Def
04:58:03: <Roget> hopefully that day is not too far-flung
04:59:27: <trets> I said this before, but I'll say it again, if we like ever become a proper business and be able to like pay staff and stuff
04:59:34: <trets> I really really want to be the CCO or PR director
05:00:08: <Wogglebug> lol
05:00:17: <Wogglebug> why
05:00:17: <taylor_itkin> I wanna be the jester
05:00:23: <taylor_itkin> wait this is a corporation not a kingdom
05:01:46: <trets> Wait
05:02:02: <bright> "Dear readers: We will sell your information. That is the price for it being free. Thank you."

22:51:30: <taylor_iOStkin> Really not good
22:51:52: <taylor_iOStkin> That’s going to be throwing lighter fluid onto a fire that has BARELY begun to go out
22:52:19: <LadyKatie> Can we veto that?

Thank you."
You’re just having too much fun aren’t you

no idea what the password thing is but check contemporary 05 threads?

05:02:57: <TheDuckMan> With my wife, but i had a slave, aye.
05:04:28: <TheDuckMan> Now it's wife and life partner, and a good dozen occiaional play partners... Yeh. I always have that issue when dealing with incels, or that type, like... I could have been one of you. I'm fat, often obnoxious, horny, and loud.
Wonder if his wife has or will ever find out some of those "good dozen occasional play partners" are high school girls at best.
03:07:40: <salvagebar> they moved to Discord for better control and security [Wait I thought discord was a mess and SCP staff doesn't want to do it for that reason?]
They only pretend Discord's a mess because they want to enforce using IRC, their IRC server specifically, so they can have access to all of their users' personal information that most of them aren't aware they're giving, which frankly probably isn't legal.

I feel so bad for his wife jeez

If I have to give my perspective on it, I believe Series 5000 is really when SCP started to go downhill for me, I genuinely loved SCP-4000, being the fairytale nut I am. I loved Red Reality and I love the concept behind Pattern Screamers, but I guess I usually stick to skips that have an interesting premise and actually stick with it. Call me a cynic, but series 5000 is when I started to grow more pessimistic when it came to the medium.

I miss the days when you could write about sayyyy.. a room made of human flesh or a statue that snaps your neck when you blink and everyone would be happy with that. Nowadays people shit on the old skips while ignoring the flaws of the newer ones, especially that fucking dado donut one, holy shit that one's garbage.

I don't want to leave this on a bitter note, here's a skip that somewhat intrigued me when I first read it: SCP-5666: When A Mind Flies Into The Sun

It's been a while since I read it, but it's not really the story that intrigues me, but the inspiration and execution of it. The basic summary of the skip (as found on SCPDeclassified) "SCP-5666 itself is quite interesting. It’s a broken plane that can be flown once you’re inside. SCP-5666-A refers to the landscape from the inside of 5666, which appears to be different from what’s actually outside the plane. It loops after a bit of travelling.". However, the inspiration for said skip are the infamous albums by The Caretaker, otherwise known as Leyland James Kirby. Said albums, especially his magnum opus Everywhere At The End of Time revolve around dementia and the decay of the human mind. I wouldn't say that SCP-5666 is a phenomenal skip, but it did give me some intrigue. Sorry for rambling.

Feel free to give your own thoughts, I'd love to hear them.

There are still good writers but the soul died with Sorts and the spirit died with Troy

(How the hell NO ONE thought or had the guts to address that this person was probably not a good person in a position of authority... is BEYOND ME.)
Like I said before, it's the creepy old uncle reputation. It's easier to dismiss things like this as just who someone is when that person built a reputation for being that way early on, which Bright did. How much of that was intentional, I can't say, but he certainly benefitted from it and did nothing to stop people from viewing him that way.
05:06:20: <Ard> honestly i discovered the scp wiki during like
05:06:23: <Ard> the most formative years of my youth
05:06:38: <Ard> so i ended up getting drenched in that respect juice
In three chat messages probably sent with no thought, ARD has accidentally explained one of the biggest problems with the wiki today. People join the site during impressionable periods of their lives, happen to find some form of success with their work early on, and get hooked on the feelings of validation and respect. They want more, and one of two things happens:

1. They start chasing those feelings more and more and become progressively more obsessed as time goes on until they crash, burn out, and either leave the site altogether or take an extended break. The Great Hippo has talked at length about experiencing this, and he actually has the writing chops to back up his popularity, so that really says something.
2. They become egotists who flaunt their popularity and act like the hottest shit on the planet, often being incredibly shitty to people they view as being beneath them due to a lack of either popularity or writing skill. I don't even need to name an example of this, you're all thinking of the same person right now.

This, again, stems from the manic obsession with upvotes and the numbers game. SCP would improve dramatically if the rating module went back to just being a way of deleting articles that people don't like.

It marks the official end of site as friends writing for one another to an official staff hierarchy managing the Wiki and pretending to own the community at large
It happens with a lot of popular things. It starts off small between friends before growing, amassing a community that slowly overtakes the hobby and alienates those who founded it in the first place.

It marks the official end of site as friends writing for one another to an official staff hierarchy managing the Wiki and pretending to own the community at large
What, exactly, was the decision made here? It looks like something about the site charter and unnecessary bureaucracy, but I can't figure out what they're actually discussing.

This is the last cry in the wilderness to not adopt the charter system at all, the last canary in the coal mine before it was too late

This is the last cry in the wilderness to not adopt the charter system at all
It always struck me as one of the most unnecessary things they have. Staff, since I know you read this, you're not a government, you're a writing project. You don't need a charter, you just need rules, which you already have plenty of.

They aren’t going to actually listen they’ll take any opportunity they can to plug their ears and pretend KiwiFarms is 1:1 to fascism, even this lampshading of their dismissal bias won’t have an effect

and yeah the charter is only the paper-thin veneer of legitimacy they can cling to justify their authleft leanings when they are called out as not based

They aren’t going to actually listen they’ll take any opportunity they can to plug their ears and pretend KiwiFarms is 1:1 to fascism
This is the only way they're ever going to deal with the discussion here, because they have no other options if they are to maintain their reputation. To talk about us as if we're anything other than fascists who hate SCP because they're too accepting of queer people is to admit that we might have a point.

Back
