Andrew Torba / Gab (Gab.com / Gab.ai) / Dissenter (dissenter.com) - An incompetent captain sinking millions of other people's dollars.

Maybe. But its been the same shit on bitchute for four years now. By then youtube got out of its dogshit faze and more quality videos were being made. Maybe when BitChute finally gets streaming working things could change.
Except YouTube would go on to have many an Adpocalypse and would gain a reputation for becoming more and more corporate. BitChute doesn't look like they're going to gain a Pewdiepie type anytime soon.

to be fair, youtube was not built in a day either. I hope that a decent competitor site can come along and actually get traction, but all those other zombie video hosting sites are still around and barely clinging on(dailymotion etc)

My internet history is not very thorough but as far as i know there was not any giant monopoly-level website for free hosting of user's videos like youtube is now, when youtube was in it's infancy. It created a new market, a place where you could put your video with minimal hassle and for free, and created an empire. So now every new service will be starting with that extreme competition unlike youtube did.

And people want to destroy YouTube’s monopoly, or at least see a CEO that gives a shit about users other than the Hollywood types and the ones they can use in the advertiser pitch that is YouTube Rewind.

of course, i was just replying to the people who were talking about youtube's long history to get to where they are now.

Which is exactly my point. They don't have anyone that people will want to stick around for. The closest they have is Styxhexenhammer666.

It was hilarious watching Torba downplay this as much as possible and sperg about conservatism to hide his tracks, 8 bitcoins is only 414k USD, can he really not afford that?
That's not a small number, I fail to see how Gab is profitable. I used to have an account there to look at things, registered under a different name of course, never engaged. They would spam your inbox so I just deleted it.

What happens after you fulfill their ransom demands? Will the leaked data vanish? No, never negotiate with these faggots, it's never a good idea.

Even DDoSecrets bragging about a thing they did not do.
I am not a conspiracy theorist, but it sounds like they don't care.
One rule for them.
Right, doxxxxing "White supremacists", a term they get to define, usually as fucking broad as possible is fine, but doxxing faggot lefty journo cunts and their pack of snakes should be made illegal? How would such a law distinguish between the two? It's possible to be a White supremacist, a Zionist, and a leftist.

Monopoly level, as in borderline a monopoly? YouTube isn't a monopoly, sadly. They aren't even market dominant since Twitch is a thing. Moreover, what kind of market and how's it defined? YouTube falls under social media, in which no one is market dominant, as much as I want to see all these mainstream platforms get fucked. Google and Facebook on the other hand should fit squarely in the definition of a duopoly. It's a similar situation with the Chinese Netease and Tencent, except both are open to the wrath of the red cock. Google and Facebook aren't accountable to anyone.

Part of me feels bad for Torba, normies can't even be bothered to set up a protonmail or download a browser. Of course his site is filled with obnoxious boomers with dumb views and dumb tech. On a good side, this means nothing of value was leaked.

If what gets hacked? Federated instances are self hosted by numerous people. The whole idea is that there's no singular point of failure. If one of them somehow gets hacked it's the fault of the instance host, but even then none of these services usually ask for any personal info.
This is why I like to ask basic questions.

Do you have more detail?

Dissenter is the only browser I use.

The original Dissenter extension was banned from the Chrome and FireFox stores within weeks of release
You can sideload extensions without access to the store, and they did distribute it that way for a while. It was cool. Shame they force you to use an insecure browser to access it conveniently now (you can still technically do it through trends.gab.com but it's so out of the way that you won't want to bother)

A federated version would be neato.
This already exists, it's called copying the url and making a post with commentary. That way people who are interested in you see it instead of randos who just happen to click onto an out of the way extension on a whim.

Come to think of it Dissenter seems more like a gimmick than a genuinely good idea xD
