I'd bet anything that his ex wife is his medical contact, and likely named in his advanced directive and / or his POA in an emergency. Exactly, Luna and lurch took her mother’s bed, and were shooting up around her 24/7 for several years(?)all while she slept on the couch in her own apartment.

I don’t doubt that her mom was a shitty parent but that doesn’t negate how Luna has treated her as a grown fucking adult.

I also don’t believe mama tuna actually visited her or has had any contact with her recently , it’s most likely load bullshit just like her newfound ‘sobriety’. (Being benzo’d out on a daily basis hardly constitutes as sobriety, even if she’s abstained from her ~drug of choice~)

If dad is suffering and immediate family calls, I would think someone would give you some kind of info. Therefore I'm assuming this can be translated as: "I called the hospital sounding like an insane garbled whiny junkie and they weren't having any of my bullshit."

I’m curious how Luna knows he’s relapsed on benzos in the first place. It doesn’t seem like she’s actually seen him in the past month and unless he’s buying pills from Lurch it seems strange she’s so positive that’s what’s going on.

It does sound like he’s suffered some sort of stroke. He might have had a small one which started the confused behavior which Luna determined was a relapse. He might have had additional ones compounding the issue.

Luna’s dad has a long drug history and doesn’t strike me as a guy who would be babbling without a jacket not knowing where he lives because he ate some Xanax.

If I was Luna I’d certainly want to believe my dad had relapsed on drugs instead of facing the fact he might have suffered permanent brain damage via a stroke.

Pro tip: If you’re trying to reach someone at a hospital and know that you’re not on the list, call and say, “Hi, I’m trying to reach ( ) and have reason to believe they might be at your hospital. I am (whatever you are to them). I know you can’t confirm this, but is it possible for you to take my name and phone number and pass it along?” I’m biased because i’m usually trying to reach clients in emergencies, but in my experience nurses will take your info down and help facilitate the call if that’s what the patient wants. Obvs this won’t help Luna since Dad seems to be avoiding her, but thought I’d share in case any other kiwis end up in a similar situation
