TGWTG Nostalgia Chick / Lindsay Ellis / TheDudette - aka Hotdogs in face girl

I love this lame defense so much: "but the Bumblebee comparison just reveals an ignorance of how publishing works & how long getting a book published takes. my agent picked up the book in oct 2018. Bumblebee was released in Dec 2018. St Martins Press bought axiom’s end in Jan 2019. I didn’t write it in a month lol"

Because no one has ever wrote a book in a month, Lindsay. Not to mention that if it the book rights were bought in Jan 2019 and the book didn't drop until July 2020, that there was plenty of time for you to lift major parts from the TF film series? If Lindsay had presented drafts made before the release of Bumblebee as proof, then I could buy that, but her "defense" here is weaker than her pickled liver.
Her agent didn’t tell her that they couldn’t release a book that was similar to a huge movie that just came out? Especially one part of a franchise listed as an inspiration?

Sounds like Lindsay kept that part quiet. Doesn’t matter whether she came up with the idea separately, no agent would touch that with a barge pole.

Why are all these SJWs drunks? I don't mean that in a cruel way. It just makes me sad they can't look in the mirror sober. I don't agree with Lindsay or Contrapoints' politics, and I don't think they're as smart as they think, but there are times I've gotten some enjoyment out of their videos and I think they have something to offer. Throwing it all away for alcohol, which is a lousy drug, is just sad.

Her autistic fixation with Transformers is annoying. REALLY annoying since it's starting to clash with her work and the literal shit she tries to sell.

Transformers isn't that great. It's a walking advertisment to sell toys to children and has never made a single good movie. Its characters are boring and derivative. Its plot is pretty stock. I understand if people find the idea of talking mechs cool. It's neat to watch the fights, I guess. But to be this obsessed over it? Super lame and super sad.

But I guess the desire to fuck Starscream really is that powerful.

Also, she was tweeting about having to do rewrites in order to make things clearer to the audience in that time frame. How much did she rewrite? For all we know she ripped off Bumblebee in a lazy way to make the book more legible.

I don't think that's what she actually did but it's disingenuous to try and pretend such a thing couldn't have happened.
And not only did she lift Transformers....she lifted from Michael Bay Transfomers. That'll get you crucified online. But Lindsay has the right politics, so....

I'd say there's probably a limit to how much she can do before lawyers come calling, and that's what Lindsay was hoping to ride on.

The only thing I've seen about Transformers is that people think G1 is actually a matter of what's done with the concepts for if it's good or bad (I mean, how much shit for Transformers use the G1 designs and plot setup for things like comics and video games), and the Michal Bay films (which is apparently what Lindsay took from her book) is absolute dog shit.

All I know is that NZ was producing good homegrown shows like Outrageous Fortunes and The Almighty Johnsons (Great show btw).

Then suddenly no new Kiwi shows altogether. Now its all going to the 20 Avatar sequels by James Cameron. Big budget gets prioritised over smaller shows that could win big praise/business overseas.
You're right about Almighty Johnsons.I do wonder if there's other productions from New Zealand that merit a watch but aside from Seven Periods With Mr Gormsby not seen many.

It's a bit formulaic, but I like The Brokenwood Mysteries. It's just a quaint, Kiwi version of a crime drama. Fresh Eggs wasn't bad, either, and The Sounds is kind of good. The acting can be a bit iffy, though. Oh, and Wellington Paranormal, a spinoff of What We Do in the Shadows, is pretty funny.

She's mentioned multiple times she thinks the first Bayformers could have been a good movie if some fixes had been made, so I think that's what she was trying to do with the book.

I don't disagree, doing the franchise from the perspective of the humans and exploring how the government would react to these giants robots who can disguise themselves as everyday vehicles could have worked as a premise, but I don't think Lindsey Ellis is the person who could do that effectively. And from what I've heard about the book, she didn't.

A coping mechanism picked up in university. Reality doesn't work the way they have been deluded into believing and you can only crusade against ist's, phobes, and unwashed masses before you just burn out. So turn to the bitter blanket of booze and for a few hours keep the thought 'You are wrong about everything' at bay.

I mean I have brain dead autistic attachment to things from my childhood, including Transformers, but Christ, I wouldn't let that shit inform everything I wrote.

And I never understood the sexual component in TF fandom. I mean...they're robots goddamn it!

The only real thing I think could be knocked on when it comes to Lindsay and Transformers is her acting like it’s deeper than it really is.

So it that because NZ companies don't have the funding to access local production facilities? I imagine those international productions are getting major tax concessions fromt the NZ goverenement.

A few years ago a mate of mine gave me a copy of a show called Diplomatic Immunity, which was a little slow but fun.

Occam's razor. The most likely explanation is that neither pieces of media are particularly original because they're both inspired by a shitty cartoon designed to sell toys in the eighties.

So both Lindsay and Jenny Nicholson are nominated eligible for Hugo awards this year. Corrected for accuracy, calm down ppl.

ETA: Olly Thorn was also nominated for an Audie (?) for voicing Lindsay's literary tour de force.

Are we really surprised? If you got the connections and cash, you could easily get nominated for any awards you want. They just got nominated because they have the right politics and connections.
Can any of you guys actually read? Even by her own posts she says she's just eligible. So is any other shitpile sci-fi author who published something in 2020.

She's fishing for a nomination, she doesn't actually have one.
