The solution would be to design primers that cover a well conserved region of the genome. The trade off of course is that you wouldn't be able to detect SNPs (single nucleotide polymorphisms) that differentiate strains of the virus. Alternatively, you could have two primer sets--one to amplify the conserved region, and another to detect a SNP in the variable region.I like how they word it so it's as scary as possible. I'm no expert, but in PCR reactions there are these things called primers. These primers bind to the genetic material you want to copy and amplify. In this case a section of the COVID genetic material. This is what you are testing for, whatever these little primers bind to. Every time the test material gets heat cycled, the genetic material attached to the primers doubles. (that's where the cycle threshhold thing comes from, how many heat cycles). Anyway basically this means the "new mutant" is very different on one of these standard primers they have been using, and has sites so different that it won't bind to them. All that means is they have to redesign the primers for the newer version, it doesn't mean they could "ZOMG ITS UNDECTABLE! RUN!" I hate the media, you know that's how they are going to spin that. I'm so tired of spin.

He asks her:" Are you getting the shot?'
She said no and stated her reasons were that she did not get the flu shot and that she never get's sick. My co-worker who is pregnant also said she is not doing it due to those concerns. Not a concern for me but it is just me and hubby. Who will care for me or him if we have to to working? Nobody.
So unless I can SUE you, I am not taking anything. If I choose to travel I would rather do the J and J.
