The only way to damage your skins natural layer is by exfoliating while being in a really really really hot shower. That will damage the skins natural barrier and make it a lot more dry, but it's nothing a little bit of lotion won't fix. It's also not that big of a deal, it's not like people who shower every day are washing their skin raw all in the name of smelling good. While it is true every single human will become disabled at one point in life (temporary or otherwise) and rely on some care from others, its still not fun...if you've ever broken a bone or gotten sick and couldn't do what you once could you'll understand.
