'No Stupid Questions' (NSQ) Internet & Technology Edition

Have a controller paired, tried disconnecting but still same issue. Out of interest tried using both at the same time and the controller has massive input lag (works perfectly fine without the headset paired). Tried the same combo on my windows laptop and works fine.

Thats a good point, I'll try a live linux distro, at least that will confirm if its a hardware issue or a windows/settings issue.
There's a very small chance a blue tooth synced to a separate device is causing interference. Try disconnecting/disabling blue tooth synced to different devices. Like a blue tooth controller synced to your laptop etc

This thread should be named "Tech support general".

One thing that I found out the hard way with my bluetooth headset is that it has two different modes, and Windows doesn't like that at all. One (Orange) is for microphone+low quality audio, and the second (Green) is for only audio at a higher quality. If I try to send audio both ways it doesn't like that.

Take a look at your control panel and see if you can see anything similar, and if that's a problem.

Oops forgot the image.

When I first turn my computer on every day, 8/10 times it will crash in 0-5 minutes with a memory related blue screen (irql drivers, memory fault in nonpaged area, attempt to write to read only memory, etc). Restarting the computer fixes the problem and it doesn’t happen on that second boot, only the first time each day. I ran the built in windows memory diagnostic and found no problems. Even though these are memory related blue screens, I get the feeling there’s some other problem, since it started happening around the time I reinstalled windows. So, do you guys think this is a hardware problem with the ram sticks or a software problem? I could run a real memtest86 which I haven’t yet. Can software even cause these types of bluescreens?

Recently got a Samsung 970 EVO NVMe M.2 and want to transfer my old drive to the NVMe M.2. I had a friend tell me that I can't transfer the data/OS the same way I would do with another SSD. Is he full of shit?

Sounds like there isn't enough memory on your SSD/HDD for your OS to run properly. How much GB on your drive isn't in use?

If you're running Micropenis Losedows the DRM might get pissy about you changing hardware, otherwise as long as you have the drivers already installed before you transfer I don't see why it would be a problem

Software can basically cause any type of bluescreen but I'm guessing your RAM's probably dodgy, so defo run memtest

I recently got a 2 TB SSD which holds the OS, and not very much space has been taken up so far (1.5TB free at minimum), so I can’t imagine that there’s an issue with that.

Install gentoo.

Wanna get a second opinion here.

So recently my graphics have started glitching. Every now and then the desktop would freak out, my cursor would jump to the middle of the screen, my second monitor would blank and all my windows would go to my main desktop. It's very strange because you think a problem like that would lead to a panic, but it's totally fine after it's freakout. So I'm thinking nothing is wrong with the actual circuitry, but it's a power supply problem, not enough energy getting to everything. I swapped the PSU and so far everything seems fine but I'm still waiting. My second thought is that it's the motherboard and it's just a really unique issue that the OS/firmware can't detect. I only think this because after a reboot, my ethernet stopped working and it forgot what audio device it's supposed to output to. It only happened once, though.

Try replacing your monitor cables.

Is there a benefit of getting/learning how to use a Raspberry Pi? My (probably autistic) coworker won't shut the fuck up about it. Keeps saying that learning how to use one will open up employment opportunities for him.

I mean, anything looks good on a resume if you say the right thing, but I wouldn't bank on it as your only crutch in an interview. If you have tech in your life that you want to replace with something more customizable (3D Printer controllers, cell phones, car infotainment systems, Smart TV mainboards), want to also put Linux experience on a resume, or you just want a very low power computer you can take anywhere, I'd invest the paltry amount to get started.

Sorry I didn't think those thumb screws would do a good enough job so I superglued and then steel welded them on to my graphic's card to make sure they didn't accidentally come loose.

I hope you're kidding but I've seen worse.

If windows jumps from one screen to the other then the connection to the monitor was lost. It could be a power issue for the monitors. Have the monitors running, spread a couple of folders around. Jiggle one monitor, see if anything happens, jiggle the other, see if anything happens, twist/turn them a little bit, jiggle the power connector gently etc. I had a super-loose power cable a couple of years ago and my monitor blinked off and my windows were rearrange sometimes when I stood up and the chair bumped the desk from below.

Do you have two NVMe drives? If it's SATA HDD/SSD to NVMe that's no problem, otherwise you would need two NVMe slots or a NVMe to USB adapter. Alternatively you can use another disk as the go between and this is where it gets a bit messy. So what do you have?

The thing is it was both monitors, at the same time. It also doesn't explain the cursor jumping to the center of the screen.

New PSU is still fine though, so I'm guessing it was that.

If a display goes out or a new one is detected, most OSs will reset your mouse position because there's no way of telling whether or not the cursor would be in a valid place.

Using Brave?

edit: because I've noticed some strange behaviour after switching over a week or so ago. (on desktop, used it on mobile for quite some time)

Yeah why?
Like my edit said, I switched over very recently(a week maybe) and have noticed some strange behaviour INCLUDING the mouse going to the center of the screen. I didn't think much of it, I run lots of macros and weird shit so I can avoid the mouse and I write the scripts myself so there will be some weirdness, but it had never happened before and I hadn't changed/updated anything.

This is currently my offscreen, don't judge me, I'm a simple sperg:
bravenewtabs.JPG

That list of Chrome windows should be stacked as a scrollable list, there used to be so many forgotten windows with tons of tabs in them on that screen. They got moved to my primary screen a couple of days ago for some reason. On the primary there should only be news and mail.

~3 days ago I woke the screens up from sleep and the offscreen showed static, like an old TV, except there were some color blocks in there not just black and white. I have never seen that before. That monitor is connected by DVI, it shouldn't show static like that and then stop after a second or two.

I had used desktop Brave sparingly here and there in the past with no problem(it was already installed, not just updated in forever), just for the lazy TOR mode, but I made it my Kiwi browser a week ago so it's always running in the background and things have been a bit strange.

Going to be a SSD to NVMe transfer. Just needed to confirm that I can treated it like any other drive transfer.

Just clone it. Boot from SATA, clone (expand the partition if you want), switch boot order, boom, shouldn't be any problem. Remember that it doesn't always work on the first try, so try, try and try again, SSDs are fast so it won't take that long. Worst case scenario you'll need Linux on a stick. I mentioned it earlier but Macrium Reflect is a really nice program for doing this.
