PART 2: JOE TANGLES WITH JESSE SINGAL...AGAIN
In his first paid piece for Substack, posted today, Joe made these claims about Jesse Singal:
People on Twitter asked Joe when and where Jesse Singal had said these things. By way of evidence, Joe eventually produced some "receipts": screenshots of the relevant excerpts of Singal's work.

Unfortunately, the screencaps showed that Singal did NOT in fact say "trans people are a contagion." He really said this:

In a textbook narc tactic, Joe repeatedly tries to direct attention away from his own easily caught lies about Singal's work and onto the REAL issue: trying to force Singal to declare that Glinner, who has nothing to do with this, is a harasser!

There are several layers of insanity to this. The fact that Joe thought he could get away with so blatantly mischaracterizing Singal's work is bizarre by itself. There are even more weird, obvious lies in the full Substack piece which I linked at the top of this post. Joe is not stupid; he knows that tons of people will do the work of trying to verify his lurid claims. I don't understand how and why he thought he was going to get away with this. Once called out, he then spent hours doubling and tripling down trying to insist he did nothing wrong. THEN his total short circuit, screaming about Glinner and calling Singal "stupid," "coward," "fool," "viper," etc.
Let me end by saying that Jesse Singal appears to have many fans who are interested in defending everything he does. That is not my motivation here; I'm only interested in Singal as he relates to Lavery. Singal has annoying moments, but he consistently comes off as a good faith interlocutor who chooses his words carefully when he interacts with Lavery or discusses troonery in general. It's not Singal who has a seething, malicious fixation on Joe. It's the other way around.

And Singal did NOT in fact demand that Foreign Policy take down Joe's shitstain of an essay. Singal really said this:When parents discuss the reasons they question their children's desire to transition, whether in online forums or in response to a journalist's questions, many mention "social contagion." These parents are worried that their kids are influenced by the gender-identity exploration they're seeing online and perhaps at school or in other social settings, rather than experiencing gender dysphoria.
Several people confronted Joe about this glaring inconsistency. Here's one dialog he attempted with a critic. If you like Socrates, well, you'll love Joe Lavery's brain diarrhea:I could go on and on, because even beyond the plainly wrong or misleading stuff in Lavery’s article, so many aspects of it struck me as bizarre, wrongheaded, and argumentatively thin (the gymnast analogy! Oh my God). Suffice it to say I think Foreign Policy should correct the most serious errors, and suffice it to say I doubt that will happen. At the very least, I hope editors understand the effect these sorts of articles likely have on readers.
