The fitness test stuff is irritating but ultimately I think it's just a sign of the times. We're kind of screwed anyway even if nothing happened to the fitness test requirements, because Americans are fat slobs and pathetically weak. I saw a news tweet once about the Army wringing its hands over incorporating fatcamp into bootcamp as well because the recruits they get are obese and frail. I suppose it's a question of scale, the Army et al. have always had to deal with fat people but if all of the wanna be soldiers are fat then it gets a lot harder to get them at an appropriate weight on a reasonable time scale that doesn't result in a medical injury.

You can restrict their calories but at the weight that some of these boys are packin' you would need close to a year of fatcamp to get them down to a healthy size. If you try to crash diet them from 400 pounds to 120 pounds in the space of 12 weeks, then that can't be healthy...

So if the pool that we're drawing from is that weak anyway then does it really matter?

This is an all-around favourable development in the long run for the bluehairs though, relying on an enemy culture (Borderers and Cavaliers to use Albion's Seed terminology) to be the backbone of your military means that you must keep the proverbial mask glued to your face.
