Neither of them is planning to use it to move into an actual apartment of their own.

If they somehow qualify for a Covid hardship (Matthew is on SSI for his knee, but that isn't a cvoid risk), they can't be kicked out until May 1. But in any case, their luck will run out in April when all the rules protecting tenets from having their heat, water and electricity turned off for the winter end. No electricity means no switch and no selfies, and no water means one of them actually has to haul ass down to the corner store for bottles of water least they die of thrist. They are not capable of remembering to do so.

I'm pressing for serious doubt. SSI isn't give to people for having a wonky knee (SSD is but that's based on work earnings) but it is given to people with mental impairments, which drug addiction and various mental illnesses qualify as. It is far easier to get SSI for being a drug addict than it is for having a physical impairment.

Guaranteed Lurch is getting SSI for being a hopeless junkie.
