The central problem is that the video clearly shows Chauvin was not actually kneeling on the neck, but the shoulder/upper back.

As for different chokes;
A) The autopsy showed zero trauma to the trachea, muscles of the neck, the hyoid bone, etc. There is no way to lethally restrict airflow by compressing the neck/throat without leaving obvious evidence.
B) While some super martial arts master may be able to perform a "blood choke" without leaving marks and bruises (there were none), there is no way to avoid causing petechial hemorrhaging, which was not found.

Floyd wasn't choked to death.




Again, he wasn't pinning via the neck, and that exact hold was chosen by the police for it's safety. He was following the training that was designed to protect himself and the suspect.

This is why I'm saying "bring in an expert". Me and the dude they just had on the stand probably have the same magnitude of knowledge on chokes: We've both used them, we both kinda know how they work, but neither of us know the science behind it. Yet we both came to exact opposite conclusions. Why do they have this guy on the stands talking about blood chokes, instead of a coroner who can say if the evidence of death via a blood choke was there?

Regardless of whether, or not Floyd was a bad person, and he most certainly was, the fact remains that even if Chauvin didn't kill him, he and the rest of the cops still majorly fucked up procedurally, and that's something that really should be addressed.

I don't get why Floyd not being a clean angel matters so much to so many people in this thread. Floyd's already served his time, it's not like he got off scot-free every other instance. Chauvin's a felony tax fraud, has had 26 misconduct reports and 5 additional bodies to his name on top of Floyd's with no consequence.

The world isn't black and white. Floyd's no angel, Chauvin's no angel. What matters now is that Chauvin's on trial and facing due process for his crimes, meanwhile Floyd never got the chance to. To Chauvin, Floyd was a rando, he had no way of knowing what Floyd could have possibly done in the past at that very moment he was choking him. Retroactive justification is ridiculous.

Yes, but it's the degree of rioting that's up for debate. There might be a few broken windows if Derek is given the maximum punishment, but absolute destruction if he's acquitted. There actually might be residual riots popping up years down the line, like if there's an upcoming parole meeting should he be found guilty.
