Are you sick and tired of seeing hats and cosmetics everywhere? Sick of how numerous and imbalanced all the weapons are? Are you bored from waiting for Valve's team to finally release new worthwhile updates? Do you long for the early days when TF2 was brand new? Have you ever wished you could play as a tenth class where you are almost completely defenseless and if you die the other team wins, pissing off your entire team? Wish you could actually play as a color other than red or blue?
Officially released today after years in development. TF2 Classic brings things back to basics. You're limited to stock equipment with a few new additional weapons that may or may not be tweaked a bit. Scout has a nail gun now, Soldier has a mortar, Demoman can now throw dynamite, ect.
See you guys and gals on the field. I'm gonna prep the barbecue.
But does it run better? The main reason I stopped playing was the game was running worse. I didn't have some super mega pc, but I could at least run the game. After a while, game wouldn't even hit 30fps on low. Big mood killer.

*shrug*
it ran great until one day it would just freeze once in a while
and it was impossible to play when it would freeze for several seconds
i went to different servers
i turned down the graphics
nothing worked. so i just stopped playing.
I'm interested, but I'm holding off for a week or two so any major security issues get fixed. As lets face it, there's going to be security issues with a project like this. It looks very promising though.
Supposedly they have some "arrangement with Valve" and the Discord mods were telling people that something good was about to happen. But that was over a month ago. Stopped playing when they set all the servers to their annoying Halloween mode.
Update to the previous post, since it seems this thread was forgotten: the mod teams heard nothing back from Valve and after a while they all brought their downloads back up. Valve wanted the teams to remove all leaked code from their projects in order to hopefully qualify to be on Steam proper, and for the teams to likely be granted a license, but sadly all the projects are 99.9% leaked code and 0.1% new code. Surprisingly, Valve did not Thanos all the mods out of existence when they brought their downloads back.
Yes. It's been around since 2014 and has gone through many hands in that time. It started out as a cobbled-together 2007 build that wasn't even called TF2Classic for the first couple weeks of its existence. Then someone came up with the name and it stuck. A week after the rename, some psycho eurofag came along with his own compiled copy of the 2008 source code leak, was recruited to the project, and that gave us the TF2Classic we have today after they tossed aside the cobbled-together 2007 build.
Sadly it's also been taken over by the troons. Most of the current dev team are troons. The only thing it has going for it now is the custom weapon thing. Knockout.chat has their custom weapons server with over 300 fucking dogshit weapons. And if you directly connect without externally downloading all the assets, connecting to their server will take you over an hour.
As for gamemodes in TF2C; Four Team is just a hectic mess of a gamemode. VIP is kinda okay. The current troon dev team is likely going to abandon that Overcharged mode they were working on based on VSH.
If anyone was aware of The Espionage Project, I thought that project was dead as hell. It's another group of modders unrelated to TF2C (although some members may be former TF2C contributors) who have taken that scrapped Espionage gamemode idea from early TF2C, and are trying to make it a reality. I thought it was dead and they had given up on it, but in October they dropped a teaser trailer:
I swear I recognize the map in that video as that one office themed deathmatch map from early TF2C. I guess these mod teams are either all sharing assets or they're stealing from each other.
On a somewhat related note, I'm working on a big timeline of TF2 mods ranging from 2014 to 2023, based on an existing timeline I found posted here by @Aurelianus (thank you Aurelianus ) which only ranged from 2016 to 2020.
I'm going to post it here when it's finished, but I can't say when that will be as I have to find information on several other TF2 mods that have cropped up, that hadn't been mentioned in the original timeline.
The original creator, 404UserNotFound/404UNF/TF2CutContent/"Tyler" logged a lot of the early TF2C history onto Wikipedia (archive) as a passive-aggressive method to get credit for founding the mod. TF2C started as a Facepunch mod before 8chan picked it up to play the betas.
They're the former Lambda Fortress modders. They rebranded themselves early October 2023 into CoaXioN (archive) as a unified place to talk about the mods they make rather than individual Discord servers. Still too early to figure out if they want to continue being a group of modders or to try and expand into the amateur game company LARP like TF2C/Eminoma and TDC/Compucolor Pictures are doing.
Correct. A lot of these mods while being technically separate from each other have a lot of code and assets borrowed, so it's possible this is just another beta era TF2C piece of content reworked into their own flavor. Both back in my original post and still today you can draw a fairly dense spiderweb of connections either of people or content between the various mods.
