Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

You forgot Taiwan and New Zealand are islands and both compared had radically strategies from each other. There's no historical precedent for our response to a virus. If anything it made things worse.

Said this before, saying it again. Before long, the US national response to the ChiCom Flu will be considered a Vietnam-War-level national fuckup.

Notable article. Looks like "they" are trying to pave the way for these fucking "vaccine passports". Fuck these assholes, fully.

Added: Here's the latest bullshit from the county I live in. I simply don't believe anything "they" say.

COUNTY'S CORONAVIRUS CASES DECLINE BUT TIER SCORE RISES

• Move to Orange Tier no longer possible next week?

New cases of coronavirus among Monterey County residents decreased 16 percent this week, according to the latest data from the county health department, with 140 new cases over the last seven days, down from 166 one week ago.

But the California Department of Public Health today increased Monterey County's official tier score to 4.4 from last week's 3.8. At first look, the 4.4 score would seem to rule out the county's move into the Orange Tier on April 7, since a score lower than 4.0 is required for three weeks in a row before a county's move into a lower tier can take effect.

But there's another possibility that could move Monterey County into the Orange Tier next week, because the Orange Tier's eligibility level will increase to 5.9 once 4 million vaccine doses have been administered in the state's hardest hit regions. As of today, the vaccination level in those areas stands at 3,457,809 doses, and it's rising by more than 60,000 doses a day. At that rate, the number of doses in the hardest-hit areas should each 4 million next week — possibly just in time to put Monterey County in the Orange Tier despite a tier score of 4.0 or higher. Complicated? You bet. But we will keep an eye on everything for you.(Not to worry. "They" will just move the goalposts to keep fucking over as many people as possible. Guaranteed. - JS)

These charts show the county's recent progress through the tiers and the county's rate of new infections over the last 30 days. Below, you can also find our charts and tables depicting the epidemic's progress in various parts of the county and on the Monterey Peninsula.

This week's decline in new cases is partly due to the increasing pace of vaccinations in the county, with residents receiving almost 30,000 doses of the various coronavirus vaccines over the past week, according to the CDPH, bringing the total of doses administered here to 167,343. In California, the number of doses administered is up to 17.6 million, while in the United States, 149 million shots have been given, according to the CDC.(But not to me. 🖕 - JS)

It was the increasing vaccination rates that led Gov. Gavin Newsom to announce last week that, effective April 1, everyone over 50 will be eligible to be inoculated. To check your eligibility and try to make an appointment (they're still in very high demand), please click here.(I'd rather play with my dong. - JS)

MONTEREY BAY AQUARIUM ANNOUNCES REOPENING

After being closed since March 13 last year, the Monterey Bay Aquarium said this morning it would reopen with a series of members-only events May 1 to May 14. For details, click here. (This makes me happy. Have a family member who works there. - JS)

Ah so you're a supporter of building a wall to keep out Mexico, I see. How else are you going to emulate having miles of water on your border to keep out the raving hordes of infected peasantry from the third world?

I need advice (again) :stress:
My parents just told me that they are going to take the Moderna vaccine tomorrow. I've already given my dad some resources ('tame' ones that are from mainstream new sources, including some history with how the rushed swine flu vaccine killed people than helping them) and he just responded with the typical "thanks, I'll look at it later". I don't really know what I can do, every fact I pull out falls into deaf ears, and they respond with me by saying "yeah but the """"experts"""" told us its safe, why would they lie? :)".
On one hand, I want to tell them: "fine go get the jab- if you faggots die within a month, I'll dab and piss on your graves" but on the other hand I want to physically go over there just to stop them.
I feel like I'm not doing enough- I'm always a 'live and let live' kind of person and I'm reluctant to sperg out and try to change others. I just don't understand why they aren't listening to the common sense out there and I don't know what the fuck to do. (:_( My parents mean a lot to me and I just can't let go that easy.
Do you Kiwis have any advice for my situation? I've never thought I would be in a situation like this.

Fuck the wall weak ass idea, you need to get the army to keep them out.

Don't be gay and prevent your parents from living how they want. If they want to take it? Let them. If there's some effect, it will happen years down the line. The issue becomes if they force you to take it. It doesn't sound like they're saying you have to take a jab or else you're banned from the family, which is good enough.

Respectfully declining to engage in a clinical trial of a vaccine? Great.
Consistently trying to push others who want a clinical trial of a vaccine to not get it? Gay shit.

Fuck the wall weak ass idea, you need to get the army to keep them out.
Well you may be a bootlicker but at least you're not a shit lib with immigration.

I'm not sure asking a website full of Autistic shit posting tards is the best place for advice

Also reminds me of the global warming deniers who have a handful of shitty peer reviewed studies many of them that aren't really peer reviewed to back them up vs 10000s of ones that say they wrong,

Come on dude, it's climate change now, do you want to be reminded that there's still snow on some mountain in a nigger country?

What? I'm not a trump fan.

But, Trump literally bashed Fauci 24/7 and removed him from having a final say on anything.

Also, Trump could not fire Fauci or Birx. There would of been another impeachment.
I don't remember that. His criticism wasn't nearly what it could've been. And the Democrats would impeach on literally anything. All Trump needed to do is say "this guy told Americans not to wear masks but now he says Americans should" and point to his countless failed predictions, and he'd have been gone last summer. It's theoretically non-partisan since Bathhouse Fauci endlessly flip-flopped which is bad when fighting a pandemic. If Democrats wanted to DOUBLE IMPEACH Donnie Drumpf back then, there would be enough votes to acquit and they'd take the same PR hit they did during the first 2020 impeachment and the 2021 double impeachment. Doing it in the middle of a "pandemic" when Trump has good reason to fire those hacks would probably hurt the downticket Democrats during the 2020 vote, rigged as it was.

And remember, the Trump administration could mess with federal funds to states who didn't go with the "best advice" to fight the pandemic right. Meaning California, Michigan, New York, etc. have to open up to get certain government money. The Biden administration can't do this because following their advice (lockdowns today, lockdowns tomorrow, lockdowns forever!) would tank state economies so states will ignore it.
Lol thanks for the laugh, love the lack of self awareness in your post, and forgetting counties like Taiwan and New Zealand that did get it under the control. Just the government in most counties is just as much of a lolcow as people here.
Because an island in the middle of nowhere that shuts down at the single sign of a virus that barely kills anyone is a "success". Meanwhile the metro area nearest to me with over a million people has like 150K cases and 2,000 deaths in all the counties combined (plus a confirmed case of inflating cases and deaths). Wow, what a scary pandemic that's absolutely worth closing businesses and forcing people to wear a mask that does nothing! We're over a year since we could contain the disease, now we just mitigate the disease.
Also reminds me of the global warming deniers who have a handful of shitty peer reviewed studies many of them that aren't really peer reviewed to back them up vs 10000s of ones that say they wrong, but whats funny is they don't have the balls to say they just don't give a fuck about global warming instead have to build up this troon level lie that they know is wrong.
To be fair, the Chinavirus doomer "science" made me more skeptical about climate change/global warming. I still know it exists and it's almost certainly caused by the industrial revolution and modern human activities pumping shit into the atmosphere (can't find any good arguments against it that don't repeat dumb shit oil industry shills have pushed), but I don't give two shits about the Paris Agreement or whatever bullshit the UN/globalists want to push because none of the governments can give any good way to control climate change. Yeah, dismantle nuclear power plants and replace it with inefficient solar plants (in cloudy-ass Northern Europe) which require natural gas to back them up.

And can't forget "carbon taxes" or the tax Mayor Transportation Secretary Buttgag or Bootyjudge or whoever he is wants to put on gas mileage. If climate change were truly the existential threat they say it is, we'd be taking insane measures like carpeting deserts with solar panels, building lots of dams (for pumped storage), and a massive expansion of nuclear power plants so we could make ecofriendly shit like electric cars work. Oh, can't forget dealing with all the diesel powered container ships that let us all consoom, those would have to be either solar or nuclear powered too and we'd make it work because it's a "climate emergency". But watch, the "climate emergency" will just be "climate lockdowns" us plebs have to suffer, since megacorporations and global banks won't have to pay anything other than the pittance they already do.

But anyway, prove the stats wrong on Kungflu deaths. It's barely anything in healthy people under 65 and even a lot of old ass people like my mid-80s grandmother with her blood pressure issues or the fat 70-something orange man formerly in the White House survive with barely any issue as long as they take vitamin D and zinc. Why should anyone treat this as anything but a bad flu season?
Said this before, saying it again. Before long, the US national response to the ChiCom Flu will be considered a Vietnam-War-level national fuckup.
This makes Vietnam look positively sane. At the rate we're going, this is to the United States what World War I was to Britain, Italy, or Germany and we better hope it isn't like what World War I was to Austria-Hungary or the Ottoman Empire.

When Ron DeSantis with his unscientific response in the early months and Kristi Noem are the best examples of leadership you can find, it's not looking good. Even if I wish my governor had the spine DeSantis does to shut down dumbass blue city mayors.

Time to vote this asshole out of office.

Added: some Reason articles.

Boo-fucking-hoo, Joe, you idiot.

Don't give a fuck what these turds say, STILL no intention of getting the vaccine. No trust.

Hilarious! Guess the Chinese didn't give him his monthly payment. What a fucking dickhead, no credibility.

Guess again, dumbass. Feds can't roll out any sort of national "passport". Personally, I don't go to sporting events, rarely went to restaurants. Shop on base or online. This shit has a tremendous amount of potential for abuse.

Extra, added attraction. I'll send in a sample if they agree to taste-test it. Would try to eat some corn first, as well. No, I no longer give a flying fuck about much of anything any more.

Well this is fun. *yawn*
Someone in one of the groups I'm in started a thread about "How many of us have been vaccinated?" and I asked why the hell I'd want to get vaccinated if I'd already had Der Coof and these are the responses I'm getting:
  • "There are new strains of the disease that you could still get sick from even if you've already had COVID. Think about it like influenza. There are new strains of influenza each year and new vaccines developed to help your body fight against those. It's also a good idea to get vaccinate for herd immunity."
  • "You're taking a chance between getting COVID again and having side effects of the vaccine. The side effects are quite mild in general and well-documented, whereas with COVID it varies widely and depends on the particular variant you get."
  • "If I had to choose (and I guess I am, as a pregnant woman to boot), I would definitely take the known side effects over the unknowns of having the virus."
  • "There's also the very practical nature of the vaccine passport, which may soon open up more activities for you to do, should you get vaccinated."

"What? People can become immune after getting a virus? That's a lie!"

These are the same people that say we must believe in science.
