Steve1989MREInfo / Steve1989 / Steve Thomas - that guy that eats old MREs

Been a long time since a new Steve...

Since I'm here with the turbo-stalkers of the Kiwifarms, I can trust one of you would notice if his death certificate happened to get posted, right?

Right?

(:_(
steve will be fine, given he's sampled food older than himself and survived food poisoning from an mre that wasn't even expired, I say there's a good chance he'll outlive us all

Rate me late if it's been posted already, but this note of his in a package to a fan is really endearing. And he draws a little duck as part of his signature.☺️

Speaking of Steve and of nice things, it would be interesting to see a Very Special Episode where he tries some of the modern civilian oddities that have been making their way around YouTube--hamburger or birthday cake in a can, for example.

We've all seen food/miscellaneous reviewers give them a go, but Steve has so much more perspective. He's the man who could critique the preservation of a canned currywurst, the manufacturers' recipe decisions, and whether he'd rather eat this or an 80-year-old ration, if someone had already removed the cigarettes.

Rather than oddities, a video with some recommendations for off-the-shelf canned or otherwise non-perishable foods that are suited to keep around (while consuming and buying new on a regular basis) for emergencies would be nice.

Tbh this forum could do with a bugout bag thread.

Not a bad idea. It should probably be a generalized pragmatic survival strategy thread though. If you live in the countryside, having a pre-planned understanding with neighbors is probably most important, while if you live in a city it's probably best to focus on having resources to survive a couple of weeks of water and/or power outage. Extra important if you live somewhere really warm - your elderly relatives won't survive unassisted without AC for long!

I finally caved and eBay'd some Coffee Instant Type 2, and let me tell you, Steve1989 did not exaggerate.

I'm not a fancy coffee person or a gourmet or supertaster or anything, but yeah, it's nice. Kind of a round, mellow flavor, not acidic or with that nasty stranded-in-a-waiting-room bitterness. It's an instant coffee that did not make me regret having to drink it.

The powder is a lot finer; I made the mistake of opening it over the steaming mug once and it clumped immediately, but dissolved again with stirring.

That texture might be the drawback, though. I hoard a fistful of instant coffee sachets in the back of the cupboard in case of power failure or baking, so I don't think I'd use bulk spray-dried coffee often enough before it solidified in the jar like a pu-erh cake.

Its the real deal and a shame they don't sell it commercially.
He also claims other milarities just use taster's choice. I keep instant for when i don't feel like/ have time for espresso or french press but taster's choice is also genuinely enjoyable.

Has there been any official word on the hiatus other than a dubious post from his "brother"?

My family is very concerned.

Steve's in landscaping; Spring is a busy time and I suspect he's out wrestling with a string trimmer IRL and too pooped to edit.

(Has anyone ever gone through trends in his uploading over time/relative to the time of year?)

I'm glad I'm not the only one concerned, I came here just to point out it's been 4 months since his last upload, and to ask if anyone knows anything, if he's okay, etc.

Working 60 hours a week is plausible, he may have been in a case like mine where COVID kiboshed alot of my usual work and now that it's coming back, he's getting all he can. Still, it would be sad if he's just tired of MREs. Or the hassle of filming him eating MREs.
