It's shocking how long some of these 600+ pounders can live like that. She's nearly 38 now; the clock's really ticking. She's had recurrent bouts of cellulitis and is extremely allergic to certain antibiotics, so I won't be surprised if that ends up being deadly for her, though there are dozens of ailments that could be fatal for someone in her condition.

I feel a lot of empathy for that doctor. Asking about mobility, living conditions and ability to work are all reasonable questions in assessing a patient. The mobility is really important for prognonsis- if obesity causes a patient to be bedridden they're essentially never getting up again. And asking about gastric surgery is perfectly reasonable for a doctor to do with a patient while they're still mobile, fairly young and in decent health other than the obesity, because she's still at a stage where she could have the surgery and regain her life, instead of progressing to where she's bedridden and pretty much out of options.

The doctor recognized a still fairly young person who was on a shitty slope to death and suggested an intervention that would save her. And he's right- the infections will keep happening to her unless she loses weight, and it's only a matter of time before one of them can't be managed with the limited range of antibiotics she can take and kills her.
It must be so frustrating to try to save a patient where there's an obvious problem that will kill them and being unable to get through. I picture it as being the same as trying to persuade a 38 year old patient with curable cancer to go on the chemo that will cure them while the patient wants to treat it only with sunshine, hugs and homeopathy.
Of course she took it as a personal insult which is why she's fucking doomed.

I've had cellulitis (from a spider bite) and the antibiotics they put you on is usually started at a max dosage. That shit makes you even sicker than the cellulitis itself.

If she's telling the truth about getting it often and being on so many antibiotics, her gut must be absolutely fucking wrecked. That disturbs me when I think about how unlikely it is that she can wipe her ass, given that the doctor suggests she loses at least four hundred goddamn pounds

There was some ancient writer (Maybe Aristotle, possibly Lucian, potentially Plato, I can't remember) who said that the curved part between a woman's breast and her armpit was one of the most beautiful parts of her body because is accentuated the curves and softness of her body. If you have wild reaction on antibiotics, you absolutely must prevent situations where you take them. It's not some gummy vitamins FFS. Antibiotics fuck you up, your gut, your pancreas, your liver - and those are at risk when you are a fucking land whale. Doctor clearly was a passionate person who wanted best for her. But she intended to slowly suicide herself.

I'm so confused and I need some seriously strong eye bleach.

The thing to take home from this is the entitled mindset more than anything else. Whenever things go wrong, the first thing she does is blame someone else. There is never a point in this entire screed where she takes responsibility for her own actions, and she repeatedly gets frustrated with doctors for pointing out that obesity causes health problems. It's always blaming the system (oh, if I lived in the UK I wouldn't have to pay), the doctors (these people only care about my appearance), their procedures (WLS has a ton of side effects), the antibiotics, etcetera.

There's obesity from just not eating right and moving enough. This is BMI 30 territory. People in this range, some of them are alright and can change. Some are just unable to get good food or exercise time.

Then there's super-morbid obesity. This is BMI 40 territory, and this almost always comes with an addictive, abusive, blame deflecting mindset. It is this mindset that allows for food addiction, and resists against the help of genuinely altruistic medical professionals attempting their hardest to help the seriously ill. In this range, there is no excuse.

Morbid obesity is an addiction, and the morbidly obese should be looked at like addicts.

I am shooketh. Its not the first time the dark sides of the Web have shown me eye bleachingly naked fatties but I think this I the first time I've seen someone where I couldn't actually identify their genitals.

Although the more i think about it the more I'm thinking I don't want to see it, it's gonna look like pulling apart a cheese toastie isn't it?. Or grilled cheese for the American readers.
