Its disturbing in a lot of ways, especially with this new age American Leftist Celebrity interpretation of "God" and "Jesus" to own the Cons, what you hear 99% of the time, when they aren't literally spitting on the Bible and talking about how Religion needs to be wholly eradicated root and stem, is that "God and Jesus are nothing but Compassion and Empathy!".
There was this segment on Trevor Noah's bullshit "Comedy" show recently where he was talking about the recent controversy where the Catholic church said they don't bless gay marriages or whatever, Trevor went on this tangent about how God is love and how God doesn't judge people or cast judgement on anyone actions and its not anyone's place as followers of God to interpret his will.
That's literally the ENTIRE point of God and Religion is to judge people and to cast judgement on the lives you lived as individuals. There is absolutely nowhere in the Bible if you believe it that implies God wanted us to be drug addled hedonistic niggers whose only goal is to attack those that judge us as we spend out lives hopping from vice to vice, leaving broken families and fatherless/motherless/homeless children in our wakes.

Old Testament God is wrath and vengeance against the unfaithful, while New Testament is Jesus is Love, God is Love... at least until the end times when Jesus comes back to wipe out evil once and for all.

In general BOTH sides tend to cherry pick, with the right focusing on the OT and the left the NT.

Also there is the notion among some atheists that religion and church exist because humanity are at it's heart, selfish and murderous and etc and that religion exists because humanity at it's core can't be trusted to 100% be good so we need some sort of moral framework religion provides to make sure we survive as a species and that church exists to re-enforce it for those who can't internalize the lessons.

Whether it was truly inspired by God, the Bible was written and retranslated thousands of times by men, but what Jesus taught was from the source so to speak. Despite accidental and intentional mistranslations, there's truth in the scriptures. If there was no punishment, there'd be no need for salvation, but if there was no mercy and love, there'd be no chance of salvation. That's my 100% personal belief on things, and I also believe I know nothing for a fact and won't know until my time comes. That's also the last of my religion talk.
