This thread was interesting because it resulted in a quick fix to this part of the site. The issue was quickly resolved and the text amended, so it now reads as follows:

And this is a very fascinating statistic. First, let's look at the fact that 94.5% of the people browsing Something Awful have accounts. Less than 6% of the site's visitors are just dropping by to look at something. Let's compare that to this site, as of this moment:

31% of this site's current traffic are actively logged in, by comparison. Many, many more are lurking without accounts or are browsing something interesting that they happened upon.
When looking at this we should also take note of another statistic. Something Awful shows 4,284 users browsing in the above screenshot taken minutes ago; this site shows 4,140 users browsing, also as of minutes ago. KF's traffic is somewhat inflated due to that it has a separate category for robots browsing, but I am fairly certain that SA's traffic is as well; SA just does not distinguish between the two.
Shortly put, the Kiwi Farms gets almost as much traffic as Something Awful at this point. And it probably gets more traffic a lot of the time. In terms of people visiting, the Kiwi Farms may be overtaking Something Awful.
This is a great post, and raises some interesting questions. I know from memory that SA users around 2015 used to be 12,000+ logged in or more at one time. I also believe (and could be wrong) that the user count in SA reflects *all accounts logged in* and not necessarily active. Someone told me at one point that SA doesn't distinguish an account actively browsing versus one which is not, since they honestly have no way of knowing that on their back end.
