So according to the slide that's up right now, it would have been AOK if Chauvin had said, "I'm about to use a neck restraint on you?"

And also, am I just stupid or would blocking the carotid (which demonstrably did not happen) trigger a feeling of not being able to breathe or would the subject just check out? The prosecution is not pushing a consistent narrative here.

Thanks for the link. If you look at the statistics with an asterisk next to it, and then go to the bottom of the page, it will tell you that this stat is based on 10 or less sample cases. Meanwhile, the actual rate of sexual assault on white women shown in these stats you linked are 74.9% from white men and 16.4% from black men. These stats make sense when you remember people almost always get raped by people they personally know, often people they were dating, and not by random strangers on the street.

Anyways based on these stats, people posted memes that show 100% of interracial rapes are black on white, with some even claiming most white women getting raped are being raped by black men. That just isn't true, and the stat that suggests 100% of the interracial rape is from one end is based on a stat that surveyed 10 or less cases.

Some here don't like it when I point this out, but people should look closely at the stats they're parroting.

No it wouldn't. That feeling only occurs when the body isn't exchanging CO2 well. If you breathe straight nitrogen, you don't feel as though you can't breathe even as you pass out from oxygen deprivation.

The "jury of your peers" concept comes from the very early era of jury theory. Prior to the concept of a jury even being a thing, the general social idea was you just got to take revenge on anyone who wronged you. Needless to say, this led to feuding, a particularly not-good social behavior where various clans would just war against each other incessantly, often as just an escalation of a trivial slight.

A "jury of your peers" in its initial creation, literally meant exactly that. Your jury would consist of people you knew, people who knew you, people who were familiar with the very events the trial is about. This is literally the opposite of what we have now. It would literally be the judgment of the community you lived in. Source: The Common Law by Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr.

Now, the concept means you get judged by a jury of people who hate your guts, and have admitted it, before the trial even started.

I've wondered about this a lot, imagine growing up seeing kids get lynched for smiling at white girls with no consequences, then seeing the whole country chimp out and burn down cities because some ape got hopped up and overdosed fighting the cops...
