Let's pretend for one moment that he does die before the election, just for the funsies. What happens then? Will the nomination revert to option number 2, aka Bernie Sanders? Or will his running mate automatically replace him just the way Vice-President is supposted to step in after the Big Man in the White House chokes on a piece of matzo? Does he even have a running mate yet?

Why won't a neo-liberal fucking retard follow through on this? Hrm...it truly is a mys...oh wait, its not. Its because the corporations the left worships doesn't want it legal.

NYC is already part of New York and would actually dilute its blueness if you spun it off into its own state. And the official line with DC statehood is that it's unfair for them to not be a state because of their special status giving them no actual representation in Congress. Never mind that their special status was intentionally designed that way.
So just give the city back to Maryland and have the actual DC be the National Mall and accompanying memorials.
D.C. was never meant to become a city anyway.

Why not just have a deep blue state split apart but make sure the part that splits isn't red enough?
I don't know if there's any states that are totally blue. It's usually mostly red counties with 1-3 densely packed, overwhelmingly blue cities. Hawaii maybe, but that's a tough argument to split up an island.

I believe DC wasn't intended to have statehood because it gives state politicians authorities over the residents, politicians included. Some of the original picks for the national capital were in states and they were concerned that the state party would use state laws to harass federal politicians from opposing parties. This made a lot of sense at the time considering dueling was still in vogue.

This will fail in the senate is my best guess.

I am trying to find out requirements to admit a state and closest thing I can find is that a 2/3 vote in the House and the Senate to admit a state.

Also the potential state itself needs a constitution and the voters of the potential state need to approve of joining.

Puerto Rico has been in limbo since the 1950s and they want to try to ram this shit in.

This cant be real. Why is Georgia such a fucking issue?!
Georgia got uppity

iirc PR is usually not-so-keen on statehood when it's been a real vote, as it puts them a lot deeper into payouts to the mainland with no particular benefit

This. In general any switch to statehood would require Puerto Rico to apply federal taxes (as a territory they avoid them) and receive federal aid according to the state apportionment formula. The latter would likely result in increased money going towards the island, but federal taxes would definitely hit the populace hard (thus explaining the previous referendum results).

lol if you think a few of the more moderate dems on the senate will vote yes on adding more justices to the SCOTUS, or any other similar fuckery with the courts for that matter
It would be as easy as claiming that not doing so is helping the GOP and by extension "Trumpian narratives". Brand any dem who votes against it a traitor and hint behind closed doors that the rioting might not pass over their McMansion the next time a black dude gets vented by the cops for being a thug.

They wouldn't be doing it if they didn't think they either had a way to get it done or that the ability to get it done was there somewhere just not found yet. I fucking loathe the word due to it's overuse of late but it really is cope to think that it's just fluff for the press, or a worthless gesture.

You're dramatically overestimating what the DNC is realistically capable of. If tactics like this actually worked, people like Manchin wouldn't have announced their open opposition to fucking with the filibuster.

Yeah? Well I'm not willing to put anything past them after the most recent election. And like I said, if they can find a way they will use it. You're supposing that they can't, I'm supposing that the fact they're doing it in the first place suggests they either know something we don't wrt the process or they have a plan and want to best work out how to implement it.

I'll just make a note of this post so in the coming months, if they do find something and stack the courts, I can say "I told you so" - even if it's small consolation for what that entails. For now we'll have to wait and see.

Well see what happens I guess, but I don't expect anything to come of this court stacking crap, and furthermore, even if it did it would just kick off a whole new era of both parties openly fucking with the SCOTUS.
