I wonder how better the Republicans would have been if Nixon and the GOP did not cuck and Nixon finished off his second term. Reagan and his types opposed Nixon and believed in confronting the Soviets head on unlike detente by Nixon. Sometimes I wonder if Nixon was the Trump of his era.
To win 49 states in re election and gain a greater share of the vote.
Just like Trump grew his voter base by an insane margin of new voters.
As for the Southern Strategy meme applied towards Nixon. Nixon lost the south in 1968 to a Dixiecrat and won the whole country except the shithole of Massholes in 1972.
Dems banking on the strategy of demoralization, full press all the way through 2024. Using media to drive narratives, using tech to silence opponents (thus making dissenting lurkers feel alone in their views), and pushing their agenda to please their own constituents enough to get them to show up back at the polls.
2022 will be a checkpoint for future evaluation. I suspect they would hope that this tactic works enough that they actually gain seats , and thus double down.
The big question is going to be if this full court press will have the effect of mobilizing the opposition. They wish for you to forget how close the margin of victory was for Biden in quite a few battleground states. Something like 74 million people voted for Trump. Which means they are either riding that train or they disagree so much with Dems that they did a spitevote.
The thing about people who love to virtue signal is that posting shit on Twitter, changing your avatar to something cringey... these things take the place of real change, because these peoppe feel their duty to society has been fulfilled simply by saying something. So there is a sort of culture of this lazy activism.
When you combine this with the fact that Trump is not running in 2022, you can see how this might not get a lot of their voters over to the polls. Not to mention with Biden at the helm, the pressure is on him and other dems to actually do all the shit they have been threatening the last 4 years. Their constituents want to see results.
We see this added pressure with all the different facets they are attacking. Proposing gun bills, Supreme Court packing, and pushing foreign conflicting intervebtion seems like they are throwing a thousand darts and hoping one will hit. Because it is hardly likely too many of these things will pass up when scrutinized by the present day Supreme Court. They need something to show for all the bitching and moaning, or else you are going to have the more radical leftists hop off the wagon.
So we see a demoralization focused on the right, and a campaign of darts to reward their own base with. If this does not work out, worst case scenario is that they will drive the narrative of "we tried"....
Yet they do not confront the thinge which may actually be a problem, such as any backlash. Though do expect to see more articles in the media addressing the weaknesses as we get nearer to 2022. These will do just enough that they encourage their voters to the polls, yet without the whole demoralization factor.
it will certainly be interesting to watch.
What bothers me about this trial is that we know the outcome that will occur. Regardless of the verdict. Riots will happen, because nothing is ever good enough.
They expect vengeance via the emotional reaction they have when looking at this case. But emotional reactions are subjective, completely different from person to person. Our issue is thus that they want subjective justice to be served. But that is not how justice works.
Can you imagine a system where the victim or parties with personal interests are allowed to decide the punishment for those who wronged them? How many different suggestions would you get? How would we ever measure justice as fair when everyone has a different measuring stick? What of those who have become monsters themselves in their journey to seeking their own vengeance, wishing for their perpetrator to be ripped apart beyond reason?
I get that this is a problem, that many black people in the US have a living fear of being killed by police - no thanks to the media. But burning shit down doesn't fix anything. Neither does making some average dude who died a martyr for your cause. Your fears are valid, but only to a degree, as fear is a subjective emotion, perceived differently by everyone. You can't expect other people to be able to feel your own emotions, but you can try to communicate. But as humans we must use words over actions - especially when those actions do harm to the more noble parts of your cause.
There is common ground to be found in any idea if you look hard enough. We must stop wasting our time on things we disagree about, and begin with the things we do agree about, working our way out.
