During slavery and shit they didn't really get to name their own children. Once slavery ended they started naming their children, usually giving them traditional American names.

At some point they began trying to reclaim their heritage by giving them non traditional names. Unfortunately most had no idea of their culture as they were separated from their actual African ancestors by multiple generations so they would end up giving their children names that sounded right but weren't actual names.

At this point it's done simply to give their kid a unique name that ends up hampering them in life. This is unfortunate as there are many great African names (Kwame, Ekon, Imani etc).
In college I had a friend I thought was named Porsche and I was like lol typical hood rat name but she wasn't a hood rat so I gave her props for that and later I realized her name was Portia, after the Shakespeare character in the Merchant of Venice.

Man did I feel dumb. And mean.

Taking the last name “X” always seemed pretty badass to me in theory, but in practice, it’s like Mall Ninja: Afro Edition.

The number of times I've seen the flipside of that, where someone names their kid Mercedes and they do it not because Mercedes is ACTUALLY A NAME (Mercedes was the name of Emil Jellinek's daughter, the Emil Jellinek who worked with Daimler and Maybach) but because of the car make, is high enough that it's an understandable, if regrettable mistake.

Affirmative action ruins everything it touches. It's not even a debate. By pure ideology it is implicit in causing trouble.
There ARE man-dyke Madame Trunchbull female cops out there that will make the average criminal shit their pants on sight but they're pretty rare.
There are definitely those female cops but there are also quite a few female cops that are feminine as hell but won't hesitate to take you to the pavement or put bullets in you (on purpose even). If I had to guess, I'd say most the female cops I've seen who are like that are either former athletes or veterans. None of them have been under 5'8".

This is some Klingon medicine right here.

"When one artery is blocked, other vessels take over!"

Yeah bullshit.
Well it's true that the human body can redirect blood flow when necessary. There are plenty of redundancies built in to your capillary system. Hell, in a pinch and given enough time, your body will make new vessels to redirect some flow. I personally know someone who, a year after getting a kidney transplant, had the new point of attachment on renal artery sprout a bunch of new little vessels! Mind you, he was on a medicine that promoted this kind of growth.
But redirecting 90% of blood flow directly from the heart with no surgical or medicinal intervention just because he had a clogged aorta? That's batshit insane. Regeneration like that would make him superhuman.

There is a whole litany of names, both English and otherwise, who were once popular and widespread, and now seem as if they've been invented on the spot, or picked by someone who wants to sound pretentious. There are also cases of names which simply have been monopolised. When was the last time a child has been named "Adolph", for example?

Why do they bring up how expensive these guys are? To impress the jury? 'This guy must be good, look at how expensive he is.'

It just hammers home that he is being paid to be there by one side.
I think it's for transparency purposes, to let the jury form their own opinions on whether or not the witness is credible, maybe?

Seems slimy and manipulative not to disclose their cost.

This new round of riots shows that this trial's outcome doesn't matter because the nogs will burn it regardless. hThis used to be a nice place to live *sigh*

I know I'm pretty late but i was moving all my stuff out. Minneapolis is coon city now.
imagine living somewhere where this has to be unironically asked on several different occasions

Wait, the defense is asking them to state it? And they think it's a good thing?
