Look, I understand why people feel bad while viewing the photo and video. I do not celebrate his death but I do not feel bad either. People have pointed out that this was a questionable shoot. I absolutely agree with them. Additionally, I can put myself in the shoes of that officer and understand given the conditions of that night, the call, and the suspect pulling a gun (to dispose of) how this shooting occurred.

I am not going to call myself the John Wick of guns but I have taken Gun 250 from Gun Site and understand the split second reaction needed when presented with a threat at night. But its not just my opinion that you should believe. Here is a laboratory controlled test on how soon an officer will stop shooting once presented with the stimuli.

In a report summarizing the research, Force Science Institute noted, “If an officer were to take [merely] 0.56 seconds to react to a stop-shooting signal, three to four [extra] rounds could be fired by the officer as an automatic sequence after the signal to stop had already occurred.

We see in the video and previous posts that the officer had about one second before the gun was pulled and the hands went up. The data already suggests it takes more that half a second to stop shooting when they realize the target is not a threat. With all the factors of the night, I just cannot bring myself to blame the officer or say the shooting was unjustified.

Perhaps that is my curse. That I am able to set aside emotions and come to a logical conclusion faster than most people. In fact, that is one of my personalities traits. I have a since lapsed EMT certification and have been responsible for the deaths of a few people due to PowerPoint presentations I made. In both fields, I excelled because I am able to put emotions to the side. Such it is with this incident.

I am not you. I cannot understand what you feel. But I ask that you remain objective. While this was a child, his social media history and his IRL actions do belie such innocence's. The child made the conscious choice to join a gang, embrace thug culture, associate himself with felons, be in possession of firearm illegally. and flee from cops.

The hard truth is that this child would have held you up at gunpoint if he was given the chance.

I understand that minors do stupid things and I would even oppose his execution if he killed you in a botched robbery. That is because I acknowledge that the brains of minors are underdeveloped.

But, that was not the case in this incident. The kid pulled a gun hoping to ditch it. The officer saw it and reacted within a split second. Again, all the evidence I know tells me this was a reasonable outcome given the circumstances.

Look, if you still think I am a monster and/or an asshole fine. I could have posted the generic, This is not a grave but the future you choose" meme but I think the dead kid deserved more than that. This might be my attempt at empathy as legitimately cannot bring myself to feel sorrow for his death.

I have been fortunate enough to travel around a significant part of the world. Chicago is still the worst city I have ever been to, and I live in a big midwestern city that is similar to it. It is the worst mix of douchey white yuppies and the most ghetto trash you'll ever see. It's a mix of the worst parts of American society. The suburbs in Chicago are gorgeous and full of money but I'm not talking about that. The city itself is a cesspool. I'm not kidding when I say Detroit and Cleveland are better. At least Detroit and Cleveland have some honor as true Rust Belt cities. But even those cities don't have the rampant homelessness and open drug dealing downtown like Chicago does.

I grew up in a hardcore union household that had a very successful parent who never forgot their roots, meaning they voted Dem because it was what was right, in their mind at least. That changed in 2016 when Trump ran and got even more serious in 2020. The Democrats have destroyed the Rust Belt cities. Chicago is completely gone unfortunately. But walk around a Rust Belt city and talk to anybody regardless of race or gender, they will tell you (or at least imply) the biggest problem is nobody has a real job. People don't really care about race or gender shit here like they do on the coasts. Then the DNC gives them false hope so they vote for them. In return they do nothing. It's why I hold them responsible for everything that goes on.

Has anyone else here read Peter Turchin? He’s a large scale systems historian who predicted a decade back that America was going to hit a bottleneck of crises starting in 2020 and continuing through the decade, very possibly leading to collapse. His view is that societies collapse when three factors come together:

1) elite overproduction - ruling class people reproduce too fast, either literally or by way of education, either way there are more Americans who believe that they deserve elite positions than there are chairs at the table. This leads to intraelite conflict, as they fight over status and the remaining good jobs. Eventually, many surplus elites become counterelites and ally with the plebes. Trump, IMO, was the first of many counterelite leaders. I’m starting to think that the woke religionists are really doing elite warfare. It’s a terrific grift for someone with a high progressive stack score who is otherwise shut out of elite positions. Right now they’re winning at alarming speeds of ideological capture, but if Turchin is right, it’s only a matter of time before a more disciplined version of Trump exploits the anger of normal people about this stuff and rides popular fury all the way to total government control, and/or Balkanization.

2) popular immiseration - it’s harder and harder to be an ordinary working person. Real wages have been flat for decades and you can’t assume you’ll do better than your parents anymore. Very few working class men can still support a family on one income. IMO blaming this sea change on mean feminists is really missing the mega point. The overpopulated elites need to suck more and more money out of the bottom 80% of the economy to keep themselves in the style to which they’d like to become accustomed. Feminism is a convenient scapegoat where you tell women that actually it’s empowering to put your baby in daycare at 6 weeks and go back to work. Anyway, the GOP is clearly starting to pivot toward positioning themselves as the party of the working class. Who can say if they’ll be successful sans Trump. But someone will rise who will speak directly to the anger of normal American men who want to work and provide and resent being told they aren’t allowed to protect their families against threats.

3) loss of faith in government institutions, culminating in a debt crisis where the full faith and credit of the United States means nothing.

It seems very likely to me that we’ll see outbreaks of actual racial violence (not the shrieking antifa accusation fake bullshit kind) within the year, accelerating as we head deeper into the 2020s. It also seems likely that some (media) elites are stoking racial tensions to keep working people from allying with each other and oiling the axles of their tumbrels. Or maybe it’s just an emergent property of a system where it pays better to be a talking head preaching fear and systemic racism. I can’t decide.

Either way, we should probably all leave the cities and learn to grow large quantities of potatoes.

Chicago has a gun violence problem that is getting worse each day. Other than local news, this goes largely unreported, if ever. Therefore, it doesn't get fixed. City corruption has turned this once beautiful city into a battlefield.

I'm not bashing on the kid too harshly, but think about the officer's position. Reported person with a weapon in an alleyway. Split second decisions could mean life or death. In CHICAGO. It's a thankless job with little support.
