I heard something about Lindsay apologizing to MovieBlob and I was like "oh shit, is this the first documented case of an actual MovieBob W?" so I came to look it up.

I gotta say, I'm actually kind of appalled. That was absolutely, unequivocally not an apology at all. It isn't even a standard non-apology like "I'm sorry you feel that way." or "I'm sorry, but let me explain" because while those two things usually suck and aren't what you should say, they at least have some kind of sentiment or pretense that suggests the person cares about you in the slightest. This, though? There's nothing here. Lindsay basically spends the entire section of the video say "I am completely right and 100% stand by everything I said and did, but people I don't like are using it against him so I'm putting out a token disavowal so that I don't look bad."

It's insulting and patronizing and even though I hate MovieBob's big fat guts, I still feel insulted for him. I'm glad he's too stupid to understand how backhanded and cynical this was, at least.

She missed the mark entirely with the Charlie's Angels review. The purpose and intent of the film and the show was campy cheesecake fun kick ass women getting shit done. Drew Barrymore said she specifically got the rights to make the films because she wanted more women action movies. The franchise isn't sexist at all. Every single angel in both tv and film that is hostage or whatever almost always gets free herself. Rarely are they saved by another. Her thinking she's so edgy and trying to be ironic with the burka shit makes no sense whatsoever and her "apology" makes no sense because.....you knew what you were doing.

Honestly I think it's dawned on me that Ellis has achieved a self-fulfilling prophecy of becoming the female Doug Walker.

1. Lindsay drags out her PBS co-host Princess Weeks to use as a shield. "See? Cancel culture hurt my QUEER POC FRIEND too!". Then she gets mad that someone gatekept Princess' queerness. Oh, like how you told Matilda that she wasn't bi, Lindsay? Like that?

2. What got Princess in trouble was some dumb shit about "fanshipping", which Lindsay process to mock as "pretend characters kissing pretendly"....says the woman who built her brand on obsessing about the sex lives of fictional characters like Starscream from Transformers.

3. The biggest hypocrisy? First she excuses her doubling down as "HOW CAN I BE EXPECTED TO KNOW HOW MANY OF THESE RESPONSES ARE VALID CRITICISM FROM ASIANS?" and in the next breath says "I'M TOTALLY SURE THAT ONLY WHITE NAZIS WERE JUST TRYING TO CANCEL MEEEEEEEEE!". So instead of admitting that many Asians truly felt her criticism was dumb, Lindsay tries to pretend that ONLY EBIL WHYTE NAZEES were behind her Twitter exile. I haven't bothered to watch the rest, but DIET NAZIS seems to be her excuse for everything. She even tries to backtrack on her dunking on MovieBlob by acting as if she didn't know that everyone was going to make a big deal out of it and that the majority of people who joined the dogpile were DIET NAZIS. LOLOLOL. Lindsay does not give a single fuck about Blob and was more than happy to feed him to the Twitter sharks. She's only "apologizing" now because she needs simps like him to White Knight for m'lady, as well as support her asinine "DIET NAZIS ARE TO BLAME, NOT ME!" excuse.

4. For a video that is supposed to be a serious analysis and apology, she sure does a lot of dismissive things like roll her eyes, make exaggerated sighs, and play with her hair. Some parts she even seems like she's had one too many sips of wine. Way to show how mature you're being about this, Lindsay.

5. Lindsay wasn't even fucking cancelled. Her book wasn't removed from Amazon. Her videos were not removed from YT. Her Patreon is still up and going strong. No one made her take down her Twitter other than her. Her other social media are operating. This all comes off as a privileged white woman buttmad that her dumb takes were called out by the very same rabid Twitter call-out culture she had a hand in, and then trying to shift the blame to DIET NAZIS instead of coming to the realization that the monster she built turned on her.

I think the main problem is that these cycles occur entirely online, in "communities" where we don't actually know these people. If you decide to stop being friends with someone or hold someone in your community accountable, you have to remember that you're still physically near them, and you have to confront the problem in a way that doesn't explode and harm you or others. People in real life have these misunderstandings and arguments all the time, but with "cancel culture" you also have a bunch of lazy angry people at your beck and call who have no personal investment in the drama, no interest in seeing the community itself prosper. There's nothing at stake, so there's nothing to lose by getting angry. In a real-world context, you have to be SMART and angry and try to be as tactful as you can, involve the right people who can best deal with the issue, and try to keep things around you running smoothly.

Lindsay really shouldn't care what anyone on the internet has to say, but with parasocial relationships, she pretends to 'care' about her audience, and her fans pretend to 'care' about her. There are no guardrails if one side starts hating the other because no one owes each other anything, even the basic neighborly comfort of keeping the noise down.
