TGWTG Nostalgia Chick / Lindsay Ellis / TheDudette - aka Hotdogs in face girl

her 'apology' is just two hours of her trying to hit as many progressive talking points as possible, in a desperate attempt to signal "LOOK I REALLY AM ONE OF YOU PLEASE STOP BEING MEAN TO ME"
whether it works or not is up to the mobs gut feeling, which usually follows the current mood of influential checkmarks, so if she grovels enough and gets the right influencers on her side then she'll get away with whatever
Pretty much. What a sad state of affairs 2021 internet is.

As someone said, this is the quintessential 'rules for thee but nor for me'. If anyone close to her had been in her shoes, she would be piling up for personal benefit. But if it's her? "CANCEL CULTURE IS POINTLESS U GUIZEE".
I marvel at the unparalleled genius of George Orwell, who almost a century ago knew so perfectly how these people are capable of unquestioningly and simultaneously accepting two dichotomous statements.

Watching her spend over an hour calling twitter garbage that feeds off drama and bitching about the left's propensity to eat its own, only to turn around and stress how the problem was actually those evil diet nazis, was hilarious. At times I thought she was about to fuck it all off and become an alt-right trad wife, only to remember it's Lindsey Ellis and she might as well just set her patreon bucks on fire.

It'd be nice, but Worldcon is already a shitshow with questions about whether some essay called "George RR Martin Can Fuck Off Into The Sun" getting a nomination violates their code of conduct.

No, I did not make any of that up, in case you were wondering how worthless the award Lindsay has been nominated for has become.

Shit like that is partly why I wager Ellis isn't safe.

Less thab 1250 people voted for the Hugos this year. After Martin got crucified for mispronouncing a name last year, none of the old guard want anything to do with Woke Worldcon anymore... even the true believer leftie white guys realize they don't have Game of Thrones money to fall back on if the mob comes for them.

So they are gonna be looking for targets, and given the HEAVY bent this year's Worldcon is putting on "people of color" what better than a bloated white feminist who probably committed the one cardinal sin of the Hugos, buying your way in? Epecially one in hot water for saying borderline rascist stuff?

'bout to crack open one of these and go bully some trans BIPOCs

This video is reminding me of Andrew Dobson's "Bingo" strip. He posted it to make fun of the fact that his detractors bring up the same points over and over again, but when he posted it he had a lot of genuine fans who had no idea about the ForeverPandering video or his history as CattyN, so they looked those things up and learnt what a shitty person Dobson was.

I wonder if this will have a similar effect. The rape rap was more than a decade ago so she probably has fans who weren't aware of it, same with some of the older stuff.

The most telling part of how fake her movie length apology is that she labeled the section where she talks about her own mistakes as "My List of Sins". It's such a blatant and sarcastic way to make any complaints against her seem petty and trivial. If she really wanted to apologize, the woke terminology would be something like "Owning up to my Mistakes".

I find the "Diet Nazi" label hilarious to no end
It's insane because you're either a nazi or you aren't. Trying to qualify it makes the term meaningless. Wtf makes someone a "diet" nazi? Does it mean you're right-wing but closer to the center? Does that mean all conversatives are "diet nazis"? I'm sure it sounded clever at first, but to everyone else it sounds ridiculous.

Maybe a Diet Nazi is like when your girlfriend counts how many snacks you had at a party?

Well what we have here lindsay responding to her "canceling" in form of a video no less

View attachment 2092291
No one trying to cancel her will be convinced by this, or indeed by anything she could possibly do, and people who aren't deeply, fundamentally pozzed (and are thus not trying to cancel her to begin with) don't need a fucking 2+ hour video to know that she did nothing wrong in her tweet.

She literally wasted days of her life that she can never have back creating a video for no one that nonetheless has a longer run time than the theatrical release of Star Wars: A New Hope.

I've always had the feeling that to be eligible for cancellation you have to have some level of clout in whatever community you're in to begin with.

Lupa fucking wishes she could be cancelled. That might actually draw people's eyes over to her instead of this "B-but what about me, you guys?" shit.

So I listened to the entire thing and can simply summarize it as Lindsay Ellis proclaiming, "Cancel thee, but not me." Or as once put by MovieBob, the creepy simp she mentions at the end, "No bad tactics, only bad targets."

Some thoughts that occurred to me through the video:
  • Though the social media outrage that has been attacking Lindsay sucks and is a product of cancel culture, it would be a misnomer to say that she was anywhere close to being "cancelled." She says so herself at points in the latter part of the video that her livelihood was never under threat, and the recent drama only blew up with many becoming aware of it because she escalated by deleting her Twitter account. I'd say that a major component to legit attempts at "cancellations" is the backing of media, and I don't believe there was a single news article written about Lindsay's Kaya tweet or subsequent Twitter deletion.
  • It's absurd for Lindsay to downplay her celebrity status to appear as a helpless nobody. Yes, this is an internet celebrity we're talking about, but she definitely has more power than she's giving credit to herself for, especially in comparison to victims in other instances of cancel culture that I'm sure she condones.
  • It's peculiar that Lindsay's explanation of Justine Sacco, victim of the first well-known instance of modern-day, social-media-fueled cancel culture, is meant to exemplify why "Twitter is garbage" with sympathy for Justine, but the amount of verbal downplaying Lindsay does regarding what Justine went through makes it seem like Lindsay honestly believes Justine deserved it. "So it's funny that she got fired, and... ImeanI'mnotgoingto... She had it bad for a while. And, like, I don't want to speculate on how exactly ruined her life was..."
  • Even in her explanation of her unpopular take on the Prince of Egypt, she's misleading on the events of the movie to suggest that it "functionally excuses the mass-slaughter of children." What's critically missing from what she shows (possibly by her intention) is that immediately after Moses "morosely peaces out", he breaks down weeping alone. She also overly simplifies the motivation of Ramses to being "such a stubborn jerk", ignoring his daddy issues and fear of being the "weak link" of his dynasty.
  • The text-interrupt video editing Lindsay does with her suicidal and rape stories is awful, coming off as smug, scandalous taunting of "I know something you don't know" that she gleefully pulls out to build emergency victim cred on rather than genuinely being traumatized.
  • "The Beast" is probably the best part of Lindsay's video, the closest she comes to recognizing and acknowledging the awfulness of the culture of fear she and her like have fostered. Unfortunately, her takeaway appears to be that the culture is only bad because it attacked her and her friends, encouraging it otherwise.
  • I remain skeptical of how committed Lindsay will be in her vow to lay off Twitter.
Lastly, I want to elaborate on this "truly heinous" tweet by AR Governor Mike Hukabee that Lindsay whips out the end for no good reason:

So after an hour and a half of complaining about "bad faith" and assumptions of the worst out of things she's said in the past, she exhibits those traits herself in order to attack someone she sees as an acceptable target. If you actually have the thought to consider what Huckabee is talking about, it's easy to see that he's trying to express three points by this one tweet: (a) the notion of "identifying" as something you're not is ridiculous, (b) China, the authoritarian nation controlled by the Chinese Communist Party, sucks, and (c) Coke, Delta, and MLB suck for overtly acting against Republican states while simultaneously attempting to curry favor with China. Lindsay can go ahead and lambast the tweet for being opposed to identity politics, but to cite it as encouragement of anti-Asian hate crimes is a gross misinterpretation of both Huckabee's message and where the exactly the hate crimes have been coming from.

Some general rules for making a good apology video:

* Short and sweet: get in, get out. Don't waste time prolonging the awkward and uncomfortable nature of it all.
* Don't spend your time rationalizing, qualifying or downplaying what you're apologizing for. That's not the point of an apology. If you're actually in the right, don't apologize.
* Don't make yourself out to be a victim or a Maytr. Don't overplay your suffering, don't self-flagellate or make it seem like you're the primary victim.
* Don't use the apology video as a way to garner attention or generate buzz.
* If possible, don't make an apology video at all.

Looking at Lindsay maybe it's her husband walking around the house asking questions like

Do you really need seconds?

Didn't you just eat?

Want to go for a walk?

Have you thought about joining a gym?

How the hell do you have "baby weight" when you aborted it?
