I hold the viewpoint (that I reached after first encountering Blobbo's retarded beliefs) that intelligence is essentially a force multiplier on the amount of good or harm one can do on society. A smart person is more capable of rising to a higher level of power or influence, and their actions can thus affect more people, in either a positive or negative way. Conversely, a dumber person likely won't be able to reach the same levels as those of greater intelligence, so their impact is lessened, for better or worse.

No one would care about Luke if he'd come home from Ben Kenobi's to find his Uncle and Aunt captured instead of killed, and Luke wound up swapping the droids in exchange for their freedom and then Luke went back to moisture farming until he could join the academy and become a pilot for the Empire. Because if fictional Empires acted reasonably and logically the way most governments tend to do to an extent, then it would make for a messy, boring story. It would also be hard to create a story where a small, plucky band of rebels were able to bring down an evil government through a single, decisive action, because most real life totalitarian governments fall through a long, drawn out series of events caused by large, disparate groups acting independently of each other.

So yeah, only morons would base their ideas about how Real Life wars and weapons work on fictional examples.
