Do you mean a hung jury? Pretty sure whether something qualifies as a mistrial is up to the judge.

At any rate, they dismissed the jury to deliberate just before 5PM EST. For a high-profile murder trial, I think it would take a lot more than 2 hours before we'd be seriously speculating about a hung jury.

I bet what's really going to take most of the time here is coming to a verdict on the 2nd Degree Murder charge. I don't think the defense showed beyond a reasonable doubt that Chauvin's actions didn't at least contribute to Floyd's death, and if the jury feels the same way, then the 3rd Degree and lower charges won't take that long to resolve.

I don't think they will come to a consensus. Like timmy tat the pool man said. It is really logical for them to just hang the jury. It avoids the hard choice, no one will know who was on what side. Its the safest best option IMO for everyone. Hopefully it will have the anger and vitriol refocus onto the state and how its ultimately the states fault more than any one individual. Fuck the system and it always pinning the failures of itself on the individuals subjugated by it.

I just realized. Maxine Waters said she thought Chauvin was guilty of murder "in the first degree". Chauvin isn't being charged with that.

I just realized the BLM angle. Even if Chauvin is found guilty on all three counts, that still won't be good enough.

I mean, it would never be good enough anyway, but that will be the BLM spin at least.

if he's guilty of manslaughter, they'll say he should've gotten 3rd degree murder and riot. if he's guilty of 3rd or 2nd, they'll say he should've gotten 1st and riot. if he's guilty of 1st degree murder, they'll say he should have gotten the death penalty and riot. if he gets the death penalty, then they'll say he should be executed tomorrow instead of years from now and riot.
