Reading your comment is the first time I've actually put serious though into their name. It only just hit me how much a misnomer Breadtube is. It may as well be added that to the list of ironies Kropotkin has suffered in the fullness of time. Even a group that claims to take up his mantle instead argues in favor of everything he feared and warned against. For anyone who hasn't read Conquest of Bread, here's how Kropotkin envisions his utopia: "Inspired by a new daring — thanks to the sentiment of solidarity — all will march together to the conquest of the high joys of knowledge and artistic creation. A society thus inspired will fear neither dissensions within nor enemies without." The poor guy is probably spinning in his grave given how much Breadtube have sown division and encouraged cancel culture all while using his work as their branding.
Its kind of sad. Personally I think Kropotkin's utopian vision is completely unworkable; Engels' argument in "On Authority" becomes more unassailable with every technological and societal development. At the same time though, most of his ideas are positive aspirations if nothing else and the others are at worst benign. A lefty YouTube group dedicated to fostering community, resisting authoritarianism, and helping people better realize their potential would be breath of fresh air nowadays. Instead we have Breadtube.
