I was expecting just manslaughter but apparently the jury thought he’d gone way beyond the reasonable force before medical aid should have been provided.

If that’s their rationale I can buy it. You cross the line of reasonable force then there is no excuse an officer can use for their actions.

You can tell with how calm and compliant he is they're doing something behind the scenes. He's gonna be sentenced, he's gonna "die in custody", no funeral will be held to prevent the chance of rioting, his family will leave the state due to tension, and in actuality he's going to some remote corner of Maine to live under a new identity.

Normally I would say he's got a good chance for an appeal but considering the circumstances I don't think that he can make it happen.
I don't know much about the american court system but isn't his case so fucked up that he can't hope to get a jury of unbiased people to judge him? And even if he would get such a jury wouldn't it be still impossible for them to give a fair trail for fear of retribution from the mob? Has there ever been such a case where there is no hope for a fair trail in the american court system? I'm quite curious about the proceedings.

I don't blame the jury, the social pressure to convict is immense. I don't doubt that they would become instant social pariahs if they aquited on anything.

Pretty much. I can see where the jury's coming from. And hell, it's not even like they'd just piss off the mob. They know damn well the government's on the prosecution's side. Anyone disappointed in this should look on the bright side, police that would happily stand back and watch you be beaten by rioters so that they could protect their jobs/pensions (which would be in jeopardy if they arrested them) will now have to walk on eggshells with even the most insane criminals to avoid getting locked up for not licking the boots of their nog overlords.

You'll start seeing lots more stories like this one where the cops act too nice and get capped for their trouble.

Shit starts going sideways about 14 minutes into the video, but as you can see the cops here were way too nice and lenient and the suspect wasn't even black in this instance, with black suspects it may get even worse.
