Diseased #Comicsgate - The Culture Wars Hit The Funny Books!

Speaking of McCheese, have you guys seen his alter ego Mecha McSleeze?
mechamcsleeze.png

He did at first when it launched in December but between refusing to appear, and launching Rock N Roll Ninja in the middle of the night while telling no one, Frog's shilling became tinged with increasing exasperation with Zack. With the sacred cow not quite so sacred, the audience is growing considerably more hostile with Zack, what with the refusal to interact to what were fans along with the approaching year long delay with multiple crowdfunds. And it's not like there's a shortage of other things that could be promoted instead of this:

Folding on the lawsuit that made him is what sunk Zack. There's no recovering from that.

Now he's giving updates about teaching himself fulfillment out of "his friends' spare room" only now, six months after the original delivery date
Wait, wasn't this half his content a year and a half ago? (Maybe even longer?) I distinctly remember videos about postage machines, envelopes and how cool it was he didn't have to stand in line with the hoi polloi at the post office when he went mail out books and get breakfast burritos. Plus the whole business of how much cheaper it is to mail stuff in the USA classed as books alone vs. books when you had gee gaws like keychains or whatever included. That topic alone seemed like it went on for weeks.

In sum, I thought he ultimately concluded he had this shit figured out, if nothing else. Eighteen months or so ago, after his first campaigns. Or am I just hallucinating this?

Edit:

Folding on the lawsuit that made him is what sunk Zack. There's no recovering from that.
I honestly understood that, and I think most felt the same.

What I cannot get past is how tedious his channel has become. I'm not pissed at him, I'm bored with him. That and his latest books objectively all look like crap does not help much.

Zack's problem isn't getting the book made on time. I strongly suspect the books were finished by the original deadline back in October; the issue is that he has been stuck in a protracted contract dispute with his secret fulfillment company until last month. Now he's giving updates about teaching himself fulfillment out of "his friends' spare room" only now, six months after the original delivery date. How many orders are waiting on shipment? Only 8683? Sounds like a recipe for success.

Meyer explains the situation himself here, but it's overshadowed by his "pretending to be retarded" 'go pills' bit.

Well, maybe I just want Zack to do things the way I'm doing them all the time, because it's working pretty well for me. If I'm exasperated, it's because Zack will always go his own way and do things the way he wants to do them, which usually isn't what other people want from him.

He knows he's wrong for having 4 campaigns pile up, and he's trying to fulfill them one at a time. Even then, when I tell him to start with the latest one, he wants to start with the easiest one, in order to get the hang of it. Is that going to irritate his customers? Yes, a little. But he's going to do it his way.

My advice to him is to livestream again and focus entirely on JAWBREAKERS as his #1 franchise. The answer is a fast NO on livestreaming and sure, more JawBreakers, but he's also got all of these other ideas that he needs to get out, and maybe he'll release them as back up stories...? Anyhow, Ethan, watch this video on investing and also, HBO's GIRLS is a really good show, and I only really watch fitness videos now...

OK, dude.

The reality is, Zack is focused on a life outside of comics. He doesn't want to be a comics mogul with his own IP. He wants to do whatever he wants to do, and that's just how it's going to be. I owe him a lot, because he focused my life at a moment of chaos and helped me figure out what to do post-cancellation. So fuck it, let Zack be Zack. I told him whatever he needed from me in terms of getting his stuff fulfilled, he's got it.

Sounds like he wants you to be his friend at a time when he needs one. He's watching his shining star turn into an inescapable black hole.

Just caught up on the stream from the other night on Malin's channel. Damn, the Shane v. Cecil civil war is something else. You can tell Shane just fucking hates him at this point. It's pretty crazy how Cecil turned a respected artist into the CG whipping boy almost as soon as he showed up. I'll agree that Shane is insanely dull unless he's had a couple of drinks (and only a couple, as he becomes a belligerent creep when he has too much), but Cecil should probably read the room a bit better and figure out when to call it quits. He's also not nearly as funny as he used to be. It's basically just some gay impression every couple of minutes now. Oxmaul needs to be retired completely. He's gotten almost a year of mileage out of that bit. It's very old and tired.

Our own @NasserRabadi13's relaunch of Secret Comics Presents was successfully funded and extended for an additional month. Nasser's previous launch of the book failed to fund raising $3,105 from 143 backers, the current relaunch has raised $5,211 from 200 backers. The book features art from former Spawn artist Jason Robinson and is Nasser's best looking book yet, congratulations on getting funded Nasser. 🥳

An update from Donal / @Fathead which will come to no shock to anyone here reveals that the Brutas money may have been spent after all. In the update Donal tells his backers that he's been hired to do a short story from which the money will be used to fulfill the remaining 189 domestic orders and all international orders.

donalupdate.PNG

While I've recently been spotlighting overdue and bad creators, our next entry is an example of a creator who does everything right and deserves a shout out. Matt Crott's recently launched a new crowdfunding campaign for a 44 page book and 12 page ashcan combo called Wild Tales of Kyrie. The campaign offers both books for an affordable $15 or a $7 digital offering and also has a tier of his previous two graphic novels Kyrie: The Curse of the Macedonian Scroll and Kyrie 2: Exiles in Wasteland. The two previous entries of Kyrie are available for $35 and offer a staggering 280 pages of content making them one of the best value for money campaigns around. The books feature fantastic art, beautiful coloring and offer stories set in the Roman era as opposed to modern cliché cape stories. Kyrie was recently praised by Comicsgate comic reviewer Inch Guy Comic Guy as the best written comic book in Comicsgate and Matt Crotts joined DA Talks and @VIkkiVerse to talk about the campaign, which will be featured in our Youtube section below.

kyrie.PNG

While I'm cautious about actually recommending Comicsgate books to back, rather just reporting on them, I feel like Kyrie deserves a solid recommendation. The art, coloring and writing have all been praised and Matt has a history of on time fulfillment with multiple projects.

FROM THE TWITTERVERSE
As previously reported on by @9th legion centurion 002 a fair bit of drama occurred between Piper and several members of Warcampaign. The offenders accused Piper of being a former porn actress and possibly being a MAP (Minor Attracted Person). Warcampaign has recently gone on a crusade to "expose and root out the pedos in CG" after the recent revelations about Slick Jimmy. The back and forth escalated with leaked DMs, quote tweets and digging up past tweets until Piper blocked the accounts that were involved.

Our very own @FROG recently put out a series of tweets updating Comicsgate on the current work happening within ALL CAPS comics. These series of tweets included an update on industry veteran Dale Keown working on "Red Exterminations" cover, a recent page of art by EJ Morges from his side story on Rekt Planet and the addition of manga artist Jose Garcia to the livestream DM group. Garcia himself was recently recruited by ALL CAPS comics to work on a manga version of Cyberfrog which will presumably be an add-on during the third installment's campaign.

FROM YOUTUBE
Matt Crotts the creator, writer and colorist on the Kyrie series joined DA Talks and @VIkkiVerse to talk about his latest crowdfunded offering. During the stream Matt talked about his European comic influences and they discussed the obstacles facing smaller creators during crowdfunding in 2021.

Earlier in the week the dynamic duo did their weekly CGDG stream going over the Slick Jimmy scandal and offered a rebuke to Preston Poulter's claims that "Slick Jimmy was a beloved Comicsgate creator" when he was more associated with Anti-CG. These rebukes included Slick Jimmy's associations to other anti-CG figures, his artist Whiskey Paint working for Preston on various variant covers and Slick Jimmy being a member of Preston's anti-CG DM groups on twitter.

The Comic Book Hut, who had previously gone quiet on his main channel, continues to produce CG related content on his Patriot Hut channel. Those who are self confessed connoisseurs of the Huts videos can catch up on his antics which include his latest video claiming Frog admits to being a gate keeper.

Well Read Reviews returned to stream a review of Doug TenNapel's Bigfoot Bill 1 and 2. The verdict appears positive except the books are clearly aimed at children, DA Talks appeared as a special guest reviewer.

Perch goes over the allegations that comic book shops are both doing great and poorly, depending on who you listen to.

Our final video comes from Robert Romano who is the owner of the comicsgate.org / creatorGO websites. In the video Robert announces that Ethan / @FROG is currently disputing Preston Poulter's trademark of the term Comicsgate. In the video Robert references Preston's plot to use the CG Trademark to deplatform Comicsgate creators which was exposed by former Preston associates DA Talks and @VIkkiVerse, Robert is optimistic about Frog's superior claim to the trademark and informs the audience that an attorney has already filed the necessary paperwork.

That's our news for this week, which unintentionally turned very Preston focused towards the end. I feel like the large stories here were Preston's attempts to paint Slick Jimmy as a Comicsgater despite the fact he was more involved with Preston's faction at the time of his arrest, something which Preston neglects to mention in his smear piece video. The other big news is that Frog is contesting Preston's rights to the Comicsgate Trademark and it appears a legal challenge has been mounted. Other than those two stories it's been another relatively quiet week in Comicsgate aside from Warcampaigns brief skirmish against Piper on twitter.

While the focus is back on the Comicsgate trademark dispute, I would kindly ask @FROG to clarify for the Kiwi News Service and offer an official comment for the kiwi record?

As always take care and stay safe out there. :bluelabel:

I've always held the common law trademark to "ComicsGate," being the first person to use it in commerce through my ComicsGate Live YouTube show. I've since made apparel with "ComicsGate" on it.

I wouldn't have bothered registering it, but it seems as though some bad actors fraudulently filed for it, and their purpose is obviously to hurt people who are sincere in their love of the popular view of what ComicsGate stands for. A trademark attorney wrote up a ten page opinion on why I am the holder of the trademark, and should be able to register it officially, and this attorney asked if I'd like him to pursue it on my behalf.

I decided to go ahead and assert my claim to it, officially, only to defend it from those people who manifestly have malicious and ill intent. I will legally defend it from those people, and license it openly to anyone who believes that SJWs shouldn't be ruining comics, and that customer service should be a priority in the comics business.

I know this will be read as controversial by people who already dislike me, but I think the course of events are pretty plain here, and I feel justified.

Thanks so much!

@FROG did donal accept your offer for Cool Story Bro?
Yes, Donal drew a 7 page story for me at a decent page rate. He told me he would use the money to pay bills and finish fulfilling BRUTAS, which means exactly what you might infer from that.

He's broke. He has no BRUTAS money for you.

In my opinion, Zack is a better comic critic/cheerleader than anything else. Comic fans were drawn to him because he was the first to clearly articulate what everyone was disgusted with in the industry, and he got loads of attention for it.

Guys like Doug Ernst and Capn Cummings may had been pointing all this out before Zack, but their videos were boring. Zack was able to do it while being genuinely funny, snarky, and actually kinda wholesome. That's why everyone kept coming back to watch.

I agree with you, he should livestream. A lot, like you. And Jawbreakers should have been his main focus if he was going to do books. But, if he doesn't have the stomach for it that's his business.

Really looking forward to my executive box of Rekt. Planning to sit it next to my absolute editions of Alan Moore's Swamp Thing.

Sounds like he wants you to be his friend at a time when he needs one. He's watching his shining star turn into an inescapable black hole.
Zach doesn't need a friend right now, he needs someone who cares for him and knows what they're doing to give him a kick in the ass because he's flailing and won't listen to anyone but himself.

Boi Zach always does a token plug for his books at the beginning/end of his vids. Every time I hear him say 499 Graphic Novel, I think he's saying one of his campaigns is $4.99. His promotion is very oh and by the way. People who listen to his vids as background noise from time to time (like I) will not really know what his projects are.
499 sounds to me like Starship troopers meets an 80's slasher, but he fails to say that.

And hard pass on Zack livestreaming. He is barely coherent on his 10 minute videos (his latest one about the Karens at Marvel felt like a return of today Zack to hits roots and loved it and I just wait for JSG to do his own version) and a livestream would be too rambly and boomerish with barely satisfying interaction.

Thank you for stepping into the old damien role in this thread. I always enjoyed these types of "roundup" posts and your work gathering it is much appreciated.

I know this will be read as controversial by people who already dislike me, but I think the course of events are pretty plain here, and I feel justified.
I don't think it's really all that controversial, it makes perfect sense to me given the alternative. I only loosely followed the Comicsgate Trademark drama because I thought it was stupid, from what I gathered it was a cheap and ineffective troll by Preston. What first began as a troll quickly morphed into a marketing ploy by attempting to slap his CG TM logo on books he agreed to certify as "Comicsgate TM" which always struck me as odd, since Preston's desired market hates Comicsgate and no Comicsgate customer would be fooled into backing his Comicsgate™ books. It doesn't surprise me that his real goal was an underhanded attempt to weaponize the trademark to deplatform Comicsgate creators from Youtube and Indiegogo. In Robert's video Preston pretty much threatens him that his comicsgate.org website will have to rename and rebrand, in addition to the leaked screenshots by DA Talks and Vikki of Preston admitting it in DM groups and his discord.

Securing the trademark I think was a wise move on your part, given what we know about Preston's true motives now behind attempting to co-opt it.
100%. The first two Kyrie books are beautifully crafted and well written. Matt deserves to be successful. Definitely a recommend from me.
That settles it, I may actually have to back this one myself. I admit I'm intrigued by the historical period in which it's set, it's refreshing to have a book that isn't just another generic superhero comic.

I think it's a huge mistake to keep giving Donal work, he needs blackballed from CG for being a disgusting cuckold and ripoff piece of shit. He makes CG look bad. The type of behavior he displayed towards Nasser & the Brutus backers should never be rewarded.

The thing about Donal is that he's a workhorse. That is his saving grace and the reason he'll be kept around. Superstar covers are nice, but someone has to draw the shit inside. And people like EVS and Malin are only drawing their own stuff. After the Brutus fiasco he should just realize that his value is in cranking out material for others - i.e. CG up and comers or people like Cecil.

He'd be more valuable as a workhorse if he wasn't so damn lazy.

I could be wrong, but I heard he just finished the pencils for Cash Grab recently. That project should have delivered by now, but Donal's lazy ass only just finished PENCILING it. I doubt it ever sees the light of day.

Donal acts as an anchor on whatever project he's tethered too and taints it. Artists like Donal Delay are a dime a dozen and hungrier, more competent ones can be found all over if one truly seeks them out.

He should stop being given handouts and propped up and allowed to sink or swim on his own. Let us see what a Brutus 2 campaign or another original Donal Delay comic would bring in.

According to Cecil he didn't even finish the script until after the campaign's estimated delivery date.
