Most LEOs have M4 carbines they got for free from the federal government. Post 9/11 there was a lot of military equipment that started filtering down to the cops, although that recently stopped. LEOs can buy whatever they want, though.

No and probably not.

They don't have to only use department-issued weapons. They can use their personal sidearms as long as they are approved by their department.

It's very very unlikely a department would ever approve a full auto gun as a side arm for anyone outside a tactical unit. It's mostly designed for people who are just really really good or comfortable with a pistol that isn't the departments standard issue.

At least that's what the cop who taught my high school law enforcement elective in 2006 told me.

They're trying to rewrite the incident that happened in Ohio ("oh the girl with the knife was DEFENDING herself and yet the cop killed her, I thought we were allowed to defend ourselves" even though the crazy sheboon attacked the girl in pink AFTER the cop yelled to drop the weapon).

Also, what the fuck is with people going "he should have used his taser, he didn't have to use a gun"? From what I know -which granted, isn't much- having an armed assailant lunge at someone with a weapon with the intent to do harm to them has escalated the event past the point where a taser would actually do something useful in the situation.

The first mistake was thinking truck drivers pay attention. I've seen so many that are oblivious just like this guy. The second mistake was hopping in the trailer.

Should have just fine nothing at all. Pretty racist of him to assume it was a real knife and not rubber. This case really needed a counselor on site
