New Pokemon snap apparently has "upwards of 200 Pokemon" in it. So, between 200 and 250 Pokemon.I'm still planning on grabbing the Snap remake. I will admit I am a nostalgia whore and that may be driving my purchase. Still remember the days of taking your game to that kiosk at Blockbuster to print your photos even if they were ass in the hands of a kid.
My question is where the fuck were those graphics for SwSh?
Moreover, Animations are, effectively, core gameplay in snap. They don't have to worry about game mechanics or balance or anything like that,t they can put way more of their budget into animation.
I think the Pokemon 3D animations would definitely benefit from a full revamp, I just don't know if that's remotely feasible with nearly a thousand models to remake. It'd take years, and people might still not be satisfied with the end results.
At it's core, the problem is that Pokemon is unique among monster games (including games like Monster Hunter and Digimon) for a couple of reasons:
1: All Mons are expected to be in each game successively, so people can carry them from one game to another. I really can't stress how unique this is as a feature, literally no other game EVER does this to this scale.
2: All mons are supposed to be very distinct from each other, to the point of having different models, skeletons, and animations.
These are conditions no other successful mon game follows. Monster hunter peaked at about 130 distinct monsters total, then DRASTICALLY cut back for the HD games so far. And even then, the games reuse animations heavily for monster attacks, the infamous Hip Check being a key example. Digimon cybersleuth released with less mons than Gold and Silver had, at 249, and the 92 Extra mons that come from Hackers Memory doesn't come close to Hoenn's base 386. Pokemon literally can't do either of those things to make reworking the models easier. If the roster gets cut to the point where you could reasonably make HD models of all the mons, the fans'd throw a fit about it. And Pokemon have such distinct designs that you can't just port models from one monster to another.
idk if that's a good measure either, Kiwis can be very determined to shit on something once they've made up their minds about it. See: All the people who flipped from calling Game Freak idiots to moaning about the very concept of Game Freak outsourcing Pokemon games at all.Probably should have specified that if the general consensus in the thread for the remake is negative then I'll start the profile changing.
