Pokémon (Not-So) Griefing Thread - Scarlet and Violet Released with 10 Million Copies in First 3 Days in Buggy States

I'm still planning on grabbing the Snap remake. I will admit I am a nostalgia whore and that may be driving my purchase. Still remember the days of taking your game to that kiosk at Blockbuster to print your photos even if they were ass in the hands of a kid.

My question is where the fuck were those graphics for SwSh?
New Pokemon snap apparently has "upwards of 200 Pokemon" in it. So, between 200 and 250 Pokemon.

Moreover, Animations are, effectively, core gameplay in snap. They don't have to worry about game mechanics or balance or anything like that,t they can put way more of their budget into animation.

I think the Pokemon 3D animations would definitely benefit from a full revamp, I just don't know if that's remotely feasible with nearly a thousand models to remake. It'd take years, and people might still not be satisfied with the end results.

At it's core, the problem is that Pokemon is unique among monster games (including games like Monster Hunter and Digimon) for a couple of reasons:

1: All Mons are expected to be in each game successively, so people can carry them from one game to another. I really can't stress how unique this is as a feature, literally no other game EVER does this to this scale.
2: All mons are supposed to be very distinct from each other, to the point of having different models, skeletons, and animations.

These are conditions no other successful mon game follows. Monster hunter peaked at about 130 distinct monsters total, then DRASTICALLY cut back for the HD games so far. And even then, the games reuse animations heavily for monster attacks, the infamous Hip Check being a key example. Digimon cybersleuth released with less mons than Gold and Silver had, at 249, and the 92 Extra mons that come from Hackers Memory doesn't come close to Hoenn's base 386. Pokemon literally can't do either of those things to make reworking the models easier. If the roster gets cut to the point where you could reasonably make HD models of all the mons, the fans'd throw a fit about it. And Pokemon have such distinct designs that you can't just port models from one monster to another.

Probably should have specified that if the general consensus in the thread for the remake is negative then I'll start the profile changing.
idk if that's a good measure either, Kiwis can be very determined to shit on something once they've made up their minds about it. See: All the people who flipped from calling Game Freak idiots to moaning about the very concept of Game Freak outsourcing Pokemon games at all.

I've been watching the first couple seasons of the anime dub and decided out of curiosity to watch one of the more recent episodes. What in the hell happened with Ash's VA? I understand recasting a new actress but he went from sounding like a believable(if cartoonified) ten year old boy to generic western animation young woman.

Any indication of how long Snap 2 is gonna be? I'm not paying $60 for a game that's two or three hours long.
It has more than 3 times the Pokemon of the original, but I'd also expect either the courses to be longer or to be more densely packed. Hard to say, really.

The original game's full gameplay youtube vids are 1:40 - 2:40 hours long. There's one that's 53 minutes long but that's probably an expert. So New Pokemon snap will probably be around 6 hours, give or take a couple, if they haven't found a way to make replaying the game more fun.

Kinda like Yu-Gi-Oh! Legacy of the Duelist? That would be pretty nice.
I would absolutely play a Legacy of the Duelist style game for the Pokemon TCG. Ultimately picked YGO for my TCG money suck hobby so having a virtual option sounds great. I loved that GBC game as a kid too. My deck was janky legendary bird spam bullshit.

The current TCG online platform Pokemon has isn't even playable anymore with the absurd amount of scalping going on with irl cards. My collector friends have mentioned what it takes to get cards for their collections and it's bonkers.

There's something about a Pokemon Fossil Museum thing that's going to be in Japan this summer. From the awkward Google Translate, it sems they're going to use Pokemon to teach about real fossils.

Im still amazed that GEN 1 gets a remake every 3-5 years but Gen 4 seems to be gamefreak's least favorite generation.

Reminds me of how post-JJ Star Trek focuses on the TOS era but neglects stuff after. Also I didn't know about the outsourcing thing with the Gen 4 remake. Maybe not a good sign...

(I like ORAS myself BTW - especially the flying part - although the graphics aren't that good. Golden Sun: Dark Dawn - a DS game - seems to do better, or at least just as good.)

(I also like ORAS as it got the SSHG treatment that GEN4 had.) It was an early-mid 3DS life cycle title. It never tried to be Crysis with its own subtly cell shaded style.

Pokemon wasn't trying historical revisionism with their Gen 1 pandering where hollywierd is so hellbent on Larping about Kirk and undermining any culturally significant western franchise in a bid to push their Agenda to demoralize people. All while Niggers keep chimping out with "DAYUM DEEZ SUKS!" *shrugs shoulder* Imma go git highun weed!" and not doing anything about it like making better movies or not wrecking the shit that already worked and moving on to loot something else until nature takes its course.

The Pokemon company was just trying to teach newcomers what the hell a pikachu is as the mascot of the company and at least still very much still does what they set out to do. Despite not making anything originally interesting since GEN 4 with the Mystery gift Event items where the azure flute still goes unused to this day and has never been attempted again.

Hopefully we get to see the hall of origin in the intended way this time in the remake. It nailed the "other world" feel with far less flare and effort than the shitty forced Shadow realm in platinum despite being unused.

Same with catching rotom in the old gateau at midnight. (another innovation that was never attempted again in any meaningful way since GEN 4.)

TPCi is run by cheapskates and didn't like that 4KIDS spent a lot of money on their dubs, so there's obvious cut corners with the production. Sarah Natochenny at least is an actual fan and they tried to cast someone who could sound as close to Veronica Taylor as much as possible, but even though she's gotten better with experience, the script and ADR director's directing (currently Lisa Ortiz) ultimately still bleed through. Supposedly it was worse when Tom Wayland was in charge.

Also Sarah was (or still is? Which is actually retarded if so) a smoker, so that's why Ash sounds rather rough.

EDIT: morning brainfarts

One of the things that seemed so weird to me decision-wise in SwSh is that they added a lot of unique animations for the Pokémon to use, but it's all completely restricted to the camping gimmick. They really did put work into some of the Pokemon animations, but then basically didn't use them in any meaningful way.

They could have easily fixed some of the shitty Sky Battle 3D models for mons like Skarmory. He has an entire set of standing and attacking animations that look similar to his Stadium 2/Genius Sonority standing stance when in the camping mode.

I know it's all wishful thinking, but they could easily implement something like multiple battle stances for some Pokemon depending on something like their Nature. To continue with the Skarm example: Maybe a +Spd nature he has the flying animation set he currently is stuck with, but a +Atk or +Def nature he has the aggressive standing animation set.

For those of you autistic enough to play the modern TCG in any sort of capacity TPCi has announced the new 2021-2022 rotations coming into effect this September, as expected Standard’s moving onto a SWSH-on format while Expanded is staying with its usual BW-on format. One thing of note is that, due to it being discontinued as of SWSH, Basic Fairy Energy will be banned from Standard once the 2021-2022 rotation is in effect.

Your collector friends are more than likely referring physical products, AFAIK the TCGO hasn’t been hit by the scalper menace due to them finding no use for code cards outside of selling ‘em at their usual resale prices.

I wish Dragon-types woul disappear. Their cards just want you to mix separate energies instead of dedicating a specific energy to Dragons. Moreover, I was doing just fine with Colourless-type Dragons!
At leas the Fairy type made sense wi tha type being new... and Fairies actually got heir own types!

Dragon types are in limbo so far in SWSH sets. There haven't been any Dragon type Pokemon printed yet since all Dragons they've printed so far are dual types that used their other typing. Fan favorite pure Dragon types like Haxorus and Goodra will eventually be printed, so they'll have to decide on what to do with them then. For the handful of pure Dragon types that there actually are they could incorporate the Pokemon's attack type like Water Goodra or Fire or Steel Haxorus.

Having a clunky but powerful archetype is cool, but it never felt fun to play after Double Dragon Energy rotated out.

The current theory among competitive players is that pure Dragon-type Pokémon will end up as Colorless-types like they were before Dragons Exalted introduce the Dragon-type to the TCG but with fixed weaknesses (Dragon-type Pokémon that got the Colorless treatment were either weak to Colorless-types or had no weaknesses at all).

As for why Dragon-types were dropped come SWSH if also assumed to be the same reasoning behind the retiring of the Fairy-type: simplifying the number of weaknesses in the game,

Nice to see that even the card game is getting dumbed down.

Explain how Sarah sounds like Veronica in any way. Ash’s balls dropped the second the voice actors changed.

Even fucking Pokémon Go has what I assume to be unique walking/running/playing animations (e.g. not recycled from main series games) for when you’re “walking” them as your buddy for every single Pokémon in the game so far. Not fixing basic shit like the flying models isn’t even laziness, it’s just pure apathy.

We’re not even asking for that much, we just want the mons to look like they do in Home and actually have animations when they attack.

That’s why I distinguish between laziness and apathy.

Laziness would imply a mindset like “I know I really SHOULD do X but I just don’t feel like it”. Meanwhile, I’m pretty sure Gamefreak’s stance on these issues is “...problem? I don’t see a problem here”.

And there’s no excuse for those gliding Flying-types, even back when Sky Battles were a thing. Why do the other Charizards fly but Mega X does the stupid glide?
