Pokémon (Not-So) Griefing Thread - Scarlet and Violet Released with 10 Million Copies in First 3 Days in Buggy States

I'm still planning on grabbing the Snap remake. I will admit I am a nostalgia whore and that may be driving my purchase. Still remember the days of taking your game to that kiosk at Blockbuster to print your photos even if they were ass in the hands of a kid.

My question is where the fuck were those graphics for SwSh?

Please understand, Game Freak small indie dev, Namco not

Im still amazed that GEN 1 gets a remake every 3-5 years but Gen 4 seems to be gamefreak's least favorite generation.
Gen 3 had a remake about a decade later and Gen 4's remakes were pushed back almost 2 decades and then rushed as Chinese shovelware.
With the passing of Iwata (which Gen 4 was clearly his favorite generation because it was the largest growth and number of spinoffs at once in the franchise's history which laid the foundation for up to Gen 8 where GF really dropped the ball with their Krabby land version of pokemon.) Pokemon sucks now.

GF hates Sinnoh so much that they outsourced it to a Chinese mobile game developer with half the effort put in compared to ORAS, the GEN 3 remakes and looks far worse than the pretty solid HeartGold/SoulSilver Gen 2 remakes back in GEN 4 which was made on inferior hardware with far less resources at the dev's disposal.

"OOPS there buddy, ran out of energy, gotta pay me real $$$ for them time gems so you can fight more Pokémon battles against fucking Bidoof in the tall grass. (and other arbitrary bullshit that was never in the base game.)"

People were expecting something along the lines of Pokemon Sun in gameplay and world models. Not this lazy ass Chibi shit. It was cute in the DS and GBA games due to hardware limitations (Gen 4 and 5 were a full 3D engine but the DS sucked hardware wise.) and style as emerging devs making a niche, But 30 years of Pokemon with all the advancements in computer tech leaves no excuse not to have detailed character models like in the anime, which was the original goal of the devs in the first place.

Gamefreak smol indie studio plz understand.

As understandable as that point of view is, I'm still of the opinion that we need to wait and see on this.

This is first time they ever outsourced to another studio (with the one they chose having some decent games under their belt) and, right now, it's up in the air how this will turn out (same with Legends). Who knows, if this remake is good, maybe the chibi style will grow on you.

The style is irrelevant to me so much as will the game actually be finished, playable, and have enough new content to justify a re-release. It's not worth re-buying if it's a straight 1:1 remake with a fresh coat of paint and minimum new content. The only reason I'm even slightly optimistic about it is that a different studio is handling it. I would expect GF to just outright remove features from it if they were doing it, as they do with the main series games. Maybe somebody else won't fuck it up so bad. Who knows.

Alright, how about this: if this game bombs, I will change my name and profile to anything of your choosing for two months. Either way, I'll get some fun out of the game being released.

It's not going to bomb. They can release any mediocre Pokemon game and hit insane sales targets. The fanbase is really hungry for an actual good Pokemon console game and will keep buying their crap no matter what. To be honest, I think releasing the same garbage and still making a ton of money is worse for the IP in the long run than a single bad game. It disincentivizes creative thinking and risk taking for the franchise. All the recent mainline Pokemon have been within this very narrow lane of lowest common denominator safe, familiar style. The franchise is in the state its in because they can pump out an uninspired game every year or so without any financial consequences.

I hope a different developer will be more willing to take risks and do something different with the franchise, maybe be more ambitious, add more features, and finish the game on time. Some of the side games by different developers have been really excellent.

I get why people are disappointed in the chibi toy-ified style. It can seem like a cheap cash nostalgia grab, but it can also be effective at getting players to use their imaginations if it's done well. It's not the epic adventure style a lot of people were hoping for, especially after getting disappointed by all the missed opportunities in SwSh. I'm firmly planted in the 'wait and see' camp for this remake and Legends. Not pre-ordering but not a hard no to picking it up.

The TCG Online does exist but it's a barebones way to play the card game online. You either have to grind packs or enter codes from real packs to get fake online packs, and grinding the cards is just as bad as any online TCG where you can directly spend actual money. They even scuttled Legacy format that used the HGSS and early Black & White cards, which was pretty close to the old card game.

I would love another TCG RPG, but that's not happening in the era of online card games. At least there's a translation of the TCG GB 2 game that has the Rocket sets and a shitton of Japanese Promos in it. Some of the bosses in the game even have deck restrictions that you have to follow like only having one specific type of energy in your deck. Means you can't just build a disgusting Rain Dance Blastoise deck and destroy everything like the first game.

Probably should have specified that if the general consensus in the thread for the remake is negative then I'll start the profile changing.

Thinking about it, I would be pretty happy if Pokemon Pinball came back. That was some fun stuff.
God, I miss Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire. I don't know what happened to our copy. Maybe my brothers did something with it 'cause they were mad they could never beat my record on both fields.

But yeah, I can't believe they never made another pinball game. It sucks.

If GameFreak were a real developer they would include pinball tables in their main series games and it could be a rad minigame with leaderboards.

But that's asking way too much of them.

Ilca has never actually developed a game before now though. They’re known for animation.
It would be neat if you could choose what sets to play in skirmishes and whatnot. Maybe you want to play a game as if it were 1998 again, so you could easily sort out cards that didn't exist.
Kinda like Yu-Gi-Oh! Legacy of the Duelist? That would be pretty nice.

I always thought it would be a good idea to have pinball replace the slot machines/Voltorb Flip.
