Unfortunately wayback machine does not have anything cached as far as i can tell earlier than early 2000 or so,
but I looked at the traffic for third week of april and compared 2020 and 2021 and traffic had dropped from ~3500 posts a day to ~2500 posts a day in the gaming forum. That is a pretty bad drop, almost a third was lost.

Then for something fun, look at stats for january, I think it was around january 26 (+/- a few days, dont remember)
where suddenly about 10% of all posts just dissapeared from one dat to the other across the whole site.
So, the purge and "remove wrongthink" has been going on for a while.
When someone confronted him and asked about "why did 10% of all posts just get deleted?" He just responded "strange". lol.

I don't think it is the mods that are banning these people. His mods were often quite reasonable. I am certain that these perma-ban waves are Elf himself banning people, not the mods.

you can look at site traffic on Alexa. He used to post monthly stats of how well the site was doing. Back in January he had dropped to 17k.and today he's at 35k.

The average number of 'users online' has plummeted and there are hardly any reactions left.

It's almost certainly some kind of real life pressure, my guess would be he's trying to date a woman with touchy politics or is getting pressure from some kind of Sleeping Giants type of campaign behind the scenes.

Well I know I'm kinda late on this but the whole 'older sibling helps raise their younger sibling(s)' trope isn't anything new and it's not exclusive to Japanese media anyway as you can find plenty of Western media that are examples of this trope by the way.

Also, I guess ResetEra doesn't really understand the concept of dysfunctional families and orphans because in real life there are plenty of people out there that have to raise their younger sibling(s) and it's because either the parents are dead or the parents don't give that much of a shit that they have to take on that role then.

I wouldn't class it as a bet. I made a post in November last year, and again in December, saying what will happen with GAF (shit was already changing then), then he had his big sperg out in Jan and again in April.

He had a whole group of people telling him why he shouldn't sperg out like he did and he still did it. From April 2020, all he had to do was nothing and his website would have bounced back.

Now? He will be jobless by April 2022
