It's probably a vestigial trait in humans, evolved to help a baby primate cling to its mom. The retention of the palmar grasp reflex beyond 2-4 months is an ominous sign and basically always means something bad is wrong with the infant's brain. The fact that Luna is so old and still shows this type of reflex is indicative of how severe her brain damage is. Specifically, this is usually a sign of profound damage to the frontal lobe.

Robyn takes advantage of it by making it appear that Luna can hold things, but she can't and the way she uses her hands is very abnormal. Any neurologist who saw this video would be really froke out.

Thanks for teaching me something new today I'm generally ignorant to medical stuff but oh my god, how could a woman not go to doctor's appointments, the hospital, the OB?! It seems like if you so much as breathe the wrong way, something could go wrong with a pregnancy.

Isn’t hospice care is the US defined as being for people who are terminally ill and not expected to live past 6 months requiring 2 doctors to confirm this diagnosis?? Meanwhile Robyn paints the story that Luna is in great health, thriving, and crushing all of those milestones and the sky is the limit !!! The goal of hospice care is to comfort rather than cure which is the opposite of what Robyn presents ! For someone so against the medical system, she sure does take advantage of it !! But unfortunately way to late for Luna’s case which is what makes me dislike Robyn the most. If only she had taken advantage of the medical system during pregnancy, birth and the first few months following she wouldn’t even be in this position. Allopathic medicine is the ONLY reason that Luna is still alive today, yet she talks so much shit about it - it’s not your woo bs that has kept her alive, it’s the medical system you hate so much. Yup!!! Atlas at 2.5 months has surpassed and is way beyond Luna on all levels of development and milestones than Luna is now or EVER was. Even when you look at newborn Luna photos or videos she NEVER had reached the level of development or milestones Atlas has reached, yet if you listen to The way Robyn explains it she was a completely normal baby hitting all milestones until the eye twitches... which is just a no. Exactly, very very sad. I know its power level but I have an almost 3 month old who is already more advanced. I just think all these therapies ect are a waste. It wont help her improve, shes not getting better. Why not just make her as comfortable as possible for the rest of her short painful life?

If you look up: Illinois Birth Injury Law Alliance Cystic Encephalomalacia. It is a law firm that specializes in suing hospitals that cause this injury. Because thats what it is, and injury. It that really breaks down how preventable and fixable this actually could have been had she even brought her new born to an actual doctor post birth.

After Mirnas synopsis of the pod cast I had to listen for myself. Listening to them describe the E.R. doctors horror after the first scan to check for seizures is what put this in perspective. They talk about how the "seasoned doctor" was in shock and couldn't get the words out. Can you wrap your head around what that takes to make an ER doctor behave like they have just seen a ghost? Robins non stop trashing the doctors made me loose any empathy I had left among losing all bits of optimism I once had. They state that her brain wasn't a brain. Its horrifying to know how bleak her prognosis was then. She keeps stating that the child missed mile stones because she wasn't shunted. If the D.R.'s had shunted the kid right then and there, successfully, there was no gas in the tank to drive with. Want to finger paint but you have no fingers? You can't you dont have fingers. Want to hit milestones like rolling over, holding your head up, walking, talking, thinking thoughts and processing complex information but you have no actual brain tissue? Well, you can't. THANKFULLY this poor child can't even want, to want, to hit these milestones.

The real hate she spews for doctors is really what gets me. She really spews actual venom for them. Didn't believe in them enough to see them after she was born but then wants them to perform miracles on command. Very Veruka Salt. If they don't go through the hospice process they don't get benefits like getting to cash on on the kids social security early or a Hawaiin vacation on the make a wish foundation's dime. If they don't go through the song and dance of hospice, say in a year they want a new pool with the kids SS money, they won't be able to file. Otherwise every scammer would say their kid was on hospice, cash out and then claim a miracle when they wound up not dying.

Home birthers will always point to things that go wrong during hospital births, but in Luna’s case it was a very easy fix. Getting stuck in the birth canal or a cord wrapped around a neck are really humdrum for hospital births and can be easily dealt with, even if a c-section might be required. The monitoring equipment they use lets them know immediately when a baby is in distress and how fast to act to limit that and avoid a brain injury. Unlike Robyn who had no idea her daughter was starved for oxygen in the birth canal for hours.

Late, but all three of my kids had dropping heart rates, foetal distress, and the last baby was delivered by emergency section because he got the cord round his neck and no scan had showed that before labour was induced. All three needed foetal blood gases taken whilst in the canal.

I would probably have no living children if I had gone in for home birthing.

All three of them are absolutely fine and none of my serious postpartum complications killed me, since hospitals are fully equipped for gnarly emergencies.a

I am not in any way an unusual case. Easy access to hospital obstetric care is a massive plus of living in a first world country. It’s hard to understand - harder still as someone who’s lain there whilst midwives and doctors burst into action over a labour going sideways - why you would intentionally deprive yourself and your baby of that safety net.

I remember being really frightened for my babies, in a lot of pain, and holding on to one thought: “Dr [consultant name] is here, and she won’t let anything happen to us, I trust her”. Who was going to be that person I trusted at home?
