Apple's App Store art is fucking horrendous | Flat art / Alegria / Corporate Memphis - click for feet

This may or may not become a recurring theme, but I'll play devil's advocate again (sort of). Saying this is the equivalent of asking why are IKEA assembly instructions line art when the Renaissance masters could paint realistic, highly detailed furniture 500 years ago.

As pointed out above, it all boils down to cost and practicality. 'Humans of flat' can be downloaded in cheap vector packs and then easily re-dressed, recoloured and rearranged to fit almost any industry context, brand guidelines and diversity requirement. Why hire a full-time illustrator when a social media intern can replace say, that dude's jersey from above with a blue shirt, slap an apron and a hat, and turn him into a Black McD's employee in less than ten minutes?
I find it hard to believe because the "artists" responsible to this dreck probably make a full pay job as "web designers" and take days to fart out their shitty work while using most of their time for office politics.
You could almost certainly pay less and take less time for each commission by just contracting freelancers.

It's like humanity evolved from making 2d simplified designs of human into extremely realistic images only to slide back into 2d art because actual skill is white supremacist.
I don't think it's fair to lump multiple movements, styles, mediums, etc. in with what is pretty obviously just cheap, trite corporate slop made by some CalArts graduate who failed to make it onto Cartoon Network and is now $50,000 in debt.

Also, as impressive as it is to make realistic drawings of humans, and many people still do, after the development of photography, art in general needed to evolve into a more conceptual format in order to be more than just what was often a utilitarian role. It can be argued that the onset of styles such as Cubism actually led to innovation, such as helping combine drawing and filmaking in order to create animation, or even video games.

you may find it easier to believe when you remember that today's "web designers" live for the sole purpose of shilling css frameworks and spreading javascript into every single crevice of the internet like it's a fucking disease

HP not only makes shitty products but also shitty art.

Also, what's your guys' opinion on Adobe Illustrator? I personally don't dislike it, but if anyone has a better alternative, I'm all ears
I've heard things about Sketchbook. Good things? Bad things? No, just things.

It's free(ish) but it's tablet centered, raster not vector, and it will probably install FlexLM. Not a big deal I just hate FlexLM.

There’s something endearing about 90s clip-art I think, it’s similar to HOF but without any of the cynicism or political baggage. They made what they wanted to make, and what the wanted to make just happened to be weird and sort of unpleasant. Nowadays everything looks like that because it was “imagineered” by a committee and drawn up by a terminally online progressive neurotic.
The 90s clip art is different because it has energy to it. There's a sense of motion involved. The modern flat crap is lineless and even if the subjects are depicted in motion, there's nothing there to really differentiate them from the background. Plus they seem to do that single-color mask bullshit PK uses, except in terrible forms of sepia instead of magenta.

No surprise people who can walk and breathe simultaneously are drawn more to the crisp and colorful anime type art when the alternative is this ocean of washed out baby shit brown blobs.

Maybe it's some subliminal psyop to further body positivity by removing all common concepts of what humans should look like.
