General GunTuber thread

And here I was, wondering where I heard Ian talking about the difficulties in taking a prototype firearm to production; in today's FW book review, he segues about it for the last couple minutes.

It's almost as if he's obliquely trying to take some heat off Karl & Russ, while not making any statements about problem(s) with the WWSD rifle directly; or perhaps more aptly, while not pozloading my neghole.

Ian was/is way too sympathetic towards Accuracy international and the development of the L96. When the first production rifles went into service it caused several injuries with the bolt essentially blowing back into the shooter. As bad as the SA80 was at least it was fundamentally safe.

Only for the fact that the MOD and Army were adept at sweeping up for contractors, and that AI was seen as something of a national champion, it could have been the end for them.

What's up with all the trannies using the vaporwave aesthetics/color setup?
No idea. The pink/purple tones are probably inspired by contrapoints.
In general the color set up is being used by a lot of newcomers because it sets an effective mood without requiring that much skill or monetary investment when it comes to color and lighting.
Just an example I watched a few days ago.
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCjf97xR5QC6T_g3lp7IGa4g/videos an example of a channel that uses VHS/vaporwave aesthetics but not the colors
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC8n7AzIQ0OLsWjmEdnahmeQ/videos channel that doesn't use the lighting in videos but has a vaporwave channel background and the avatar is K from Blade Runner 2049 as a wojak.
All in all vaporwave got pretty popular and I assume media like Cyberpunk 2077 got even more people to ride that bandwagon. I wouldn't tie this phenomenom to to trooning out in particular but the contrapoints connection is hard to ignore.

Jonathan Ferguson in his live stream launching the book described the SA80 A2 as being the most 'reliable' gun in NATO. Which was an interesting statement. I'll be curious to see if he puts a bit of spin on it's development in the book.
As much time and money as they've spend on trying to make it run the sa80A2 should be the most reliable gun in planet earth. I mean it weighs 11 pounds loaded and with optic, so they have plenty of material to work with.

British people tend to be super delusional about how reliable and accurate the sa80a2 is because they have no frame of reference other than how shitty it used to be.

So up untill the late 2000's if you joined the British Army as anything other than infantry you were going to be issued an A1 in phase 1 training. Something that I and some others noticed was that our rifles would rattle when you shook the TMH and main body, where as other recruits had rifles that were more solid.

Now in phase 1 in the British army there are less than 5 actual range shoots, all of which were in very well looked after ranges. The majority of us had never fired a rifle before in our lives so we had nothing to compare the A1 too. However in my section there were only 2 guys that ever got stoppages, and it was obvious even to us that it was because their particular rifles had problems.

When we did firing with blanks it was a little different usually it would be a failure to extract, but then we all thought that was normal.

When we went to an actual unit we got A2's however the first time I got to Kuwait and did a range package in the middle of the desert, I got stoppage after stoppage and I could hear the bold carrier assy grinding when I tried to clear it. I didn't even have one of the range staff screaming at me because everyone else's rifle was doing the same.

Maybe AK's and AR's would perform the same way on that range on that particular day... but I have to say I and my fellow remf's were having a crisis of confidence in our weapons systems.

KUSA? Yea, they make top notch shit and probably really are a KC front. PSA? You're fucking joking. I've been hearing PSA is the future of the AK market since their dogshit gen 1 came out. More and more people catch on all the time to how shit their products actually are. It's actually pretty funny watching some of the witch hunts that have occurred on AK Files from people who've never shot an AK before their 76th gen PSA trying to call others who actually know shit about fuck, that they're anti American for not liking a company that puts Chinese cheapness to shame. You see the same shit with Olight, "Oh, they're not really Chinese and they're such great lights, you're just an ignorant hater!!!!1111".
This man saved me from becoming a PSA retard. Much happier with my zastava. Thank you

57:59 Patrick H - Have you ever had yourself or seen a cartridge detonate in a tube magazine?

April Q&A is out and it's not too bad or at least the first 75% isn't too bad the end kind of goes off the rails. No stupid meme questions about food mostly everything about guns. Honestly the worst part for me is that his sunglasses are crooked the whole time and it irked me.

The end just goes all to hell as he tries to make a comparison between gun rights and marijuana legalization, and then straight up says that telling degenerate commies they aren't welcome in gun culture is a threat to gun rights. He also brings up the discord leaks again.

I have to admit that I have shot about a mag each through my buddies psak-103 and his WWSD rifle and they were both fine. The wwsd rifle handled very well, was light as hell, and didn't feel as flimsy like I thought it would, but was a lot of money for something that didn't impress me over my 10.5" psa pistol build. (I won't tolerate any shit talk of it lol. It's 100% with m193, is a dream to carry, and will ring steel at 400 all day long. You've just got to be willing to retork every part if you buy a psa gun. Never seen one that won't shoot after that.)

The ak shot fine and was probably the slickest ak I've ever handled as far as controls/mag changes/ bolt function/trigfer, but I mostly deal with ghettoed out WASRs that haven't been oiled since ever. I am unprepared to make any claims about build quality and authenticity other than the sights were straight and no rivots or bends were obviously off. It didn't strike me as amazing compared to my VZ2008 side folder I had that day, just as good for an ak.

What a faggot. Keeping people out of my hobby who would put me on the edge of ditch if they had the power is my prerogative. He's lucky communism is legal to begin with, they should have outlawed it.

Yeah, the vast majority of gun people I know are very open to different kinds of people becoming interested in the hobby. If you don't cry in terror at the sight of 3per sticker or gadsden flag its a welcoming community. If the far left was given any control they would immediately start thought policing people and pushing out groups they don't like. Hell, Karl has already done it himself with the rules for that shooting event.

Agreed. I mean I could care less if blacks wanted to go back to the militarization of the 1960s or rooftop Korean gun clubs spread out.. I think everyone should be armed as an armed society is a polite society. As you pointed out, leftists scum think only the right opinions should be armed.

Goddamn.

You've all probably heard of the 'fabled' Turkish 7.92x57mm Mauser surplus ammo (Ian did a video on it a while back even), most of it has not been stored properly, either it was exposed to direct sunlight or lots of moisture, or both, and it's some really funky and weird stuff which you don't want to shoot. Aside from the crazy high pressure, which is known for cracking stocks on Mauser rifles and for straight up exploding the action on machineguns and other self-loading guns, it's also known for hangfires, which is fantastic if you open the action to see what happened/load the next round the moment the sizzling primer finally touches off the propellant. That's a reminder to always keep the action closed and the muzzle downrange if you get a sudden click, let it sit for a few seconds.

tl;dr there's multiple different ways it can ruin your gun and even you. Now imagine either of this but with a big and fat .50BMG cartridge.

He's pretty fucking lucky to be alive. Mark Serbu is a cool guy, and though I think his proper .50BMG rifles are fantastic, I've never looked at the RN50 with confidence, however I'm positive that this grenade of a load would have ruined basically any .50BMG firearm you could load it with, including something like an M2HB or GAU-19B. Mystery ammo is bad enough in just regular rifle and pistol cartridges, but with something like this, which is like a tiny cannon shell, you're playing with fire. Random loose .50BMG cartridge which was made who knows when, stored who knows how by what people for how long? I know SLAPs are exotic, but I wouldn't want to shoot an example such as this, pull the projectile and reload it if you absolutely have to.

I can't exactly blame Mark Serbu for his design not resisting Bubba's nuclear hot handloads but that action is way too exposed. And it needs to be or else it would be an ordeal to unscrew that cap.
The armchair gunsmith in me is telling me that it would be preferable to shroud the action, keep the threading as the locking surface but make it an interrupted thread so that it can be operated like a bolt action.

That's a combination of incredible good luck, quick thinking and excellent trauma care that he's even still alive. That RN50 looks like a glorified pipegun honestly, probably any proper .50 would've kaboomed too but I don't think they'd send a thick breechcap flying at your face at least.

I peered through the YouTube comments and saw some people suggest this had to do with SLAPs and muzzlebrakes, that they don't fit properly or something. I don't know if that's true, I don't know that much about these loadings, but as I understand they're a sub-caliber projectile with a sabot, it seems to be like this shouldn't be a problem, but I'll defer to other people's knowledge/experience.

The entire point of the RN-50 is to be a simple .50BMG rifle, as designed (or co-designed) by RoyalNonsuch, a YouTuber who made slambang pipeguns in stuff like .357 Magnum and 12-Gauge (his channel was deleted by Google for sharing such forbidden knowledge). Mark Serbu took a shine to that dude, probably because he himself did a lot of tinkering in his garage with tools and metal in his youth, he has videos on his own YouTube channel and on Full30 showing old stuff he's made as well as newer projects, such as rebuilding parts kits and stuff like that.
Perhaps I was presumptuous about the propellant in the cartridge, but I think I'll still stand by my opinion to not fuck around with loose mystery ammo in huge calibers.

The rifle is probably safe enough, but Serbu already produces a proper bolt-action rifle in .50, and a semi-automatic which uses Barrett magazines and shoots tighter groups than an M82, so the RN-50 doesn't exist for any reason that's particularly good, it's mostly just because of the RoyalNonsuch dude. A rifle with a more enclosed receiver might have protected this guy more, but he'd probably still have had to rush to the hospital.

That's a combination of incredible good luck, quick thinking and excellent trauma care that he's even still alive.
He says at the end of the video that he can only thank God, but he should more than anything be thankful that his dad was there to rescue him.
