There is no difference between a business forcing you to wear a facemask and a business forcing women to wear a hijab or men to wear a yarmulke. No reason that should ever be required unless they can give a good reason for it (and hey, a mosque or synagogue has good reason to since that's their religion). COVID-19[84] has spawned an insane secular religion. We have zero right to make fun of Muslim countries or those dumb settlements in Israel/New York where Jews dress like they live in a 19th century Russian shtetl ever again.

Shit, like remember the stories where airline flights to/from Israel were delayed for hours because some Ultra-Orthodox Jew was seated next to a woman which the Talmud says is a big no-no? We're already seeing that when some little kid won't wear the mandated hijab correctly and flights are delayed as some random flight attendant Karen berates the kid and their family.

Absolute nonsense. I gladly encourage anyone who feels they are vulnerable to wear PPE, especially the correct PPE which is a respirator which filters out the virus particles. Stop wearing the cheap masks. They won't work. You will get sick. It says so right on the box where it says "does not protect against disease".

My state is now lifting restrictions for fully vaccinated and recovered people.
Our minister-president has the gall to talk about how fundamental rights are very important.
It's not "fundamental rights" if it's tied to a vaccine or getting over an illness, innit.
Branch Covidians are still furious because they're all-in on the forever-lockdown because the Coof will never go away.

I need some seriously raw and kvlt Black Metal to lift my spirits after today's feast of black pills.

PCR isn't even a test, it's an amplification process that you then can test. So they'll keep using that method as it's general and can be cycled up or down depending on what narrative you need to run.

I feel like they might be going for "variants that the PCR test can't detect" or something like that, so they'll focus on the spike as a common thing.

Dammit, I've been trying to lure the smart blue staters to my red-state shithole for revenge this entire time and you've given away the secret! I might as well be honest now, all of my reckless maskless ways came at a price!

There's so few of us left. And we are all employed by the remnant local government to stack bodies in a line to the outdoor corpse pyres. The smell is ungodly, if only we had listened to the CDC! Luckily human meat is plentiful otherwise we'd be starving.

Hopefully a fresh infusion of Californians will fix things right up! I've heard they are experts at masking and social distancing. I hope one can teach me how to bend over and accept the vaccines!

Hilarious as this is, it was also the big clue for me. I could read studies. I could narrow my eyes at the ridiculous data-denying conclusions those studies reached. I could use anecdotes from people I know that told me it was at worst a moderate cold in normal people. I could use my trusty compass that tells me the lefties around here always come to the stupidest, most reality-denying conclusion about everything.

But where are the stacks of maggot-infested homeless corpses? I haven't seen a single one. You know who a scary reaper virus is sure to wreck? Your local chronically unhealthy, doctor-avoiding, malnourished, drug-addled, unsanitary, rodent-adjacent street corner ranter. They're all still alive and still ranting outside their favorite smoke shops and payday loan vulture nests. Their flesh hasn't even necrotized more than normal. I expected some actual gore from the Hollywood production this cold was hyped up to be.

I pointed this out parallel out to a few of my friends at the beginning, before people were required to wear masks, but who's paranoid now?
It's also kind of scary to see certain people's inability to understand that the arguments being made are the same.
"It's like being asked to wear a hijab."
"No it's not. The virus is real and this protects us from the virus."
"No it doesn't."
"Your mask protects other people."
"Well by that arguement, a hijab is the woman's way of protecting herself from men. So the men who tell them to wear it would be in the right. Right?"
"Yeah but those men choose to be violent towards those women."
"But if the men are choosing to be violent towards the women, and you acknowledge they are doing so, then isn't that threat also real?"

YELLOW TIER WITHIN REACH AS COUNTY'S SCORE SHRINKS TO 1.9

Almost two months after the strict social distancing rules of the state's Purple Tier ended here, not only is there no sign of a surge in Monterey County, new cases have slowed to the point where state health officials are apparently getting ready to move the county into the Yellow Tier — the last one before all shutdown rules end.(Maybe, if they don't move the goal posts again. Am sure Nazi Newsom feels that recall election breathing down his neck. -JS(

Monterey County's move to the Yellow Tier could come as early as May 19 after today's announcement from the California Department of Public Health that the county's current tier score is 1.9 — just within Yellow Tier territory. A score of less than 2.0 is needed three weeks in a row before the move to the Yellow Tier becomes official.

According to the CDC, California now has the lowest rate of new cases in the country, and Monterey County has one of the lowest rates in the state – quite a distinction for a county that was experiencing 120-plus new cases per day per 100,000 residents in early January.

Today's tier score announcement came as local health officials said 85 county residents had tested positive for the virus over the last seven days. Of those, 17 were in the Monterey Peninsula, including seven in Pacific Grove, four in Monterey, three each in Marina and Seaside and none in Big Sur, Carmel-by-the-Sea, Carmel Valley, Carmel area (93923) or Pebble Beach. Also worth noting is that only nine people are currently hospitalized with Covid-19 at the county's four hospitals.

CHOMP and its parent company, Montage Health, said this morning they have "many vaccine appointments available this week," which you can book at www.chomp.org/vaccine. Vaccinations from Montage are available not only in Marina, but at pop-up clinics Thursday and Saturday in Seaside, where appointments can also be made by telephone by calling (831) 899-6822 .

edit: that Atlantic article starts out thoughtful, with valid reasons for the vaccine hesitancy. Then ends up using the same protect grandma trope to try convince branch covidian non-believers (and admitting it probably won't work anyway).
