I was astounded by how adamant he was that Digi would win a case against Turkey in court for libel/defamation of character when it is SUCH an extraordinarily difficult thing to prove in court - not only does one need to prove malice but also knowledgeable intent in assassinating ones character.

Not to mention Digi would have to prove damages to his career as a result of Turkey Tom's allegations; if his Patreon and viewership count was still going strong (as it was back then), then he had no hope of convincing either a judge or a jury that his reputation as a Youtuber was damaged in any way by Tom's video.

Adding to this is how open Digi was at potentially damaging his own career with his infamous confession on the Dick Show, which Tom cited in his video, in the first place.

Then again, no one in their right mind really wants to go to court (even if Tom was initially brazen about the possibility of Conrad suing him), and even though defamation is trickier in the US for the plaintiff to win with due to constitutional free speech (compared to Europe), Tom likely didn't want to risk it (not to mention he wasn't an adult then and was way over his head with Digi's legal threats) and just deleted his video to be on the safe side.

Something feels very off in their calculation, but as Riley is a compulsive liar, I don't think we'll ever find out before everything goes up in flames. I watched this documentary about the touring experiences of Indie/Punk bands called Why Am I Doing This?. Where they talk extensibly about how (At least if you're not a big band) touring is basically setting your money on fire. How most of the time if these bands wants to tour they need to save money in order to do so. Aside from the money, they talk about how horrible of a life style it is. Honestly i don't think they are cut out for it. And these bands at least have a home to return to at the end of it. Also they normally do more than just 1 fucking show and then that's it. Maybe they're getting a lot of content during the trip like the interviews and the fucking reststop reviews. But let's be honest, No one fucking cares.

I don't know where Turkey Tom lives, but if his state didn''t have a strong anti-SLAPP, I imagine explaining to his parents why he needed 20k-50k for a competent lawyer to write up an exhaustive 12(b)(6) isn't something he really wanted to deal with, even if there's a decent to good chance of winning, with no guarantee of recovering fees and costs.

The one thing I will say in Digi's defense is that strictly speaking, unironically calling someone a pedophile is far more serious from a defamation perspective as it wouldn't be unreasonable to pray for per-se damages which would negate the need to prove damages (something Digi would not normally be able to prove), and in the hands of a sharp lawyer, Digi could make a case that might, might survive past anti-SLAPP or motions to dismiss, maybe, depending on the judge and how competent or incompetent Tom's lawyer was.

That's a lot of ifs though, and a lot of money neither party possessed.

The reality is Tom could easily have dropped the mic, flipped the bird, strutted off stage left, and Digi wouldn't have the dosh to sue him.

Speaking of Twitter, Conrad's Twitter page is a horrific mess for anyone curious about his ongoing work; 90% of it is just retweets of moe shit, the rest being his rest stop reviews he grabs from his Tiktok and self-absorbed tweets of his that show zero self-awareness. He at least, however, pins a selection of what he considers the best of his Substack articles as the pinned tweet.

Twitter, along with stanning The Dick Show (not only to become himself a member of Dick's wack pack but also befriending his bullshit "executive producer"), has been completely detrimental to Conrad's online career. 2020 had him posting conspiracy theories, 2021 is now him indulging in being a girl, retweeting moe artwork of girls. Even before that, he was always tweeting shit that only led to more burnt bridges and his already damaged reputation being further tarnished.

Twitter should be an excellent way for audiences to reach their favourite creators but not only is it a cesspit ideologically, it is, more importantly, impractical in finding anything unique from the creator, especially when navigating through masses of retweets. Unless there is an already a solution, I wish there was a way to only see tweets composed by the author themselves.
