If Kelly does start peeling herself elsewhere, or molest her stumps, would she be more at risk of a fatal infection? She’s lasted for years until now but I’m guessing having two legs lopped off would put the body into some kind of shock and make her more vulnerable.

I’m wondering how her care team will manage her post-op care. Is there some weird dynamic where everyone knows she’s a picker but nobody mentions it? Or would the medical team have to tell her explicitly ‘no fucking picking’ or dope her up to the eyeballs? I cannot imagine a double amputation would stop her behaviour, it’s a compulsion surely. How likely would phantom limb syndrome be, keeping the urges to pick going? Any medfags able to shed some light?

When she first got her skin grafts, she was kept as an inpatient as they healed and they turned out perfect. When she went home, she started picking again and we see how that turned out. I'd imagine she'll be kept in hospital for some time, if for no other reason than a double amputation is a major surgery, and the wounds will probably be okay as long as she's getting that steady stream of attention from doctors and nurses. It's when she goes home and the attention dries up that's the problem, when that happens she'll need to up the stakes again.

I mean... if she wants to beat the munchie high score, she could always just off herself.

Jaquie already muched herself to death by a combination of prescription opiate addiction and multiple unnecessary surgeries. Kelly isn't even the first to munch a limb off, someone else in the general MbI thread had her hand partially amputated recently.

I literally spent 2 hours reading through this thread to get to this point, and to be honest, I mostly just wanted to know if her cat was okay, since she had poisoned it and did god knows what else to the poor creature.

Very glad I didn't open 98% of the spoilers in this thread because the descriptions are horrendous and have given me nausea from just reading them. Can't stand people like this. What's especially sad (and aggravating) is that you just know after this amputation, she'll start this shit again, and most likely on the stumps. Some are hoping she'll finally learn from this, but I wouldn't hold my breath. At this point, it would be more humane just to have her either sedated 24/7 in a mental ward or euthanized (it's completely astounding to even use that word in this context, but fuck, there really is no other option otherwise).

With that said, thank you to all the folks with vast medical knowledge and personal stories who posted in this thread; they were informative and fascinating. It really is amazing and terrifying what the human body can live through.

she could still croak. according to her docs she's septic, it takes hard work to fix that and just the amputation won't deal with it.

Would Kelly even have the upper leg muscle strength required to be able to use prosthetics (provided she lets the stumps heal adequately to even get them fitted). I think it's going to take a LOT of rehab to get her to that point.

My prediction is that she is going to heavily identify with being a wheelchair user, and neglect her pressure care to the point of developing pressure ulcers on her hips/buttock/sacrum. And then we'll start a cycle of infection and debridement all over again, all the while calling out "Bechets!" to the void as it closes in on her.

I've avoided Kelly's thread since early on cause it really bums me out but this update has left me really angry. This woman has been utterly failed by her doctors and should have been institutionalised well before this point. The docs themselves have noted the shit in the wounds so you either have a patient who is carrying out extreme self harm OR at the very least one with a demonstrated incapacity to care for basic hygiene around the wounds. Letting it get this far is shocking tbh.

Just chiming in to remind people that Kelly is not a compulsive picker, her compulsion is old-school munching. Picking at her legs just happened to succeed where other stuff failed, so she kept doing that, but before this she spent a while just throwing stuff at the wall to see what stuck until someone told her the sores she had in her thighs looked like Behçet's Syndrome or whatever and she decided that would be her grift.
