As for selling 50-100 issues. Looking at Batman numbers that looks like a given? Quick google search says that there are around 2000 comic book shops in USA and Batman usually sells around 100k mark if its not King doing fuck knows what. Obviously not every shop is even selling DC comics, so yeah, I'd think there should be a good number of comic shops selling more than 50 Batman comics every month it is released. And its not like Batman is #1 book every month.

Yeah, Batman is arguably the most popular comic character worldwide. His sales should be good, especially at any point after 1989 when the movie broke the bank on ticket sales and secured his place at the top of the heap.

It's interesting to see on the sales chart from 1984 that the top selling Batman title was Batman and the Outsiders, just barely inside the top 30 with an average of 40 copies sold per store, while Detective Comics and his solo series came in at #59 and #60 respectively, selling about 20 copies per store. Just goes to show how the character's popularity was driven largely by his presence in other media. If Batman had those sales now, it would be a total disaster.

Looking at that list, even the bottom of the top 20 books are selling 50 copies a store. Crazy.

It hadn't registered what a critical situation Zack is in, regarding the fulfilment of multiple projects, including two that are very late for completely avoidable reasons:

His main problem is biting off more than he can chew by launching new crowd-funders before resolving those that are still in the wind. This is exacerbated by him constantly changing tack when it comes to his strategy for putting the books and their associated perks into the hands of his customers.

Recently he's taken steps to get on top of things, by shutting himself away indoors until he developed cabin fever, Dealing with the backlog is going to take him deep into 2021 and that's assuming that he can resist the temptation to start any of the new projects he periodically mentions in his videos. At the moment he is burning goodwill at the same rate that Ethan burns through pies.

Paying a premium fortune for utter detritus like this to own the libs is increasingly appearing to be what Comicsgate really boils down to.

Get to brass tacks. Richard C. Meyer is a cunt. He is a batshit, loony cunt who in my own regard is a hair’s breadth away from being classified as a massive fucking fraud, only just remaining on the right side of ‘confused and naive grifter’.

He is probably best described as the David Koresh of indie comics; somehow his poundshop Jeff Goldblum witterings have elevated him to some mythical oracle, whereas in reality he just doesn’t have a fucking clue what he’s doing. Numerous people have ploughed money into this overhyped cult of personality, only to slowly see that this man is incapable on almost every level. Dong’s little spreadsheet neatly shows just how utterly out of his depth YBZ is.

I’ll give odds of 4-1 on that YBZ has a complete mental breakdown before he properly completes any fulfilment. I truly feel sorry for his backers and I think Ethan’s endless deifying of him over the years is a very large part of this bullshit situation which people who ordered YBZ’s comics find themselves in.

He’s plummeted spectacularly from my first impressions and YBZ is quickly becoming the very worst of what Comicsgate/associates represent.

The Captain Marvel thing isn't great. I understand Zack's problems with it. I get it, really.

But you know good and goddamn well that if Narwhal had drawn that CM story and colored it like that, Zack's video would have been a full hour of ADHD ranting about Marvel scraping the bottom of the barrel and insulting customers by giving them art that looks like Lisa Frank got Parkinson's. He'd end it by setting the book on fire and possibly burning his eyebrows off in a rage.

When Frog was pimping Narwhal's Foreign Agent book a while back, I remember thinking that it seemed like some weird experiment, as if someone that was a decently talented artist tried drawing with the other hand for an entire book. There was an odd "comic within a comic" setup that was honestly sort of intriguing. His work had a kinetic energy like animation but it just wasn't rendered properly for comics as far as I was concerned. In my estimation, it was just plain ugly. I was interested in seeing what he would pull off as he got better. Turns out he managed to make his work even uglier. Anyone that can defend selling this for $25 as a professional comic book in 2021 is either a full fledged retard or the most brazen shill in history.

It'll be interesting to see what people say about 499 once it gets out. I have a feeling there will be a sizable backlash from people who gave Zack the benefit of the doubt for this long. His next projects will probably suffer greatly because of what he's chosen to do for the past year.

I'm well aware that some fanzines have quality, but most of them didn't. It's part of the reason they died out as a medium, alongside the rise of the net.

It's just rich that Richard is willing to back that. Combine that with his "I'm too good to commit to what I promise" and I'm done with his bullshit. He's turning into the next Mitch with that bullshit.

I don't accept that sanctimonious horseshit from more talented people than him, so he's done as far as I give a shit.

We had a long conversation today about this, and it was a bit like that scene from IMAGINE where Al Capp confronts John and Yoko at the Bed In For Peace. I'm telling him he should be more commercial, he's telling me he wants to make comics that matter. It might seem weird, but it isn't cynical. He actually means it, and is trying to do and say something important with a comic book. He believes he's making art.

‘Believing’ he is creating art is not the customer service you’ve been touting for x years. Funding comics were supposed to be about giving disillusioned fans a viable comic alternative; not indulging experimental concepts which look like arse and sell for a premium.

Best guess - your allegiance to Zack is all that is stopping you admitting how abysmal this looks. That’s fine, but ‘seeing what happens’ is beyond optimistic.
