I'm honestly shocked it took this long. She only got amputated because the legs ended up going septic, right? And that's after years of leg rot. It took that long for sepsis to set in. Her immune system must be among the greatest of all time.

Nah she's a cutter and now that her legs have rotted away and need to be amputated she's going to start on her arms. You need to treat the underlying psychosis for people like this.

It's not like somebody who feels their legs don't belong to them so they deliberately destroy them so that the doctors will have no choice but to cut them off. She's suffering from some psychological problems and it's manifesting as her hacking her legs apart. Hopefully with this she'll be put into therapy along with rehab but chances are she's going to insist on being set free from the hospital and nothing can really be done to prevent that.

Yeah I didn't so much mean she wanted to be an amputee, more so that she knew that losing her legs would get her huge amounts of attention. I'm also fully in the belief that she's only gunna start on her arms or whats left of her legs after she's outta the hospital.

She really does make a strong case for therapeutic lobotomy, which goes to show how truly fucked up and hopeless she is.. because that a nearly impossible argument to make.

Picking is also known as excoriation disorder (formerly dermatillomania), which people who are not necessarily autistic or stupid or even munchies can develop. It's almost the same thing as trichotillomania (compulsively pulling out hair leading to baldness), which is something that Shoe0nHead does. I knew a girl in middle school who wasn't stupid, but disgustingly started picking at her arm skin publicly out of nowhere for months and had huge purple rashy pockmarks on her upper arms. She managed to get reigned in when they got infected and she had to go to the doctor. They healed up and she didn't do it again. I don't know what triggered the behavior for her.

A big part of skin picking is feelings of shame. It's not in the best interests of the skin picker to show off what they have done as they don't want anyone commenting on it or preventing them from continuing. The story you mention is a bit unusual that she would do it so openly at school but probably she wasn't able to do it at home or was just so stressed that she could not stop at all.

The picker gets more stressed when they can't pick but also after picking when they realize what they have done. The only thing that lowers the stress is picking more so they will not do anything that could jeopardize their chances of picking. If you do see someone showing what they have picked it's because they want some accountability to help them to stop.

Seeing Kelly post so many pictures of the scabs on her legs and her smiling in the hospital just does not match up with skin picking disorder imo. Making videos of her picking out bits of her body doesn't match either as the skin picker goes into a bit of a trance when it happens and all they can focus on is picking when clearly Kelly's priority during those moments is creating content for attention.

Additionally, a skin picker doesn't want to be known as someone with a problem or disease as that leads to more shame. They might claim to have something else if someone sees the scabs but they aren't going to post on social media about it to people who have no idea.

I would have thought there were systems in place to identify and catch things like this. I know there's at least some type of process in identifying if a patient is actually just trying to score some scripts. Are there really no red flag lists or something like that taught to doctors?

this is the issue. screening for munch is not easy, you don't want to write off someone who's got a stroke, cancer, etc.

MbP, there are now more guidelines and red flags used. we've got checklists. This is because while it's hard to judge subjective symptom reporting it's easier to see signs of abuse and medical signs that the illness is from an external source.

i find it so suspicious that the picking started pretty soon after she had to stop bloodletting and her attention on here dried up - this thread died for like a year and then she started posting pics of her legs and started interacting with this thread again as soon as people posted about it.

she's a munchie through and through - perhaps it also has to do with her mental health and self harming but she truly thrives off the attention.

I'm kinda fascinated to find out if she keeps picking after the amputation because I dont think she has dermotillomania (sp?) and i wonder if the amputation will get her enough attention and asspats for quite a while. I also wonder if she'll magically gain a new diagnoses and s00per speshul illness in a year or so.

She's a black hole. There isn't enough attention in the world.

The epidural makes sense at least. They're making a mistake letting her post at all, and planning to let her inspect those healing incisions.

Countdown to “my stumps just aren’t healing, the doctors can’t figure it out.”

Her current main doctor is fully aware of her history, of her Munchausen's, and knows she is non-compliant. The posts I've seen imply that he's very well aware that these stumps have a low probability of healing without interference, the interesting thing, going forward, is whether she decides to skip and find a new doctor to try to bamboozle.
