Diseased #Comicsgate - The Culture Wars Hit The Funny Books!

It's been suggested that comic writers have no fucking clue what to do when given a married couple to work with.

Which is weird, because I know some of them are married.

And while many comic readers might not be married, I'm sure some of them aspire to be.
There is always Savage Dragon as a great example of long and happily married comic artist writing about a young married couple.
Read some of the issues from the last 5 years and you will realize what a blessing OMD was...

Has Liam heard of artificial light? He's always talking about running out of daylight. If only there was a way around this circadian cruelty... Just set up a floodlight or get a headlamp, dummy.
@FROG had great commentary on the new TREEHOUSE BUILD #7.

Any short version for those who really don't want to read Savage Dragon?

This is all Kabuki Theater. HE is not building shit. Maybe somebody is, but not him. He ain't working in the day, much less the night.

And that's why artificial light is irrelevant.

News from the land of Tom "kill all muslims" King.

I legitimately get MATI that this guy wasn't killed back in his CIA days. Why are all his comics exactly the same? Why does anyone call him a writer?

Hey comicsgate I've got a free script for you.
Panel 1: guys face.
Panel 2: same face
Panel 3: same face.
Page 2 Panel 1: same face
Panel 2: same face.
Panel 3: same face but eating a dorito.

I actually thought about this last night. The shared universe of thousands of characters chugging along is a great concept, but how do you handle passing of the torch? In the case of Spiderman we could say that Peter retires at 30 to run off with MJ and live a happy life he unquestionably deserves and appoints Miles Morales as a successor, but would a guy like Peter be able to sit around and "do nothing" while some world threatening event is happening? Of course not, he's a hero.

We had this problem recently with Captain America and his time travel shenanigans in the MCU or Luke Skywalker living the milk titty life for 30 years. This is why in every single martial arts movie, or every time really, when a mentor shows up he inevitably dies to make room for the yungins. If for 70 years all character would end up killed or maimed to the point of unable to do the the job to make room for the next generation it would be pretty depressing. So you're stuck in rut.
The torch can be passed, but it has to be done very carefully.

YBZ makes video after video complaining about shitty sjw comics and how customers deserve better...while doing the exact same thing: his art is crap (hell it's even WORSE than wokist's art and yet he wants people to buy his ugly comics. He doesn't give a fuck about bad comics as long as he is the one who gets $$$), his writing is bad, he treats his customers like shit and thinks he can't do anything wrong.

What an arrogant pos. He does the same things he supposedly fights against.

Time for another Comicsgate News Update

FROM CREATORGO
The latest data out from CreatorGo has the total number of campaigns launched so far in CG2021 at 90, minus of course the failed campaigns listed below. LURE and ROKAN escaped the failure list by being funded to their necessary amounts and have been removed from the watchlist of our previous list. While Hexwood failed to fund and Wahid was taken down for some reasaon, there were also seven five new campaigns launched which shall be added to the watch list.

Previous Failures
The Current Plane Comic #1

Pillowman and Blanketboy Comic-- Second Chance!
KINETIC
Cross Comics coloring book
Melvin #1
Everlasting Survivors Volume 1 Graphic Novel
The Tome Of Reckoning
Chateau Obsidian #3
EVERMATTER: Conscript

The Oswald Chronicles: My Time With Clive 1-4
Zener: Master of the Mind Vol 1

Updated Failures
Wahid 2: Dawn of Evil (taken down)
Hexwood: Dust and Ashes

Campaigns to Watch
Wulfsbane- Issue 1

Skipt - Seeds of Power
Sinsationals
WRDR WPN #1
Ellie The Eliminator 3 in 1 Graphic Novel
Beardzzerker #1: BRZRKR parody comic
Columns of Creation Vol 1: Down to Earth

New Campaigns to Watch
Rammur 1
Vestri 3
Havoc 2
Angel's Awakening
Hybrids: The Killing Field Part 1 & 2

I always take time to click on these links and look at these campaigns to see what's out there and why there are so many projects that fail to fund. I used to think it was just failure to promote properly or maybe it was just the crowdfunded comics market being somewhat oversaturated. But no. The vast majority of them are just garbage.

Hexwood looks absolutely terrible and I can't understand for the life of me what made the creator of that book think people should or would pay $20 for it. In his last update, he says he wants to focus on building up his outreach and generating interest in his projects. That's all well and good, but it's not going to improve the way the book looks, even if the premise of the story is OK. Comics are visual. If the look doesn't grab you and make you want to spend $20, you're done.

I'm not trying to single Hexwood out, just commenting on it because it's the newest failure on the ever growing list of failures. There are plenty that are worthy of derision. Every time Smug posts these updates, I come back to the campaign for Everlasting Survivors for a nice laugh because not only is Jeff Hicks a subpar artist, the dialog is unintentionally hilarious:

Looking at the quarter bin in any comics shop will tell you that indie comics have never been about the greatest art or stories, but even during the 80s and 90s the books were priced comparably to mainstream books. If you're asking for $15-$20 for a floppy, you better raise the quality bar above the bullshit level of most of these things.

That's not to say there aren't some interesting looking books that failed to fund. Columns of Creation looked pretty good and Evermatter has a nice Bruce Timm like quality to it. Maybe those would have benefited from more promotion, who knows? In any case, almost all these books are total shit and it's no wonder they don't get funded.

So apparently Tom from Midnight's Edge, a lad who seems to be a decent bloke, is been cancelled by Mecharandom for the crime of saying that Anna that Star Wars girl isn't a kick arse artist. As someone who has backed Frog I do wonder why anyone would want to be associated with these drama queen clowns who endlessly embarrass him.

show review a very overdue book MONSTER M.D by Von Klaus, which previously featured in the top 25 overdue CG books.
Damn, it took 2 years for that book to come out.

That comic looks boring as fuck.

MechaRandom defends Anna "fixing" another artist's work because she's a "professional" and apparently a professional should be able to do that without criticism. Tom says a professional shouldn't do it anyway, just out of professional courtesy. This stirs up some drama as Tom says he and the WCBS crew have been distancing themselves from MechaRandom ever since she referred to Zack Snyder as "father of the year", which he thought was fucked up. He then leaves the stream and MechaRandom continues to run her mouth.

This is so stupid....

Anyone can analyze art. If Art is inalterable and immune from criticism than it is valueless. Mecha's point is dumb. Professional, not professional. Once you inject art into the public it takes on a life of its own growing beyond the creator.

While I'm happy to see the Fandom Rejects consume one another in Internet Autism, I can't believe what I'm listening to.

Edited after some research...

Hello. In the future, details are nice.

Thank you.

The channel in questions name is Midnight's Edge. It has a long ass history, but long story short, they get industry professionals who will come on their channel due to doing this pre modern era YouTube. Tom is a recent addition, more a producer for Andre, the boss, and Robb, a broadcaster.

Tom is a member of the Gary Beekler wing of the Fandom Rejects. Cuckish and insisting how not a hate group they are all the time using human beings as props and generally making anyone right of Joe Biden socially feel like shit. Tom likely jumped at the chance for a bisexual deviant woman as a purse puppy. Mecha posted a video of the DMs, which shows Tom ranting about how Mecha 'abuses Tom' and about how Midnight's Edge can't associate with 'that', I'm assuming edgy jokes. I imagine he still happily sits on livestreams with Cecil and Ethan who make similar, edgy jokes.

I understand Tom's real objection. Despite Zach Snyder being a massive pussy that dunked on them, Snyder Bronies will autistically defend their cult leader to the death. Right now, ME is milking their despair over Warner Bros rejecting their edge lord messiah.

Tom meanwhile has treated this as a joke, despite coming off poorly in the DMs, in my opinion. Mecha comes off no better. She sounds like a drama whore looking for attention.
