How does a city not become complete rubble after 130 rockets? What kind of tech do the Israelis have (or what kind of idiots does Hamas employ) to have so many rockets of the bunch miss a city? Maybe I'm ignorant but it's not a moving object. How do you miss?
This is an old post but it's worth addressing in more detail, because a lot of us have rather distorted view of what explosives do.
Explosives create a high pressure shockwave which can cause destruction, but like all things high pressure they will seek low pressure through the most convenient route. So you set a bomb in the middle of the street, chances are it will do far less damage than if you placed that exact bomb in a building on the side of the street, as in the middle of the street that shockwave has a lot of places to go with zero resistance before it encounters resistance of any kind, minimizing the energy imparted to the resistance it eventually encounters, whereas in the building that pressure will be trying to escape through any and all weak points in the walls almost immediately. Hence why anti-personnel explosives have shrapnel and other added aspects to ensure lethality at greater ranges than the shockwave would otherwise dictate, and also why penetrating bombs and munitions are so much more effective at destroying hard(er) targets than simple contact fused munitions.
What I'm getting at is rockets landing in mostly random places won't necessarily do that much damage unless they have a warhead big and energetic enough to do real serious damage regardless of where it lands (think MOAB, that thing is going to flatten shit nearby regardless of "path of least resistance", but it is also gigantic). Also remember that a significant part of the rocket is the propellant to even get the munition from point A to point B, and these are not very large rockets.
The Russians used rockets to great effect in WW2 (prior to meaningful interception systems) but it's worth noting that they would use them as area bombardment with hundreds and thousands of rockets per barrage aimed at a relatively small area, and were intended primarily to damage and kill soft targets (german troops, light vehicles, temporary structures, etc.), whereas a couple hundred, especially if most of them get shot down, are not going to have a huge impact on a city block especially if the rockets are crudely designed.
Plenty to cause psychological impact, but actual damage will generally be minimal in the grand scheme of things.
235million USD buys a lot of rockets I guess.
