Battletech - Also known as Trannytech

Best Mercs are Crescent hawks. I don't even fucking care, them and the Blazing Ace's were what helped get me into BT and have so many hours sunk into replaying those games.

I do really like Snord's Irregulars but already mentioned.

ELH in my case. Yes, I know, the boring bland ones, but they were part of my first real introduction to the world of BattleTech, so I'll always have a soft spot for them and the balls-out madness of bringing tube arty to Huntress. I can't think of anything else so insultingly dezgra.

Well, maybe refusing a CJF batchall. But nothing else comes to mind.

That makes my Marik heart warm. This is why if you have a ton of space and no idea what to do with it, you can never go wrong with TAG.

I don't really have a favorite merc unit, although I like ELH's fetish for jump jets, but I do have a least favorite. Fucking Northwind Highlanders, the Powers that Be have the craziest fetish for all things Scottish. At least the Dragoons had a reason for having their bullshit and they got wrecked in the Jihad.

It certainly is a nice component to stuff into a unit's head, just to potentially soak up a crit. And with the TAG rules past 4th edition, using TAG is much more convenient - to a point where I would not be surprised to learn that it is kinda imba...

As luck would have it, I recently bought two Mobile Longtoms from a guy who had to shrink down his own collection... I guess there are worse color schemes to use on them than ELH olive drab. I think I'll have to put together a company of ELH units sooner or later anyway, but some arty might be a good starting point. They can serve as additional forces for any other faction I field, I am just wondering what would compliment those Long Toms nicely sort of as bodyguards?
I got some Bulldogs, but maybe a Demolisher would be nice to discourage anyone from getting too close to my arty.

Who the hell designed it, the British? It doesn't become a usable design until the Mark VI model. And yeah, the ELH are a weird little unit, given their emphasis on combined arms and conventional warfare even during the Succession Wars. Their unit CO post-Huntress, Edwin Amis, started off as a footslogger of all people. Considered it a personal point of pride to wear his Expert Infantryman's Badge into the cockpit of his Cyclops.

Yeah, and the Jaggies took it rather personally too. When they overran the artillery formations instead of pursuing the fleeing troops they... turned their lasers on the cannon barrels to melt them into slag. Kinda wasteful and dumb, but hey, Jaguars.

Also, I do like the Highlanders just because of how shamelessly, stereotypically Scottish they are. Yeah, its illogical as all hell, but a game about giant stompy deathrobots deserves a little light-hearted absurdity at times. Who else would flood Clan comm frequencies with fucking bagpipe music like they're facing down the English? (Yes, that too was Huntress. The Star League must have really, really had it out for the Jaguars if they're making them listen to Scotland the Brave on eternal repeat.)

Sure, but you don't need that many regiments and your own planet to be Scottish. They built a mech with a kilt even.

My new minis arrived in the mail today, the plastic models are really good.
A few very, very minor mold-lines aside, everything is great, nothing is bent or out of shape and the production value is quite good. I mean, quality is not on the level of GW miniatures, but neither is the pricetag, so it's all fine and dandy... Before buying, I looked at a couple photos and videos and having seen them now with my own eyes, I have to say, the images didn't really do justice to the quality when you look at them up close. A lot of nice little details that can be highlighted with smart use of paint and washes.

Sooo... guess I'll have to buy at least two more sets of each lance, cause you can never have enough Archers, Marauders, Warhammers and Riflemen... also that AGOAC-set looks really fucking sexy right now...

How do the kids these days say it, again?

pics or gtfo

To quote our president: c'mon, man. Give us some plastic to look at.

Fair enough.

With these images, you need to keep in mind that the miniatures are like 5cm in size (that's 2 inches for my Ameribros) and that small mold lines are exaggerated in these large photos.
Overall, the miniatures, armor plates and panels that are protruding from other surfaces have nice sharp edges - they aren't GW-sharp, but they are not as blunt as they look on most photos or in videos.

Archer:

You can see some mold lines, especially on the front of the missile-covers, but they are easy to get to, the only really bad one is on the right hand, gotta work careful when removing that.
In the left image, there's something on the left foot that looks like a very bad molding jet spot thingy (the hell are they called?), but it's actually just a spec of plastic that clung to the figure. You can see it's gone in the other image).

Marauder:

Nice panels/armor plates. I especially like the connectors between the upper legs and the hip. The arms have nice details that'll catch washes and highlight the shape very well, so do the legs and the rest of the body.

Rifleman:

The screw-head-shaped thingies are about a milimetre in size, so that's a really tiny detail and it's still crisp and clear.

Warhammer:

Aside from being one sexy beast, there's a lot of fine lines and details all over this mech.
I think, the edges are best seen in these two images: they are slightly rounded, but not much.
They are sharp enough for nice highlighting.

I'm definitely digging the Archer and the Warhammer. Something about the posing on these models means business to me.

Camospecs did a detailed video on the two lances, comparing them to older miniatures and goes a little into the option of reposing mechs.

I think the way the plastic catches the light, it makes the miniatures look worse on camera. Molding lines are exaggerated by light reflections, edges look sort of "buttery".

So has anyone been playing RogueTech with the Word of Blake now in it? Got to say, I fucking hate going against them. I know RT is harder, that's not the problem. It's the lance sizes. Average lance for them that I've come across has been 6 units. One mission I took against them had me go against three 6 unit lances and I rage quit the mission.

that's because Wobbies cribbed ComStar's unit organization which (for a Level II I think it's called) is 6 mechs or equivalent.

And boy were the Clanners unhappy when they found that out in Tukayyid. That uppity telecom company has larger units than their own Stars!

Never did a mission against ComStar, so I didn't know that. Still sucks that I'm trying to farm Marik rep and they're everywhere within FWL space despite me not being near systems bordering WoB planets. I know WoB came out in force around the FWL in lore, but in game, they're mostly fucking up the the Capellans now that they wiped out the Taurians
