Plagued Consoomers / Consoomer Culture - Because if it has a recogniseable brand on it, I’d buy it!

Not sure how mundane ones life has to be that getting one specific companies expensive flavored caffine is such an exciting experience. And combine that with the excitement of getting plastic cups... and wasting a ton of time to do so as well. I've seen cereal boxes that had this incredible merchandise in them. Of all companies how did starbucks get as big as it did, and especially this idiotic fandom.

Zoomers by and large don't care about "problematic" artists, they revel in retarded nihilistic irony culture. The Twittertards who lead the charge to cancel people are largely millennials, more specifically young-mid millennials with the older zooms making up a decent chunk too. Zoomers barely care about rock music in general, if a mob is trying to ruin [pop-punk band #201] it's because they're in the age bracket that gives a damn about pop punk i.e. people who grew up in the late 90s/2000s i.e. younger millennials.
Genre also plays a role. It takes a lot more to get a rapper cancelled than a rock, pop, or R&B singer.

Re: "Starbies", if I wanted to consoom colorful caffeine, I'd just drink a Monster.

The kind of money people will piss away on games they have no intention of playing or reselling just for the sake of completionism is astounding.
Hundreds of dollars at a time sometimes on the same game just on different consoles.

:(
I don't drink coffee so I don't go to Starbucks, didn't realize they sold what's essentially fancy fruit punch.
Same. I'm glad I never got in to drinking coffee cause it just seems like an extra tax people pay every day. I find the people who always brag about how they have to have coffee otherwise they go psycho very off putting.

I love caffeine and rely on it to get through a long day, but I don't give a fuck what brand it is as long as it tastes good. And there is a lot that tastes good, granted. What I really don't get is why you'd obsess over Starbucks if you like coffee, it's like obsessing over Miller because it's slightly more highbrow than Budweiser or Busch. A lot of coffeefags in places like Seattle hate Starbucks because it's commercial swill.

Managed to convince people a dessert beverage is a suitable drink throughout the day. Had a friend that worked there, not uncommon to see the same people come in multiple times, daily getting 5-10 pumps of syrup in their sugar mill drink.

If you are too lazy to make it at home, a 24 ounce gas station coffee is like $1.50. Or free with most loyalty apps. Or free if you just pour it and leave without paying since no one working there gives a fuck. If you require the convenience of the drive-through, McDonalds also sells large coffee for $1.50 and so does every other fast food place in the world. Paying for Starbucks if you're just getting regular coffee is pure showoff that you can afford to waste $.

I have a rule that I don't upgrade a phone the price gets down to 40 dollars or less. I still have a smart phone, but this prevents me from wasting money/being consoomer bleeding edge for no reason.

You know what also helps? Mostly ignoring the news, especially news cycles. Also making sure that you see no advertising (I have a TV but don't watch live TV to avoid it). I am blissfully ignorant of popular trends/"movements"/hot takes/plastic shit I NEED to buy.

Maybe something more for a meta-thread on avoiding consoomerism.
That is a good idea!

While r/Consoom and r/AntiConsumption are good places to start, I think there should be a thread on avoiding consoomerism I’ll make one now.

A good place to start:

EDIT: Its up!

One thing I want to say about this is that it's still okay to have hobbies and not become a consoomer. I have more than one thing that I've collect, but I never collect more than I can actually know that I own.

For instance, there are a lot of video game collectors who will buy every game for every system a complete set they call them even if they admit that they think a lot of the game suck. Don't buy bad games, bad movies, bad books. If you think it sucks don't own it. If you have so much that you don't remember what you own you have too much of it.

That alone will prevent a lot of the worst when it comes to collecting, though there are other ways to be a consoomer without being a collector such as the food ones.

My cousin is one of those Starbucks consoomers, literally downed a $50 dollar gift card my parents got her for her 21st birthday in a fucking day,

Starbucks consooming is quite literally more expensive than smoking a pack a day, and probably just as healthy for you in the long term, I think it annoys me more than Funko consooming, or the hoard-collectors because they nominally still have something at the end of the day. WIth Starbucks, it's gone in <1 hour, and there is nothing you get from it except fat and diabetes.

There are some 'food review' people on youtube that are like what you describe, they are really more fast food consoomers than reviewers. Anytime Burger King, McDonalds, Taco Bell, or whatever junk food shack releases something new there will be a food consoomer there to review it.

I exclude guys like reviewbrah because he seems to do any and all fast food items, and frequently dumps on the product with little sign of any brand loyalty.

It's not even the caffeine, it's the sugar. Apparently iced drinks are now more popular than actual coffee: The Rise Of The Appuccino: How TikTok Is Changing Starbucks (Archive)

I don't get bragging about it. Drinking coffee, and more broadly, consumption of any product in general, is not a personality trait. And I would know.

Starbucks really changed a few years ago and started selling all these sugary non-caffeinated drinks that are pretty much milkshakes but without ice cream. And it seems to be working for them, they have really nailed down a demographic of people who probably wouldn't regularly buy these drinks anywhere else but will try everything if it has the Starbucks logo.
"Secret Menu" stuff always seemed like a ploy to me as well, especially the ones that are so well known they might as well put it on the regular menu but don't because people apparently get excited about the SECRET menu.

One of my favorite types of cow material (not necessarily lolcows but more looky loo freakshow funny content) Is braindead bug people reviewing stupid food products and fast food. Like no one needs a review for your gas station convienience foods from your local area. Their "rating" systems range from "its good" to "4.75/5" and everything in between. The ratings are the funniest part of the video. "Food reviews" are the most low effort content on youtube right now so just about every tard with a smartphone thinks they are going to be the next Daym Drops or something.
