Trashfire The Great Mega64 Grooming Allegations Shitshow of 2021 - Psycho ex-girlfriends retroactively revoke their consent 5 years later and try to ruin their famous boyfriends' lives!

  • 🔧 At about Midnight EST I am going to completely fuck up the site trying to fix something.
@Esotericism You seem very keyed in, this is really off topic but do you know why Frank just seemed to disappear from the channel out of nowhere? I know that he wanted to get paid and that they couldn't afford it, but it seemed like it might have been more than that.

Also this is just a shot in the dark for anyone reading this but did Shawn actually cuck Derick? I've heard this mentioned a couple times throughout the years but it seems like the one story or rumor about mega64 that I've never been able to figure out.

It's best to think of Mega64 as two different entities. There's the mainline Mega64 that features Rocco, Derrick, Shawn and (usually) Garrett, and the Mega64 expanded universe where one or two of them will do their own thing. Examples include Garrett's PPP, Eric and Bryan's dead wrestling podcast, Derrick's Heartbreakers, etc. From my understanding, Frank just took a step back and works mostly on his own shit with Bryan now. Bryan does professional video editing, so I'm sure he's doing something along those lines. I'm not aware of any bad blood, but that isn't to say that it isn't real.

I've heard whispers of that as well and I'm 99% certain that it's bullshit. Derrick has too much of an ego to hang around Shawn if that actually happened. I like Derrick, but he wouldn't let that slide.

What is it with twitter 19 year olds and grooming accusations?
I didn't think we'd ever get anything sillier than Callmecarson getting fucked over for sexting a 17 year old when he was 19 but here we are. We should just raise the age of consent for women to 25 because apparently any time before that warrants a mental breakdown. I just cannot fucking wrap my head around why you'd ever do this. It was five years ago, give it a fucking break.

I'm not sure if Frank has ever specified what his teaching job was. His absense from the channel could entirely be him dealing with the taxing shit covid brought to that profession. By now he probably could have returned but still its worth considering.

I remember these rumors about Rocco popping up in the 'YouTubers on the verge of cowdom' thread and knew it was only a matter of time before she threw a shitfit. I'm just sad there's no podcast this week.

I wonder if this is gonna show up in Featured Content. This is just a re-run of the Game Grumps allegations that happened a month ago. There are more productive things you can do with your time instead of trying to get somebody cancelled for dumping an adult woman. Whatever happened to the innocent until proven guilty mentality?

Yeah I understand that, I know Frank has been streaming with Brian still and I was hoping there was no bad blood but I wasn't sure.

I can understand the position Frank was in, listening to this weeks 64antine was actually really depressing. Eric definitely wanted to stay with mega64 but he had to go with Rooster Teeth just to make a career move from Razer and Mega64 obviously couldn't compete with what they were offering.

There wasn't a podcast this week but thats only because they alreay had the dnd stream planned in place of it. I honestly respect the fact that they didn't cancel the stream and still coninued with it even as Curtdogg and his friends spammed the chat demaninding rocco come up with an official apology on the spot.

After the vinesauce story flopped hard with a feature, I don't think dear feeder @Null would bother since it's a capital N Nothingburger, followed by autistic theory crafting and absolutly zero funny and/or savage events.

wow, a thread I can actually contribute to.

I was a VERY hardcore M64 fan around the 2010 - 2014 era. I would tune into the podcast when it was live, catch their aftershow, then rewatch the edited version on Tuesday. I would watch all their personal channel videos, and etc and became very involved with M64 lore. I never found their "main" channel videos very funny, but the guys seemed to have a unique sense of humor. Anyway...

(warning, spergposting herein)

my memory of the original drama in 2015:
After the Ashley thing first broke in 2015, that surfaced some other weird conspiracies that I think other folks here have already cited- that Derrick has an illegitimate child, or other unsubstantiated stuff. From what I remember about the Rocco/Ashley drama, Rocco had been "dating" Ashley (in her mind, but not his) and then flew to Canada (or flew her from Canada?) to fuck that blonde girl (Charlotte?) who also claims to have fucked Sam Hyde. This pissed Ashley off, hence the drama. In fact, I remember another M64 minor character, Rachel, standing up for Ashley at the time. Rachel seems fairly cool, and went on to marry Kevin, yet another character in the M64 sphere. This is all so asinine, but I'll tell you that I have never liked Rocco and think he is a funny and semi-talented shithead. I also thought that Ashley was just lashing out because he played her, and it was bad decisions all around.

When Ashley's tumblr post was circulating, Rocco wasn't around for their next podcast, which may have just been incidental. On the podcast after next, though, he did a funny and ballsy thing of pretending like he was going to address it, and then not: https://youtu.be/uHY4aU97dDk?t=278

From what I see from Ashley now, and even JediFan or Curtdogg, it's all weird performative stuff where they smugly "expose" people and get brownie points for "finally breaking their silence" on stuff. I'm old now so I'm not an expert on any of that, but I can dive into old Mega64 history stuff still because it's been packed away in my brain for a while.

some context for how M64 operates:
Something really important to know about Mega64 is that they are a old, tight group that has done some innovative stuff here or there, or had contacts with big names in the video game industry. They have a "cult" appeal, in the sense of a cult movie- but they are also a cult. I am not 100% sure anymore because I don't watch them, but they always came across as very bitter that they weren't more successful. They also could not take criticism well, and would complain endlessly about fans saying negative things, and then cap it with "but we know that the true fans out there aren't saying stuff like that". This would reinforce the in group/out group mentality. They would milk the parasocial relationship of "hanging out with your friends" though the screen (Kevin, full-time member, was a fan once!). I was not, and am not, shocked that someone like Rocco would comb through fans to start relationships.

In fact, when I talk about people not taking criticism well, I mainly am talking about Rocco. There's an in-joke in Mega64 that Rocco is "main guy", and if you watch their podcast, they're probably halfway Rocco telling stories for the seventeenth time, engaging in Rocco-isms (touching his nose, "you know what I mean?", "and, y'know..."). He dominates things, and there was a period of the podcast where it was hard to watch, because he just talked while everyone sat silently and listened, then moved on.

Back to Ashley- their "personal channel" videos would often document their regular lives, and the rise and fall of certain relationships with people. You can even find one from 2010 where Rocco mentions Ashley in the description when she was, according to her, 15 or 16? (she misspeaks in the first video in the OP, I think she was 15 in 2009, not 2019). I'm not saying that Rocco can't have fans take pictures with him at Disneyland, but he's dedicating a personal video to a 16 year old. This also deflates his "statement" where he brushes that picture with her off as a random fan coming to say hi to him, and they weren't friends until years later:

Rocco's statement:
Second thing, because this is important - there is a photo of me at Disneyland with a 15 year old fan that’s being painted as evidence that I “groomed" this person. I want to be clear: I did not know this person when that photo was taken. I was there in my early 20’s, and she- a total stranger- flagged me down for a photo. It wasn’t until years later that we became friends.

I know there are personal channel videos where she appears, but I can't place them because they've taken so many videos down now for various reasons and my brain has moved on to more important things.

Some other random M64 tidbits that aren't necessarily meaningful to this drama but are worth mentioning, I can explain further if anyone's curious or I have time later:

  • Two of Shawn's kids are from a different father, though they do not look unlike him. This doesn't matter, but it's also some forgotten lore.
  • There was a charming video video called "Merry Christmas Kevin" where Eric, another character who now works for Rooster Teeth, says "faggot"
  • There's another video that was part of a Mega64 forum meme where "faggot" is thrown around, and that's been taken down I think
  • Before Mega64 launched their Patreon, but after they realized that "video games in real life" wasn't going to be viable for the future, they tried to do new regular series and called the effort the "Funny Factory". This failed miserably, and they rejected criticism of it until they could sweep it under the rug.
  • Mega64 podcasts were mirrored on archive.org for a while, but were taken down. They (Rocco) denied involvement in this, though their (his) tone was similar to "uhh, NO we did NOT take it down, and you're akshully pretty stupid for thinking so", even though they have historically been taking down things due to sensitivity to some content, hence the need for an archive
  • There was a podcast that Rocco did not appear for, and because Overbearing Dad wasn't present, it got "wild" and someone talked about Shawn's (one of the major characters here) wife growing a dick, and what he would do about it. They used the term "chicks with dicks" and Shawn's honest answer was totally reasonable- he would still love her and stuff, but they'd need to talk. The podcast has been taken down, and I do not know if it's been archived anyone reliably (I have a copy because it was a good podcast, and funny).
  • From the above, Rocco returned the next week pouting, then posted a long apology on the website about how he was silent because he was upset that trans people were hurt, blah blah blah, etc. He has since taken down the apology. I am frankly surprised that his statement about the Ashley thing is out there, I think that maybe shows that he is at least trying to change, but who knows. Maybe he'll take that down too!

Frank addressed this a little bit in one of his recentish streams. He describes it as being "let go", after directing their Flamewar Theatre series. He seems pretty nice about it, but it sounds like they didn't treat him right.

Good for her. She starts puking a ton in their 2013 Christmas Cast, which has been suspiciously scrubbed from their channel. There's a good archive here though, you can see her really start spewing at 1:11:11 - https://mega64.org/archives/main-shows/0284 12.24.13.mp4

Speaking of Christmas Cast, Ashley was at the 2014 cast as well. It's weird seeing all of this, especially names like JediFan and Curtdogg, considering they were big names in the M64 fanbase when I was around.

Actually hey quick question, just need to check, who in the absolute fuck is Mega64?

When was this shit even relevant?
Mega64 is a video game parody media studio founded by three friends in the mid-naughts. They were responsible for several viral videos, and at various times have been contracted by large video game studios to make advertisements and just fun promotional videos. In the beginning, they mostly made "on the street" videos where they'd prank random people in public, but with a video game theme. They expanded upon this by making short films on DVD with a plotline that puts the prank videos in some sort of context. Later on, Mega64 shifted from making prank videos, to short video game parodies. They are unique among many of their peers in that they've remained very small over the years, and have connections to many high up in the video game industry (eg Hideo Kojima, and have made videos starring Gabe Newell, Reggie Fils-Aime, Hideki Kamiya, etc). Their fame started to wane in the mid-2010s, but still produce a weekly podcast with the occasional hit video. They released this only two months ago.

There are three main crew members, from left to right.

- Rocco Botte (whom this thread is about): The de facto leader of Mega64, he's a perpetually fat Italian who shares somewhat of a leadership position in the brand. He's the face of Mega64, arguably. Loves anime, anime figures, and has made several short films hosted on his own personal channel.

- Derrick Acosta: The token Hispanic, I'd consider him the clown of the group. Always willing to make a joke at someone's expense, and the most caustic member. He's also the most "artistically inclined" member, he makes music videos and has arguably the personal portfolio with the highest quality. Over the years he's seemingly become jaded with Mega64, although he does try to hide it. I feel like he believes Mega64 is holding him back (this is all my opinion however).

-Shawn Chatfield: The dad. The actual dad. He's the only one of the boyz with an actual family life, having married into a relationship with a woman whom already had had two children, and had had more kid(s) with her as well. I'd consider him the straight man of the group, he's definitely the most out of touch with video games and anime. That being said, he's not really a boring guy, he can be hilarious.

-Garrett Hunter (not pictured): The fan favorite. Beloved by all, he's a str8edge white dude with dreads that entered into Mega64 later on. He's responsible for much of the behind the scenes work, and makes many of the costumes. He's also the funniest by a fucking mile. He's the last one of the group to go "woke", he still interacts with excommunicated talent such as Million Dollar Extreme.

It's a wonder how they're still around, but much of their income comes from selling merch and a patreon. They have a small, but highly devoted fanbase. A recipe for disaster in Year of Our Lord MMXXI.

Is this the video you're referencing?

Ok, now that we've gotten that out of the way we can tell people to fucking read the thread when they ask this question 20 times.

Ashley's run into her own little bit of trouble trying to smear Rocco.

This guy named CurtDogg spammed the chat of the Mega64 DnD stream demanding an answer from Rocco. Ashley and CurtDogg are apparently friends.

CurtDogg is a sex pest (not gonna say allegedly, because this dumbass was going around revelling in Rocco's accusations)

Having this dirty laundry aired out got him pissed and he started melting down in defense of himself.

Jules impulsively jumped to call him out, then deleted the post.

You could package the irony of this and bludgeon someone with it.
Once upon a time, Curtdogg was one of the handful of normal vidya gaems goons attempting to post in YCS, and like most non anime-addled tourists, was constantly shit-on and eventually ran out of the forum entirely because people couldn't handle horrible posts like "loli is bad" and "hiding on Mumble to talk about Rustle artwork makes you a pedophile", with LOL GBSTV being the smokescreen that eventually drove him out. While he wasn't wrong, it'd be hilarious if the internet white knight shtick was a smokescreen to be an awkward goon around web 3.0 girls. Note "awkward", because as these web 3.0 girls are aging, the bipolarity/borderline issues turn literally every awkward interaction into LITERALLY GROOMING/PREDATORY BEHAVIOR, it's to the point where "grooming" in 2021 means "ghosted whilst having a penis"

While there's no end to virgins trying whatever dumb shit sticks to the wall in order to find a girlfriend of some kind, this doesn't mean he's trying to rape you

Yeah it seems like we went from "dont stick your dick in crazy" to "don't acknowledge the existence of crazy, ignore and move on.", Lest you want to become the target of some boredom fueled witchhunt years later.
The cherry on top of the current situation being that the only "grooming" happening is that some far-lefty #BELIEAVEALLWOMXN spud is talking crazy chicks into believing they were sexually assaulted when they didnt get what they want from a random c-grade e-celebrity.
Although there is a silver lining here imo, since every instance of this clown-show playing out is further degrading the credibility of the next witchhuntress. In due time, the only response will be eye-rolling, if that isnt already the case for most normal people.
