This woman is so mentally ill that her legs have been chopped off, so I have no illusions that there will be the kind of "reality check" some of us would like to see. Still, it will be interesting to see what effect a 2 month stay has on Kelly. It occurs to me that the doctors have her in a strange spot- yeah, you can't just hold her there for being nuts, but you can recommend she stay if she isn't healing properly (in whatever form that takes). I wonder if that 2 months could bloat into a much longer stay.

Kelly, like all munchies, loves being in the hospital so I could see this going for a long, long time for any number of reasons. I can’t imagine there’s any psychiatric drugs they haven’t already tried, but maybe they have some fantasy of monitored compliance on them for two months making a difference.

It’s a real shame because it’s all so pointless. Kelly has demonstrated a insane commitment to self-harm, sabotaging all treatment and wasting any medical resources she can get her gory mitts on. Why continue to pour money, blood and time down the drain? She’s a crazy, miserable wretch and that will never change. It’s similar to prolonging the lives of hopeless tard babies. What’s the point?

Kelly is a terrible burden and stress on her own family. I can’t imagine what they’ve had to endure due to her behavior. I’m sure they would be sad if she died, but also very relieved. She’s like a giant albatross around the neck of her family, local hospitals and the Canadian healthcare system.

Long ago I thought maybe they might find a psych drug for her that stopped the extreme compulsive behaviors, but realized her crazy is so much deeper than even the extreme compulsive behaviors.

She’s truly one of those cases where assisted suicide for mental illness makes sense. It just does the job she’s doing far more neatly, cheaply and with far less collateral damage to other people and society. Kelly has just been slowly killing herself for a decade in the most expensive way possible while sucking all the time, resources and energy of those around like a true vampire.

The Canadian government is just spending millions to extend a batshit crazy woman’s pointless self-harm game.

This is infuriatingly unfair to think about if you've ever treated cancer patients. Many cancer patients die of infection/s that a normal immune system can easily brush off. Kind, decent people who desperately wanted to survive will die because of these seemingly minor pathogens. Entire families ripped apart because not even the strongest antibiotics are sufficient when an immune system is depleted.

Meanwhile, this bitch intentionally causes sepsis in herself and is (for now) totally fine.

Hospital staff all know who the frequent fliers are, those patients are brought up out of earshot of the public/hyper-offended, and the vast majority of clinical staff despise patients who behave like Kelly does.

There might be a bleeding heart med student who might take offence at overhearing the nastier things said about patients. Or you may have a particularly holier-than-thou nurse in an area. So you wait till they are out of earshot.

However, that does not change the standard of care or the treatment that the patient needs to receive.

Part of the dark humour of a hospital is making fun of people like Kelly for wasting the time and resources of the medical system. It's a coping mechanism.

Talking about the "Kelly's" of the hospital helps to "let off steam" so you can maintain your professionalism and composure when dealing with patients or their families.

In a similar vein I’ve noticed many crazy homeless people and junkies (IV drug users) sometimes have unstoppable immune systems and easily brush off infections that would kill or debilitate a normal person. I figure it’s sort of like the Indians that regularly bathe and drink from the Ganges River vs the western tourist who dips his feet in it once and dies a week later from infections.

After what they’ve exposed themselves to over years their immune system has been exposed to every pathogen known to man and just laughs when some little punk bacteria comes round.

Do we think Kelly gets more psychological satisfaction over physically harming herself, or from posting online and getting asspats about it?

Plenty of munchies diagnose themselves with invisible or easily faked disorders (that ehlers-danlos thing seems to be really popular nowadays), and while some munchies inflict serious physical harm on themselves, this Coldness In My Heart level of fuckery seems to imply that Kelly gets psychological reward from the pain.

So, which does she prefer? And would she be as dramatic in her level of self-harm if social media wasn't a thing?

I know time marches on and we make medical advances, shit changes, but I'm surprised she's allowed outside this soon after with very little dressing on the legs. Someone I knew years ago lost a leg and they were covered with a plaster cast for weeks, going outside before being fully healed was a big no-no. Looks like Kelly is just out there with some gauze and plastic wrap.

It looks like opsite/tegaderm. It should be fine. It might even be one of the super high tech dressings which monitors wound temperature. There's some pretty amazing stuff available for wound care these days.
