I don't find his analysis nuanced, and all of the background info can be had with a quick trek to Wikipedia.

Bobby is essentially saying that all that matter in Art, all that gives Arts is value, is sensual pleasure; if Transformers and MCU give you the adrenaline hit and untap your tear ducts, they should be regarded as Art. This stance can be criticized from at least two fronts. First, how one feels about a piece of "art" depends on one's cultural background. Fearless Girl had admirers because it was a cynical exploitation of the zeitgeist, when women were paranoid that Trump was going to grab their collective pussies. When time changes, so do people's feelings, yet we have an intuition that Art "stands the test of time", and that aesthetic values are by and large constant. Second, Bobby ignores the ethical aspect of Art. Fearless Girl is parasitic on Charging Bull, and worse, it changes the meaning of the Bull ; commentators have noted that Girl turned Bull into a bully, an antagonist, and the sculptor of Bull had expressed his displeasure. Is it ethical to twist the work of another artist to suit your ideology, especially in a time when wearing an Indian chief headdress is widely regarded as unethical? I don't think Bobby cares.

To be clear, I was amazed that he wasn't all SLAY KWEEN over "Fearless Girl," and that he was aware of its cynical, very corporate roots. Once he started using Death of the Author (something he usually despises, by the way) to justify his simpleton's adoration of a 35 year old toy commercial, I was off the train.

However, you're absolutely right that all the background that impressed me is easily gleaned from Wikipedia.

I argued with a person who wanted to abolish the electoral college a while back, they no joke said that since the cities have the largest portion of the population, then they should be allowed to decide what the rest of the country should do and that since the rural states had a smaller population, obviously the opinions of the people living there don't matter.

The people who want to nuke the electoral college are the same people who think the tyrannical system of government from the Hunger Games is to be idolized and made into a reality.
